Have the DVDs for the movies back home, but I downloaded rips. Also the original OVA series. What I also found is the original TV series, which never got an English release. It's crap VHS quality, but watchable. And it's been fansubbed. Eat a dick, anime companies. You want to solve your problem? Bring shit out for decent prices. I'm also re-re-re-re-re-re-re-reading Adam Warren's take on the DP. Loved those comics.
Also it's way past time I watched ALL of Slayers, in honor of the new show. I only have seen some of the OVAs, the movie, the first TV series, and half of the second. And I barely remember any of it.

Are Guu Deluxe and Guu Finale available in the us?
pretty much everything beezy's watching except kurenai and code geass.
throw in slayers and slayers revolution in to the mix and random episodes of tenchi universe.
I'm rewatching all of Slayers
Maf let's have a Slayers thread
lulz the chess game from code geass
basically they show an overview of the game, and pieces seemingly teleport when they switch from scene to scene
and the character schneizel purposefully puts his king into check which is... not a legal move
he did it to piss lelouch off basically
that said, my subs didnt have such notes
hahahah wait, so they got mad? jesus, if there's clear intent behind the move whats wrong?
yeah /a/ is code geass central. There were a few Slayers threads at least.
i hate to sound selfish but god, some of the groups take a loooong time to fansub an episode.
then the game gets interrupted by some bitch with a knife:lol
iam watching the new code geass live from japan thanks to some stream
they have wierd fucking commercialsspoiler (click to show/hide)sayoko and jeremiah fight :o
edit: new opening and outro
also someone dies :(

Is Code Geass actually good? I always hear negative impressions of it, yet they still watch it.
To put a finer point on it, its the passive/aggressive fanservice I dont really wanna have to deal with. All the female characters seem to be put into situations that are there to titillate and I see people react on forums or whatever and it feels kinda dirty.

Nuh-uh!! Anime is the greatest thing ever invented! It has great animation is always really smart, but has plenty of action as well! Of course, something like anime could only come from Japan, which makes all kinds of awesome things that are better than anywhere else! *sigh* I wish I was Japanese...

Im gonna find time to watch metropolis this weekend, a great anime film, a treat for the eyes and ears.
The first two DVDs were released in volume 1. I never took the time to watch the entire series so its nice to grab it for so cheap on DVD. Bandai is pushing this series out FAST N HARD.
people keep talking about birdy but then junpei likes so i just don't know. i'll give it a shot.

So... Bones' new anime series Xamdou is a PSN exclusive, huh?
Takara Tomy displayed an exhibit at this week's Tokyo Toy Show that included a section about Casshern Sins, the tentatively titled remake of the Shinzo Ningen Casshan anime. The anime studio Madhouse had already revealed at the Tokyo International Anime Fair 2008 in March that it is working on the project; at the time, the project was just called Casshern. Tatsunoko Production, another anime company that recently became a subsidiary of Takara Tomy, created the original anime about a cyborg who rises against the robotic armies that have subjugated all of humanity. The new version will have director Shigeyasu Yamauchi (Saint Seiya, Boys Over Flowers, Dragon Ball Z movies), character designer Yoshihiko Umakoshi (Berserk, Mushi-Shi, Guyver: The Bioboosted Armor), and series script supervisor Yasuko Kobayashi (Claymore, Witchblade, Shakugan no Shana).
Streamline Pictures and ADV Films both released the 1993 Casshan: Robot Hunter animated video remake in North America, and Go Fish Pictures released Kazuaki Kiriya's 2004 live-action movie remake.
Most people seem to like the new series, but im not giving sony my money for a rental

Its ok so far, but I hate nia
I've been watching Oban: Star-Racer. It's an Euro-anime collaboration with the 2D animation and music done in Japan and the 3D animation done in France, I think. Usually that's a recipe for mediocrity, but it's surprisingly good. The series is about an intergalactic race, not unlike the one from The Phantom Menace, that will decide the fate of the universe.
The actual racing usually takes up less than half an episode, with the rest being used for character development and interaction and strange aliens/alien worlds. The 2D animation isn't really anything special, but it looks good enough. On the other hand, the 3D animation works really well in the series and definitely is the highlight in the respect. Overall, though, the series just looks good from an art stand point. The music is great too. The characters are all pretty well-rounded, although it does feature the prerequisite totally evil guy that is clearly bad for the sake of being bad.
Its ok so far, but I hate nia
i finished the second volume, and i really miss the MANLY COMBINING :'(

Gundam Seed is fun enough, i've definitely come around to it again. We could nitpick, but after watching a good portion of Z Gundam, which has some awful issues 'U SAID MY NAME GIRL NAME?! *stomps gundam* HOW U LIK ME NOW?!'
Seriously, wtf. Lets not pretend most Gundam shows are high art. The only series i've considered good that captured the long-running 'gundam theme' was 08th MS Team.
Seed Destiny is fun if you realize how absurd it is and watch it from that PoVToo bad you can't see Code Geass the same way.

It's really creepy knowing that Kou and Keith are skirmishing in the ruins of Sydney after a colony was dropped on it.Damn, never knew that.
The One Week War culminated in Operation British, supposedly named after the American Revolution against British rule in the 1770s. Operation British's goal was to destroy the Federation's central military command at Jaburo in South America, a facility hardened against nuclear assault. The plan called for the use of a recently depopulated colony cylinder. During the opening battles of the One Week War, Zeon troops launched a gas attack on Island Iffish, a colony in the Hatte province of Side 2, employing a highly-toxic nerve gas known as GG, which was able to enter even into the gas shelters via the colony's ventilation system. (An upgraded version of this nerve gas, G3, was used in 0085 by the Titans to put down a rebellion in the 30 Bunch colony cluster of Side 1). The cleansing of the colony's entire population was accomplished within 20 minutes. After the gas attack had concluded, Zeon forces then prepared the colony by attaching it with nuclear propulsion engines, before initiating the second phase of Operation British.
The Federation's space forces mobilized as the Principality set the colony on a slingshot course around the moon. Intense battle raged above the Earth's orbits, but the Federation Forces was unable to stop the colony. As the colony passed the point-of-no-return, both sides withdrew from battle and emergency evacuation of Jaburo was ordered. However, the heavily damaged colony fell short of its intended target, instead shattering into large fragments due to the heat of re-entry over the Indian Ocean. The largest piece, comprising most of the main colony cylinder itself after being shot at while over the Arabian peninsula, fell on the heavily-populated city of Sydney, Australia, obliterating the city outright with its 10-million population. The strike caused a 60,000-megaton blast (or estimated to be 3 million times the power of the Hiroshima bomb) and created a 500-kilometer crater along Australia's coastline (later named the Sydney Crater). The immediate effect was of a Magnitude 9.5 earthquake at the impact point and Magnitude 9 earthquake over a third of Australia, a 200m/s shockwave being detected in Melbourne; it destroyed roughly 16% of the continent. The ensuing shockwave also led to massive tsunamis around the globe, incapacitating a large portion of Earth Federation's planetary defence systems, while also causing huge humanitarian crises.

