Caller: My laptop won't start!!!
Me: I see that you're part of [outsourced company].
Caller: Yes?
Me: We can only assist with laptops that we issue.
Caller: I got it from you guys! And it won't boot Windows!!! It just sits at the [manufacturer logo that happens to be the same as ours] screen!
Me: OK, but I can't find any laptops that we gave to you in our inventory. Are you sure it's from us?
Caller: YES. I got it from YOU.
Me: Can you tell me the laptop name?
Caller: I don't know what that is.
Me: Do you see a sticker on it with our logo and a number?
Caller: No.
Me: I'm sorry, but you'll need to contact your company's IT or your supervisor for assistance.
Caller: THEY TOLD ME TO CALL *YOU*!!!!!!!!!!!
*hangs up*
Asked my boss if we ever gave out laptops to this group and was told no, but it might be worth checking with our department just in case. Contacted someone who would know and he confirmed it. He ended up calling her to tell her this and said she was initially very excited to hear from him, only to get colder and colder and speak in short sentences after being told it wasn't our equipment and we can't help.