Fascinating. However, new FMA series is nothing compared to a new Ippo series.Agreed. Ippo is one of the best animes ever.
BONES is doing the new FMA anime. Apparently it's going to follow the manga all the way through.
I want more Berserk too. :(
The anime diverged from the manga storyline fairly early on. I haven't read the manga, but I've heard it's vastly different.

it was fun while it lasted guys, time for emo sasuke to save the day lulz.
A bunch of distinguished effete fellow anime, that I'd rather not even mention. :-[
Black Lagoon was the last cool anime I watched, and I blew through both seasons in less than a week. I was going to watch G Gundam this week, but the place I ordered Collection I from is still backordered, so I'm stuck looking at the Collection II box.
And I'm still plugging away at Xam'd and Soul Eater.

Going to check out Michiko to Hacchin just because I haven't watched anime in years, and if it's similar to Cowboy Bebop, then I'm down.

I was thinking about watching some of that. Are you watching the new series or the original one?
The best part of Vampire Hunter D is when the doctor turns into a vampire, and he rips off that girl's crucifix, and then her boobie pops out.
Spoilers, I guess.
great rumbler did you ever get to watch the best anime ever? Kenshin: Trust and Betrayel? I didn't see your impressions of the best anime ever.

I watched it a little over a week ago. My opinion is this: It's an extremely well-made period drama, but I feel that it suffers a bit from overlong monologues and dialogues about the meaning of life and the purpose of life. I can appreciate it for what it does, and it certainly does what it does very well [which is basically to be a 50's-60's era samurai tail in animated form], but I think it's been a bit over-hyped. However, I also think this is something worth revisiting a year or two years down the road to see how a second viewing holds up.
The music in it was amazing, by the way.

The greatest anime...overhyped???
I dont' recall any "lessons about life" or anything except maybe in the last ep, and the bad guy is mainly talking about women being weak and how it's his job to protect the shogunate or some shit. The only monologues I don't like in the anime is when Kenshin is blind, deaf, delirious at the end. "Otsu. Should we go to Otsu?" wtf are you talking about, Kenshin? Also, a lot of the monologues should be taken with historical context. Like, for example, Katsura's thing about his master. If you look it up, apparently that's one of the reasons he started the Choshu clan rebellion in the first place. There's a lot to the anime that you'd otherwise wouldn't understand without knowing the historical context. Another big one is Shinsengumi and Okita.
SAC is amazingIt's the lightest tone of them all, by a large degree. The Major in the comic is vastly different from any of her anime representations.
movies suck
didn't know the manga was lighter in tone
:lol
I need to read this!
How many volumes are there and is it particularly long?
I've only seen bits and pieces of Fist. Where'd you get it, Rumbler?
I finished up Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex a week ago.
Have been working through Second Gig over the last week.
I think that I prefer the first season to the second, so far. 2nd Gig seems way darker and more serious than the first season. Sort of like the movies. Which I don't prefer. I like the lighter tone of the comic. But one big advantage to second gig is that it seems to remember that it is anime, and dudes get fucked up. Lots more blood and exploding body parts.
There's also some nudity :-*

The backstory on Saito is so worth going through it though (or one could just skip to it). The whole refugee drama sort of bogged everything down, I didn't really care for either viewpoint, I just wanted more techno jargon.
I saw that and was disappointed. =/
AP Police OVA. It came out in 1990, so it basically takes the sum total of the 1980's and packs it into three 30-minute episodes.

One of the episodes is even inspired by Robocop!
Armored trooper votoms - 15 episodes out of 50 watched so far, and it's pretty awesome, main character = bad ass, and i love the setting of the second arc it reminds me of 8th ms team. :o

More people should watch Votoms. It's a great 80's mecha show, much more hard nosed than a lot of the material that came out during that time. The PS2 game that Yuke's released in 2007 is brilliant, too.
I just finished Michiko & Hatchin. I really liked it, nice ending. Same here, although more so than previous series of the same type, the ending really made most of the episodes in-between the first and last episodes feel like they never mattered. But it was always a show about the developing relationship between the two title characters and the journey itself, not the ending.spoiler (click to show/hide)Hiroshi was a real dickhead. I wish he'd gotten what was coming to him instead of basically getting away scott-free. Also they never did explain who Hatchin's mother was. No way it was Michiko...right? :lol[close]

Looks like I'm the only one here who doesn't like the sub only release. Otherwise I would've been more tempted to collect the anime adaptation of the original Princess Resurrection manga, if it came with a quality and proper localization of both English sub and dub. I mean originality is a good quality to have simply due to its rarity, but right now the Sentai Filmworks licensed R1 anime DVD of Princess Resurrection from ADV isn't a quality production worthy of my contribution. However, it is a mockery to what could have been otherwise an enjoyable anime adaptation by Madhouse Studio.
But through the process of licensing the anime by Sentai Filmworks, Madhouse Studio as the copyright holder of the Princess Resurrection anime should had full executive decision on the R1 anime post production. So when I deemed the finished product of Princess Resurrection anime turned out to be a mockery with the approval from the original creators, needless to say I'm offended by that licensing decision made by Madhouse Studio, Sentai Filmworks, and ADV.
At least I can still look forward to what could possibly be an enjoyable English voice acting, if nothing else. And since the anime series was aimed to be broadcast on TV network and not direct, straight-to-home video release, just what kind of explicit content you think that can be allowed on Japanese national TV network is beyond me.
That can still be the executive decision made by the original manga licensee, the Japanese medias publisher of the Princess Resurrection manga Kodansha. Madhouse Studio may have the copyright of the anime series, but why should the animated TV advertisement paid by the manga licensee, to outdone the original manga work owned by them? This is a case of the position of power within corporate ownership, pure and simple.
Cool. It's for the wife so subs don't matter. I don't suppose you know of a good place to download or stream Japanese TV shows, do you? Not dramas, but variety shows and the like.
Watched Queen's Blade (subs were not so hot); pretty much you'd expect...fantasy adventure, except everybody is female and they show tits n ass every chance they get. The last part of the first episode is lol-worthy.

It's nice that Funimation has decided to put up a free and legal sub of the new FMA three days after it airs in Japan.
Basara seems to be sticking to the games pretty damn closely. Don't know if that's good or bad yet!

Plot Summary: The story of a young woman fighting for her survival in a real "urban jungle." Only 18 years old, Kuniko Hojo finds herself at the heart of the battle for humanity's future when she discovers that the government which rules Atlas intends to continue marginalising the less-privileged masses outside the tower - by force, if necessary.

An Italian Gundam blog is reporting that Yoshiyuki Tomino announced a Gundam Unicorn film for release in 2010 while at a conference there this week. Sure hope this isn't a hoax.Meh i'd be dissapointed anyway if it's just a movie, a trilogy of movies would be awesome though.
I will watch the "remastered" Dragonball Z show coming out. It's supposed to be cutting the length of the episodes down to make things go faster, voice actors are re-doing their lines, and they are making it 16:9. This is from the original studio, not Funimation BTW. I assume it will be fansubbed pretty quickly.
And for the perv in me, I will check out Queen's Blade.

Shangri la EP 5 had some budget. Nobody watching animu no more?

Will continue FMA, Sengoku Basara and update my One piece eps
I tried watching another episode of K-on since people on gaf talk about it on every page of their thread. I managed to get past the OP without suicide, skipped through most of the episode watching 20 seconds to see if there was anything watchable, got to the ending and promised myself I wouldn't ever try that again. On the plus side it's slightly more watchable than Lucky Star. Swine flu is a still a better choice than both.yeah its the bad loli/moe/otaku show of the season that gets more attention then it deserves, pretty much a standard now

Yeah I've heard the manga is so much better. Trigun is one of the most overhyped animes I've ever had the "pleasure" to watch.
Are the main characters not as vapid as they are in the anime? The only characters I like in the anime are Wolfwood, Knives, and...that's it.
The linebacker chick the worst character still?

Since I have nothing else to watch, I might try to start Zeta Gundam, Planetes, and Cromartie High School. I've had them on my HD for months now.
The problem with Zeta is just that Camille is a bitch until around ep30+
By the end he's pretty cool though. Apparently watching people die in horrible explosions makes you grow up.
CCA is awesome. Mech fights so good that it negates whatever problems you had with the story. Probably my favorite Gundam movie for the mostly mindless combat and mech designs. Sazabi :drool Nu Gundam :rock
Most probably wouldn't agree with how I feel about Gundam. Gundam 0080 is my favorite Gundam series by-far, and I didn't think 08th MS Team was as great as others.
And planetes is awesome and totally not overrated because I rarely see it rated period. The only time the series got a bit lame was when they tried to go dark and depressing later on, bu it was still great. If they did an FMA2 like series that covered the manga story instead, that would be even better. The manga is a lot more lighthearted than the anime was, and many events are different; specifically, the manga continues a bit after the anime finished. I guess the enjoyment of the series would change if you weren't big into space stuff. The series is fairly realistic compared to most anime dealing with space.
Gundam 0080 is one of my favorites. 0079 and 08th MS and Turn A are the kings though.
I don't like mindless Gundam. I'm all about the story.

I've decided to rewatch/marathon some non-Gundam 80's mecha this summer.
1. Armored Trooper Votoms
2. Super Dimenstional Fortress Macross
3. Aura Battler Dunbine
Starting with Votoms tonight.
It's a damn shame not much ever got licensed for North America, or I'd buy it.

Hey Viz, which sub group do I want to go with for Geass S2? I went with gg for season one.
EDIT: Whoops, gg did S2 too!
both are good groups
GG is probably less "serious" though, i remember they put a joke into one of their karaoke (rainbow text) and I think they might have the odd translation note here and there
have you finished watching S1 yet?

I totally forgot about Patlabor. I've only got the original OVAs and movies, though.
for season one, avoid tv rips like gg, they are 4:3.
go for dvd rips like exiled destiny or blu ray (thora).
I never got around to watching the second season of Code Geass. Does S2 ever live up to the awesomeness of the S1 finale? That was hilarious, that made the whole show. :lol
Dude, don't be such a geass.:lol
Not a damn thing from that list. I'm all over Gundam Unicorn whenever that airs, and whatever it ends up being (TV, OVA, movie)...
I see six shows I wanna watch already.

Season 2 is not nearly as horrible as everyone was making it out to be. I've only watched through episode 14, though.
I love how Tohru Furuya, the original Gundam good guy, is now the voice of evil in the latest Gundam series.
The reason a lot of people think season 2 sucks is because the first season.
Also, where is Black Lagoon 3?
if anyone still cares about Naruto, Kakashi's Gaiden is/has finally aired. The episode preview made it seem like they're doing it right by not outsourcing animation to Korea.
The reason a lot of people think season 2 sucks is because the first season.
It throws everything that was good about season 1 out the window.
All done with OO S2, I have no idea why I waited so long. I honestly enjoyed it. BRING ON THE NORTH AMERICAN BLU-RAYS, BANDAI!!!
As for the movie, what are the rumors/speculation concerning the upcoming dialogues and Jupiter? Aliens? Paptimus Scirocco? :lol
See? even Distant agrees.

I actually watched an episode of an anime for the first time in forever tonight. Some Monte Cristo adaptation that is on 360/Netflix. It was strikingly close to the source material (one ep in anyway), minus the fact that it um, takes place in space.

Not sure if want.
Hellsing VI was pretty good again (V was kinda in-betweener nothingness, while IV was one of the top20 eps of anime). I'm kinda surprised how well the sub-cast is able to hold the show together, but damn I can't wait for Alucard to come back and fuck shit up!
Looks great. It's really rare to see detailed character art like that since the move to digital.

Just marathoned Berserk animu (first time) and quite honestly, that ending made me laugh out loud.
total gonzo ending.
I've been reading some parts of the manga and I've found it much worse than the anime.
anime version is superior except for the rushed ending which would have been better if they made a sequel after a year or two.

Apparently there is a sequel coming sometime soon.

That's the kind of thing that happens when you let the anime writers come up with their own ending. It rarely turns out well. See also: Hellsing.

Wait, what? Berserk anime has an ending? I thought it just stops at the climax of the god hand event.
the manga gets better after it continues from where the anime leftNo shit. Anyone who thinks the anime is better is an idiot.
A second manga, illustrated by Yuji Iwahara, the original character designer for the anime, is currently being serialized in Square Enix's Young Gangan seinen magazine under the title Darker than Black: Shikkoku no Hana. This is a separate one from the first and it is a new story taking place one year after the events of the anime.

This is amazing. I normally don't like CG anime, but ROBOT is incredible. Their CG people look good and their animation and attention to detail rocks. Plus Tomino is the best person ever when it comes to Gundam.
Is that all there is? Is it like a teaser for an upcoming book/manga/???

Fall 2009 makes me hate anime
code geass season 1 is awesome, only episodes i didn't like are mao's and like you mentioned, fanservice episodes/school shit.
season 2 though is garbage, entertaining but still garbage.
also, watch darker than black.
Wise from your gwave!
Code Gease - I've had the first two parts for a few months now, back when Best Buy had a bunch of anime at 50% off. First 9 episodes are totally awesome, can't believe I didn't the gstart this sooner. Some of the fanservice and highschool hijinks come off as totally out of place, but that seems to be pretty intermittent so far. Everything else is just really cool, I'd say this is easily one of my favorite shows from the past few years.
R.O.D. The TV - A friend of mine has been going on for a long time about how this is one of his favorite animes, but for whatever reason I kept passing on it until yesterday when I got the first volume from Netflix. As with Code Geass, I can't believe I waited so long to watch it. The show's got slick action, comedy, and plenty of style. I can't wait to watch more of it now.
My brother's got the first half of that and Bacanno, so I'll probably start those after I finish R.O.D. and Code Geass.
The creator of crayon shin-chan is dead. He went hiking on a mountain trail and apparently fell off the mountain.
He was missing for a few days but today they confirmed it.
What a way to go.
If i remember correctly most of the geass haters actually liked up till ep 9 or so but ignoring them season one was really good.
yea its pretty fun and if you watched the original R.O.D ovas it gives a decent insight on what happened after even providing an interesting twist.

So let's convert that from Weeabo bucks to dollars: ~$530 + ~$619 + ~$690 + ~$677 = ~$2,516.
That's more than $18 an episode! And for a show that ended twelve years ago!

don't, it sux.
I like medieval fantasy themes but it sounds like another harem animu.

I can tell just from this one picture :pimp
Major is fucking amazing. :o
are you starting from season 1?
Season 1 and 2 are great, Season 3 begins to drag and Seasons 4 and 5 are pretty much the same things. There is also a movie that's good and set between Seasons 1 and 2, but since it's a flashback, it spoils events from Season 5.
If you liked the first two seasons and wanted something like that, but a lot better, check out Ookiku Furikabutte (or Big Windup in the states). It's pretty much the second best sports anime behind Ippo.
I haven't been watching too much anime in the past few months. I've actually kinda stopped watching anime I was n the middle of, so I should return to those. Probably Michiko to Hatchin since I stopped at episode 15.
railgun was funny but it is definitely a fanservice show I would not recommend to others
That Railgun show looks like it has a bunch of loli designs. And it has fan service and "lezu"? :yuck
I'd go straight for biribiri.

Michiko to Hatchin is average as fuck, that's why. Typical anime. Great visuals, shit story.
As for Major, I was liking Major a lot at first because it placed a lot of emphasis on drama and relationships, but now it seems like your standard baseball manga/anime. Not that that's bad. Still good stuff, though.
And I consider Slam Dunk the best sports anime. Ippo is good, but has zero character development.
Detroit Metal City's manga is better because it continues after the anime's ending. Baccano has a great plot and characters while every DMC episode got repetitive past the first three episodes. You could always predict what was going to happen.
A new season of Inuyasha is coming up. Don't you like Inuyasha? Inuyasha is good. Fairy Tale is apparently One Piece with magic. Seems like a good time to me.
Don't get me wrong, though.
I LOVED DMC and I love you even more for recommending it, but Baccano tickles my dickle a lot more ;)

what are these shows even about rumbler
A Certain Scientific Railgun - Kids with psychokinetic powers live in a futuristic city and help keep the peace. The first episode does a good job of setting this up and manages to avoid one of the biggest problems plaguing new anime: info dump. It gives you the information you need in a way that comes across as a lot more natural than in a lot of series. There's nothing about some shadowy conspiracy or shadowy organizations or shadowy figures. There's Judgement [the city's police force], ESP powers, and varying levels of ESP powers. That's pretty much what the first episode gives you, aside from introducing the four main characters. The highlights of the show are the animation during the action sequences, which is fluid and well-done, and the backgrounds, which are vibrant and detailed. The characters themselves probably won't win any awards for originality, but they do seem to have some depth beyond that.
The Good: Animation during action sequences, backgrounds, good basis for some cool stuff later on, and the characters are slightly above the norm for anime.
The Bad: Cheesecake [Shock!] is present from episode one and it sets the basis for more to come [one of the girls is in love with another of the girls, so expected LOTS of jokes stemming from this].
Hard to tell where it's going to go from here, but the first episode was pretty good.
Letter Bee - In a world where the sun never shines, people called Letter Bees deliver messages and packages between the world's semi-isolated cities. Also, there's these giant insect-things that are massively huge and lurk in the areas between cities. The main characters, named Gauche, comes across his latest package, a young boy named Lag. Together they set out for the destination Gauche was given. Not much in the way of story has come through just yet, but the world is a really interesting one.
The Good: Art style is fairly unique with lots of dark purples and blues, world is interesting, no fanservice in sight.
The Bad: The story really hasn't gotten going yet and the first episode is a bit slow.
Overall: I'm intrigued by the world, so even though there really isn't a story to draw me in just yet, I'll stick with it.
Sunrise made it even more entertaining.
00 is a masterpiece, AA material.

Out of boredom, I decided to watch one of the new fall shows not yet mentioned here. Went for Kampfer, since the description said something like "this is quite possibly the worst show we've ever subbed." :lol
SPOILER REVIEW
I figured this was going to be a tired old harem animu, but it wasn't. The cutesy intro and ending do not fit the show's theme at all, and it was surprisingly light on fan-servicey stuff. Not a panty shot in sight. The premise is a Ranma 1/2 rip-off about a boy who finds himself turned into a girl, because he's been chosen as a "Kampfer" (due to having this bizarre stuffed animal with its guts hanging out and blood drooling out its mouth) and Kampfers must be female, and their job is to fight against other Kampfers for unexplained reasons. Uh...right. S/he takes on another Kampfer, who's some psycho red head with a pistol, but ends up rescuing her when a telephone pole is about to fall on top of her. While this is going on, the girl he likes is watching, and he rescues her from being shot by psycho-bitch too.
What I liked about this show was that it didn't come off as a harem anime, but there's still that chance that it may turn into this, since the protagonist is the only "male" main character. But at least he has a strong personality and even talked to the girl he wants to go out with, without typical animu loser crap going on. No blushing, no "I'M TALKING TO XXXXXX-SAN, YIIIIIIIIIIII" type garbage. He was pretty confident. So at school, he gets called out of class by this timid girl (the male and female students are split between two sides of the school) whose description of stuff sounds like the wrong thing (lots of innuendo), but it was a little lol-worthy. Timid girl is actually psycho bitch; when its Kampfer time, her personality changes. The show deals a little bit with the shemale's predicament when going female (like being uncomfortable in a skirt, and wondering how the hell to use the toilet, that sort of thing), then ends with more action. The only really cringe-worthy animu moment was towards the end, when shemale's crush tells him that she's "interested" in the girl that saved her earlier, which is of course actually him. You can already picture the wacky animu hi-jinx that will ensue from this. Overall it was nothing special; the big shock here is that this is NOT Queen's Blade-level perversion, and is in fact far from it.
time of eve is awesomesauce
junpei tried to get me to watch kampfer :lol, then i wikid the description and laughed
fairy tail the manga is decent, but it is definitely a b-list one piece ripoff crossed with harry potter dna. it's uncreative and kinda cynical in its market targeting, but the art is good, the pacing is quick, the fights aren't drawn out and it manages to be funny from time to time. on the other hand, it's clear that the creator is a bit of a perv, which REALLY reduces my interest in its anime adaptation since the great joy of one piece is that other than the occasionally ridiculous costume it is so very very very pleasantly fanservice-free
"One Piece" is now into the "Thriller Bark" saga, and the creators of the
anime have obviously decided that they need to "compete" for attention
against some of the other current series. Therefore, episode 341 had an
extended Nami shower and bath scene.
One has to wonder if this will help the DVD sales, given that in other
series "steam" has a way of disappearing on the R2 DVDs.
I don't normally consider "One Piece" as a fan service anime. Sure, the
girls are generally busty, and there was that one part in the "Thriller
Bark" arc where Nami spent a lot of screen time wearing nothing but some
water droplets, but otherwise I've always thought of One Piece being a
fairly service-free anime. Now, with the "Amazon Lili" arc, I'm having to
reconsider my position.
The main One Piece story line restarted in episode 408 after two episodes of
filler, just after Luffy and gang were convincingly destroyed by World
Government forces on Sabaody Island. Luffy was blasted into the sky by Kuma,
and ended up on an island of Amazons, where no men are allowed. Okay, what's
the traditional attire of "Amazon Women" movies? Yes, you've got it - very
little at all.
What we have here are literally hundreds and hundreds of individual One
Piece-style women, the majority of whom are busty, dressed in very skimpy
outfits - usually bikini tops or revealing halter tops. The women come in
all shapes and sizes, but the common factor is that they are all showing
lots and lots of skin. Except for the absence (so far) of visible nipples,
this arc is "Queen's Blade", but with a couple orders of magnitude more
quantity of skimpily dressed females.
But none of the bloggers appear to be noticing this. Instead, what has been
grabbing everyone's attention is Luffy's state of undress and half-dress.
Luffy spent the second half of episode 408 naked, except for some
strategically placed soap bubbles, and he spent the first half of episode
409 naked from the waist down. As with Frankie, Luffy seems quite at ease
exhibiting his "kintama" to all of the women. And having his "mushroom"
almost pulled off didn't awaken Luffy either.
smh the lyte edge™ smh
Time of Eve is good, there just isn't much of it. What ep are they on these days anyways? I think I saw up to 3 or 4.
Sora no Otoshimono
You know those nightmares where you get up in front of your class to do a presentation only to realize that you're stark naked? Given the choice to live that nightmare or watch Sora no Otoshimono…well, I'd probably go with Sora no Otoshimono. But only by a hair.
Scrawny twerp Tomo has a recurring dream about a winged girl who leaves him to live in the sky. When he asks a warped classmate about it, he is sent to a nighttime rendezvous with a black hole-thing, from which falls a (different?) winged girl who instantly imprints on him and promises to do anything, anything he wants her to. Let the rampaging of the libido begin.
There's wish-fulfillment and then there's diseased fantasy. This is the latter. When Ikaros imprints on Tomo, a chain sprouts from her collar (yes, she wears a collar) and wraps around his hand. He spends the rest of the episode literally leading her around by a chain. That is when he isn't ogling her, telling her to strip, and almost (but not quite, he is a good guy after all) forcing himself on her. And that's before Tomo discovers that Ikaros can stop time and render him invisible. After watching Tomo run amuck like a naked, invisible SD leprechaun groping and stripping panties off of unsuspecting girls, you'll need a bucket of soap and a scouring pad to feel clean again. And to add insult to injury, the episode tries to take an emotional turn at the end (no, seriously) that leaves its stinky, sticky fingerprints all over every heartstring it tries to pluck. Never have I been so ashamed to be a man.

Kanokon's story revolves around Kouta Oyamada, a young first-year high school student who moves from the country to the city and thus transfers to Kunpō High School. On his first day at his new school, he meets a beautiful second-year female student named Chizuru Minamoto. Chizuru asks him to meet her alone in the music room. When he arrives, she tells him that she is in love with him and accidentally reveals to him that she is in fact a fox spirit. Chizuru constantly flirts with Kouta which embarrasses him greatly due to others watching. Soon after the story begins, a wolf spirit named Nozomu Ezomori transfers into Kouta's school and class. From day one, she is all over Kouta which serves to embarrass him more and cause Chizuru to become annoyed at her new competition for Kouta's affection.

Really? The manga's full of it. :lol Guess they toned it down or you just haven't gotten to anything yet.
Also what do you mean by "recently-released?" New season or something? This is another show I'd like to watch, but I've read all the manga up to around volume 12 or so. I like that despite having very few (human) male characters, it isn't harem crap. I love Mine Yoshizaki's artwork...he did the designs for Otomedius and also the guest character Angol Fear (which totally did not fit the game) in Soul Calibur IV.
I remember when I used to watch a ton of season openers for anime seasons like Great Rumbler is doing now.
I honestly don't understand how the hell he can do it but whatever, power to the people.

Wait... what? What? :-\
We watched Book Of Bantorra 1-2 yesterday. The second episode was definitely much better than the first, which was just a clusterfuck of "WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?" Bizarre show.
Oh man, that CG was cringe-worthy. Blurry n' muddy-- kinda like Bayonetta on PS3 lolz lolz
My other complaint -not that this really matters- is that two of the characters (big-boobed chief lady and that Yakuza-looking guy) are wearing clothing that is completely out of place given the series' 1930s-era setting.
Maybe an odd question, but what's the best anime featuring Mai Kadowaki (http://myanimelist.net/people/117/Mai_Kadowaki)? Pani Poni Dash? Ouran?
Great Rumbler, which of those are the more serious animes? I'm not in the mood for comedies or lovey dovey shit right now.

Bantorra - A bit like a Gonzo series, but it's been really good after the terrible first episode. Episode 4 kind of throws a curveball though, so it's hard to say for sure if it'll stay as good as the past three episodes have been.
Aoi Bungaka - Serious drama series based on Japanese literature. 12 episodes, 6 different stories. First episode was really good and had some of the most striking visuals of the season.
That's about it, unfortunately.
No. I haven't seen Princess 9. It's hard making me watch anything with the word "princess" in it.
It's how I watched the original DtB. Hei's JP voice is so deep compared to his english counterpart.I'm not seeing the problem here, but whatever. People usually prefer whatever version they heard first.
So how is the October season shaping up after a 3-4 eps per show? Any real hits?
Just caught up on FMA. Still average shounen level adaptation with weak animation, boooooooo

next year?! :maf
Just started watching Soul Eater. :-*
I haven't been following anime very much lately. For most of this year actually. I'm either going through a phase or my interest in it is slowly dying. :(
Aside from the robot shows, my interest in anime is pretty much dead. Too many cute shows and not enough generally interesting series. Good thing we're getting new Gundam and Votoms shows in 2010.
Shut up, MCD. One show can't make a season good. Unless it's Gurren Lagann.
beezy, i don't want to stalk you.MCD
don't make me.
My local Best Buy had Ghost in the Shell 2.0 early, and for only $13.99. Can't wait to see how much they screwed up one of the best anime movies of all time with Lucas-esque dickery. :'(

All they did was drop in a few out-of-place CG scenes that totally clash with the 2D everywhere else. The whole thing comes across as completely pointless considering that they weren't willing to just reanimated the whole thing.

Yuck...let that movie die already. Ghost In The Shell wasn't even one of Shirow's best works. Give me a GOOD animated version of Appleseed or more Dominion Tank Police any day.

I've had the full run of SAC for ages, and never watched it. I've also got the full-CG Appleseed, unwatched. How much am I missing? A lot, or should I just go re-read the Dominion comics?
I love Shirow, but in general I find his comics visually luscious but incomprehensible. The GITS movies were similarly dry and confounding, but not even as visually pleasing.

Got both seasons downloaded and the movie, too. Just haven't gotten around to it yet. I got stuff from 10 years ago I still haven't watched yet. :-\

SAC is not even based on Shirow's stuff, I think. But it doesn't matter; I'm talking strictly the first movie.

A lot of the GitS manga shows up in SAC, but the majority of the series is original.
Cool! There was another group doing this, but its taking them fucking forever...they had four episodes done last time I checked.
The VHS rips that have been floating around are nigh-unwatchable.

Does anyone know about Funimation's blu-ray releases? I decided to go ahead and try one of their sets (Burst Angel); figured $40 for a complete TV series was worth a shot. Witchblade just came out a couple of days ago. I have the DVD set but have yet to watch it. Figure the jump in quality is probably not worth buying again, since it was never broadcast in HD.I will buy Darker than Black Blu ray box if Funi bring it over here but other than that don't think I will bother, maybe Sengoku Basara and Gurren Lagann if they ever get the Blu ray treatment. 99% of my animu are from the interbutt (that 1% is Gurren Lagann DVD) so I can buy these Blu ray releases with ease since I never bought them on DVDs, as long as they ain't total upscale shite.
Also I see that Akira is on blu-ray. Any point in bothering? Basically, are any of these blu-rays worth it if you have the DVDs already? Maybe it's the wrong method of thinking, but it seems like it would be easier to clean up the picture and improve the color on animation over live-action...
Akira looks great on Blu-Ray, but there's no extras, so if that's important you may keep your SE DVD. Don't know about Funimation's series releases, but I heard that Samurai 7 was sketchy.
I'm waiting for that Samurai Champloo Blu-Ray, it comes out in December.
I have Fullmetal Panic The Second Raid on Blu-ray, I hear it's an upconvert, but it looks pretty damn good.
and oh, don't buy Full Metal Panic, all the Blu ray screenshots I saw are very, very shitty upscales.

We have released Blu-ray just no anime as of yet. We are looking at 12 Kingdoms as it is HD. Not sure yet but we will do a few anime Blu-rays in 2010 for sure.
Cencoroll was aight but it wasn't very standalone. It was more like "STAY TUNED FOR NEXT WEEK!" but we don't when/if there is ever gonna be a next week for it.

Looks hot. Only thing I don't like is the CG transformation when all the rest of the robot stuff is gorgeous 2d.
Whose doing the music? It sounded great.
I'm watching this OVA series called Genocyber and, ya know, watching it...kind of makes me want to die. The second episodes had a major plot point that revolved around a group of kids being brutally ripped apart in the most violent manner possible. Now, I know what you're thinking, surely an anime like that much be TOTALLY AWESOME, but everything surrounding that scene is pointlessly dull and pointlessly incomprehensible and all the characters are so one-dimensional and stupid and unlikeable that the bursts of super-violence only make the show even more soul-crushingly depressing. Little wonder it's from Koichi Ohata, the man behind MD Geist.
I've slogged through an hour and half, but there's still an hour left. If I don't post any tomorrow, you guys will know why. :-\
If it was from the same guy who made MD Geist, I can only imagine. :yuck
I remember the days when anime like that was getting pimped FULL FORCE by companies. So I guess things really have gotten a lot better.
Watched the first episode of Burst Angel Blu-Ray. Very nice, clean image; I think Funi did a pretty good job on enhancing everything for 1080P.
Didn't he also direct the much-heralded Char's Counter Attack? Maybe just the horror/ultraviolence stuff isn't his thing.

With that said, I downloaded Wicked City the other night. I really got into it for awhile, and I almost wanted to recommend it to some friends, but why the hell does it need so much weird sexual stuff? Like, why does that tentacle parasite have to enter the girl's throat in such a sexually penetrative fashion? And why does the spider demon shoot webbing from a toothed vagina? Most of the movie is fucking badass - the action scenes, the overall premise, the characters, but I know if I tried to show it to most of my friends they'd be like "wtf, you perv" when those scenes came up.
great rumbler, to answer your question you posted on gaf: because i don't like modern anime tv series for the most part, and I know jack shit about Trapeze. But one thing is true: I LOVE sports anime.
These days it's moe; in the late-80's through the mid-90's it was weird sexual stuff. Especially in movies and OVAs.
Also, Wicked City was directed by the same guy that did Ninja Scroll, so no surprise there.
I woundn't make that comparison; stuff like Wicked City you could count on one hand back then, whereas moe is like EVERYTHING now.

Nah, I read that years back. It was clearly a comic made for girls of that age (also written and drawn by a woman) and was more in the "gross-out/comedy" vein like a lot of boys' comics with similar themes are. I dunno if the anime adaption perved it up or not though.

When They Cry is kind of awesome.
Oh. It's crazy dark, which is why I suggested it. It's not mindless in the least.
If you want something crazy violent, check out Black Lagoon or the new Hellsing OVAs.

I think I might be in the mood for something insanely violent or dark...but I'm open to all suggestions. (I've already seen Gantz and Elfen Lied)

finished Major season 5. Season 6 in April I think.
Sunred is brilliant.
It has its moments. It's hard to remember when Season 4 ended and Season 5 began.
My favorite part was probably Kaido. In sports anime, I like the training sequences, and Goro showed how super human he was during that part.
That's supposed to be a comedy ???

FMA manga is bad-ass
It's a shame the 2nd anime series won't cover the stuff in the latest chapters.
I'm a borderline fan of the FMA manga. It reads really, really well and is a total page-turner. Good art too and some enjoyable characters. Feels big and epic.
...but whenever I stop and think about the plot points I come away feeling the story behind it all is kinda lame. I actually like the first anime's original plot much, much better (not counting the shitty movie). Although Ling is an awesome character so I give the manga story that and Pride is way better in the manga story too.

the first 25 episodes of the original fma anime were utterly brilliant in my own opinion.
the rest not so much.

time to marathon this bitch.
Bandai Ent. USA put out their March 2010 release schedule, and surprise surprise, no mention of Gundam Unicorn.
Hope this isn't a spoiler, but I just tried out the Gundam Unicorn in Gundam Vs. Gundam Next Plus on PSP. It has a powered-up form that looks like more like a traditional Gundam (the head part). Pretty cool-looking mech.

How close is the one piece anime to the manga?
i've had a friend who was a pretty big evangelion fan
i watched some episode,i got a good idea of the story but i never bothered with the ending, the movie and all the extra stuff (i just discovered there even was a manga) should i bother or should i spare myself from the suffering?
Apparently volume 4 mentioned that he was 17. Although he ought to be at least in his 20's by now.
How close is the one piece anime to the manga? Its about 40 chapters currently. Which translates into, well, 40 episodes since they've been going at a 1-1 pace for the last few years.
Yeah, apparently in that "Volume 0" book they handed out at the new movie, Oda had written something like "This will be Luffy's last adventure as a 17 year old, so please enjoy it!". Currently, no one knows what the hell he meant by that or why its the movie that will be hist last adventure.Apparently volume 4 mentioned that he was 17. Although he ought to be at least in his 20's by now.there was a rumor where Oda has recently indicated that Luffy is still 17 and this current battle will be the last of that age.

my darker than black 2 brief impressions and the ending:spoiler (click to show/hide)whole yin thing wasn't to my liking, she should have stayed as a doll and aided chinese electric batman like usual instead of some fucked up nia like character, it doesn't help that they don't explain shit about her leaving you to wait for some dvd ova special bullshit.
overall, pleased with the sequel thanks to the good fight scenes and the gorgeous bones art/animation, the new characters were also good (like Hazuki and August 7) along with returning characters (July is a pimp and you know it).
as for the ending, like season 1 it is some hell gate bullshit blahblahblah (i would have actually loved it if they didn't "kill" suo's character, what a waste) and leaves a room for a sequel, i will welcome it as long as Hei is in, he just makes every fight more interesting but i dunno, they ended this one fast with only 12 episodes and whole animu business doesn't look all that good recently so this might actually be the last dtb.[close]

Deliver unto us a US release, hastily forsooth! :bow
Good news on the subs, but it's gonna be like $80, isn't it? :(
Outlook doesn't appear to be very good on an actual US release, regardless of what Bandai's press release said. At least the Blu-ray has English subs and a dub and it's the same region as North America.
Is the DVD also going to have English subs 'n dub?
Oh a main character that doesn't look like a whiny little bitch.
now i'm interested
Bandai Visual (Japan) is in charge of this release according to everything we know. They could just release it as is to North America and sell it for R2 prices like they did with their now-defunct Honneamise line. As of now, there is no NA release.

But once again I have to ask, why bother subbing and dubbing if it's not getting released outside Japan? That doesn't make sense.
Wait, wait, wait! That Koizumi short is actually part of a series? :lol Must watch.

I dunno if I'm going to be able to get through this Ladies Vs. Butlers show. Panty shot within the first 12 seconds? A show about "servant education?" "Flamehart-san?" (the bad sub job makes it even better) How does the main character not fall down with that gigantic hair? Looks like two huge French bread loaves trailing behind her. At least the other main character is ripping on her haircut.

ive been watching umineko, which is super fucking weird
the main character battler keeps trying to disprove magic despite using magic to do so which I thought was bizarre, has to be a translation error because it makes more sense if hes trying to disprove murder as being done without magic
every ep just seems like an excuse for beatrice the witch to laugh all evil like whenever she has the chance
I do enjoy scenes where maria is beaten mercilessly because she is a creepy loli and deserves it, how she has survived this long is the real mystery

I have resumed viewing, and sadly, right you are indeed. This seems to be the "incredible growing breast animu," since anytime our hero gets in the vicinity of a female chest, they grow three times in size. He fondled the loli who looks like she's 9, but it's okay because she's really 19! :( What is with the girls all fainting when he runs by them, too? Why does the chick he spills coffee on take off her clothes? Why does she then sit there watching as his nose get stuck in some other chick's crotch? (at which point, my wife gave me the biggest :wtf look I have ever seen :lol) Where is the plot? Why the hell am I still watching this?
EDIT: Did...did I just see two Muslim females? Shit's gonna hit the fan if there's some burqa upskirt.
you liked it didn't you
No. It wasn't quality ecchi animu like Queen's Blade. I turn my nose up at it. :tophat
I'm also beginning to understand Japanese censorship laws. Breast grabbing is fine, but bath scenes are a no-no! Can't have the kiddies seeing anything inappropriate.
Well that Breast Milk drinking anime may have a tough time on its hands then :(

Well, Queen Blade did get away with topless chicks lactating acid out of their boobs and firing it as a weapon, so I'm sure they'll find a way.
:wtf

Fuck this, off to the movie theater!
:rofl
And that wasn't even the worst thing I saw the first episode. :lol
There's a preview for that breast milk anime out. It tries to present itself as ULTRA-SERIOUS and EPIC. :lol

Do/can we have a straight up manga thread around here? Because we only have one piece and this. I wanna discuss more mangas.

i prefer anime with action. the last comedy anime that i found enjoyable was midori days.

I heard the new Gundam models are fueled by moe moe gyaruzu squirting breast milks into the cockpits.

That Qwazer show or whatever it's called is beyond idiotic.
I will give the breast milk thing, but the rest of it is cool enough and disturbing as hell.
We need a manga thread so that we can talk about how awesome Pluto is.

Too bad the creepy breast milk thing is like the basis for the whole show.

Naruto is poo :yuck
Bleach is poo :yuck
Hunter X Hunter is back and FUCK AWESOME :borysspoiler (click to show/hide)will watch/read one piece eventually[close]
I liked Pluto but I think it suffered from the same flaws as Monster & 20th Century Boys. It's super intriguing and an absolute page turner that builds and builds up the suspense and then in the end the manga can't live up the momentum/mystery that's been built up and so the post-revelations story is meh and unsatisfying.

Agreed on Naruto (should have ended with Exam Arc, everything post time-skip has been lame outside Jiraiya vs. Pain)
Agreed on Bleach (should have ended with Soul Society arc, instead milked for years and it's gotten worse and worse)
But I don't get why people care about HxH anymore. I used to love HxH during the first few arcs and even Greed Island was ...readable even if it was not great. But the bug arc has been complete shit. Even aside from the pencil drawings, the characters are boring, the story sucks, and it's mainly just a bunch of fights now that I can't bring myself to care about because of the two things I mentioned. This arc should've ended years ago and the manga should have either gotten better or ended.
This is why I read One Piece, because everything else in Jump sucks.

I hate when that happens, but as long as the journey's worth it I'll definitely pick up a few more volumes.
Never read HxH and i have no reason to careWoah woah woah. You gave fucking Bleach and Naruto a chance, give HxH a chance too. I only watched the anime, but it's better than Bleach and on par or better than Naruto.

The chimera arc is awful in HxH but at least it is getting finished. Apparently the reason it was on hiatus for a year was because the writer had another baby with the Sailor Moon writer.
Also, right now the Hajime no Ippo manga sucks big time.
I also read Hitman Reborn, which isn't a good series and is confusing as hell right now. yeah, I need to start one piece.

Darker than Black manga has awesome art and the last chapter was awesome because a girl kicked a guy and HE EXPLODED.

i was pretty surprised when i saw chapter 10,11 and 12 scanlated today.
feels good man.
I read Nijigahara Hologram today which was ok. I didn't particularly care for it but it was competently written.
Then since I was in the manga mood I spent the last 3 hours finishing up the last 25 chapters of Bokurano and that was sure a waste of time. No plot twist, no explanation, no positive ending. Just shit that gets worse and worse and worse and then it ends like you would expect from the beginning. It read pretty well and was totally depressing the entire time, but since there was no surprises in the end it was just kind of boring. Especially compared to Narutaru's crazy fucked up ending.
Yeah, Narutaru is probably the most fucked up manga I've ever read. Like I would be afraid to have copies of the original Japanese version on my shelves in fear of being arrested some day and it used against me. Narutaru starts out all "hi we're pokemon" and ends up all End of Eva style except incredibly evil, with lots of loli sex and hardcore gore and everyone and everything dying all the time in any way. I mean hell Dark Horse couldn't even release it uncensored in the US. The tone kind of reminded me of Saikano, but Saikano had some tact; Narutaru has none.

I actually about know this since i was reading it but i didn't know that someone actually finished translating it (since dark horse showed no intention of getting the rest and no one at the time was translating) so i just shelved it and eventually forgot about it.
@ bold: thats what got me really interested (and disappointed since i wanted to see it untouched) at the time. I mean its dark horse, the people who fucking releases Hellsing volumes and they couldn't do this.
i was like holy crap
any other anime like it?
Watched Naucissa over break, holy shit that was a great movie. I especially loved the 80's synth soundtrack to it, and the world/premise was very cool. I need to get back into watching more animu.

Black Lagoon or Canaan maybe.

Baccano is good because of the plot. You just named two shows with no plot and gun action violence.

reading wolf guy and not seeing what's the fuss all about.
I really like the way he draws lips. And one of the latest chapters had full frontal :o
On another note, I watched the first episode of winter anime Chu-Bra. It's bad. Real bad. Some of you might be tempted to ask, "Sure, but is it worse than Ladies vs. Butlers?" and there's really only one response that I can have to that: Would you rather have AIDS or syphilis? That's really what it boils down to.
Although, in Chu-Bra's defense, it does actually have a point, even if that point is really quite horrifying.

I just love it due to the art.
Full frontal, female masturbation and even a school shooting is coming up, its like Gantz :lol
Also, as you're watching Chu-Bra, please bear in mind that the characters are in the seventh grade. As in, 12-13 years old.
Oh and Ladies vs Butlers wasnt that bad.
i'd read zetman, viz
just need more love that's all

I think it's funny that the creator is a woman.

true but we still have the 4 ovas for that.no hating on my fellow DtB cigarillo now.

The manga is what a second season should have been.
But i guess it would have taken a while to create.
Is the show by Baccano people good?
Good good, or loli good?
ehy bore, under viz suggestion i'm watching the big o

ANOTHER HIGH SCHOOL SHOW.
I'll check it out, but man...even the ones people are praising (that Vampire show) seem to have the same ol' everything. I haven't watched it, but checked the quality after I DL'd it, and the first thing I see when I skip to a segment is BIG BOUNCY TITTIES and then LOLI GIRL STANDING ON HIGH PLACE OVER THE CITY.

The first episode is actually pretty good, though I figure it's only a matter of time [like, next episode] before it goes full-blown loli. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprise, but I doubt it. :-\
But if you only watch one high school show this season, make sure it's Baka to Test to Shokanjou!
Durarara!!'s the real savior of this season though. It's gonna be good!
i think its from a filler ep or something, anyway i love kurokos voice
Dancing with Vampires or whatever went in and out of being interesting/amusing and boring.
Qwaser :teehee
smh, lyte edge, smhspoiler (click to show/hide)If anything it's a bit-time parody of those kinds of shows, and sports-type shows where the down-on-its-luck team perserveres and trains in order to defeat the best team in the world. And it's great at what it does.[close]
Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu – Last Dumb Impressions
Please go back and try again
Among the tremendous amount of harems, ecchi shows, and romance come Baka to Test, a most original story about straight F students who enjoys dueling. As intriguing as the idea of watching yet another show about students going to school to learn the arts of the dueling and becoming abusive Pokemon masters, Baka to Test is proving to be more that I thought it would in terms of failing to entertain and and moving on to the realm of I don’t see why they still make shows like this except for the fact that people still like it.
Story? Let’s see. We have the top straight +A girl who is most friendly towards the most incompetent guy on the whole student. Mind you, it should be hard to distinguish who is the biggest failure among the large amount of F students though but let’s flip a coin and pick the guy with the who is the undivided center of attention of this show even though he has have no other redeeming qualities to make Baka to Test any more or less interesting. I’m just assuming he’s the main character because he has the most amount of screen-time and his incompetence should make other F students feel better about themselves. Too bad that in those 25 minutes Baka to Test ran he or the show didn’t manage to make me grin once. You’re failing this course, buddy.
Mind you Mizuki’s l33t writing skills was the only redeeming thing I found
I half expected Mizuki to be the Louise of Baka to Tsukaima but that wasn’t the case, for better or for worse. What I sawinstead was that Mizuki was the Miyuki of Baka to Test for better or for worse. They should have added a pair of glasses to her design if they were going for that appeal.
Although supposedly Mizuki’s presence is supposed to make this show a bit more interesting, it doesn’t accomplish to make any difference at all. Ok, I’m exaggerating she’s likeable just doesn’t shine enough as the trap of the show. At least they introduced his twin sister who is actually not a guy in the first episode… or is she? The rest of the characters are more plain than vanilla flavor. It was more like, Hi, uh-huh, I’ve seen you before. We could be friends but let’s not. Let’s move on.
Mind you, I never had any real interest in RPG games and I don’t understand what’s so great about them. So this might be a good argument to explain why Baka to Test isn’t appealing to me at all. Maybe is the boring characters and ’stupid” premise of a show, the unfunny jokes and a show whose only good attribute was its surprisingly great animation. Frankly, I doubt that watching an anime with RPG-like battles is going to make me enjoy it any more. Even less when I didn’t find the first episode to be any more interesting than the rest of the shows that I already stopped watching, but only less painful. Getting Baka To Test out of the way right now will save me the trouble of dropping it later on.
More shows that actually will manage to catch my attention are supposed to air this week so I’ll patiently wait for them. Hopefully I won’t have to politely ask anime studios to wake me up when the season is over.
Verdict : Dropped
Fall 2010 release, right?even if it is, the dvd/blu ray release will be like...fall 2011 lol.

With how broad and over-the-top the whole thing is played, how could it not be seen as parody?
Well, whatever, not everyone can be pleased.

Don't have much hope though, Japan has become a wasteland of talent in every medium. I dunno what happened, but everything out of that country has been sucking for the last few years in comparison to the quality they produced in the 80s/90s and first few years of 2000s.
Instead it's just kinda like every other anime on the planet.

Plenty of great games from J-land. Comics too. It's just anime that's in the pooper.
I haven't watched it yet since a sub has yet to appear, but apparently Qwaser got chopped up pretty bad by the censors. To the point where you can't even tell what's going on in some of the scenes. Laaaaaame.
finished up baccano. wow what an amazing show. it had the right blend of action, mystery, and humor. i'm kinda sad now since it'll be practically impossible for any other anime to match its greatness.
i will probably never watch that show since some asshole ruined it for me years ago.
my problem with cowboy bebop was the setting, not my thing despite me appreciating the sound, the characters and the animation.

I'd argue otherwise but this is an anime thread and not a "decline of the Japanese game & comic industry" thread. :P

i'm no fan of bebop either, there is barely any plot in it for me to care,it's just random action scenes for the entire thing,i could say the same of trigun tough i guess i like trigun music more
bebpo hates everything
I like anime, but the majority of what's been coming out recently is horrid. HORRID.
I like anime, but the majority of what's been coming out recently is horrid. HORRID.
maybe i'll give bebop a go after i finish darker than black.
but seriously being spoiled like i was really hurts my desire to see it.
oh i suppose i should also mention that i finally watched all of death note and have never seen a show tank so hard for 20 eps. after 15th eps it just kept getting worse and worse until eps 26 (i think) where things start looking up for a second but any hope of it getting better were dashed away once near and mellow were introduced.
i liked death note (boo-urns!) manga ending is slightly different and dare to say better than the anime ending

the manga version is better because Ryuk does the deed himself quicker.

Self-professed 'real otaku' rips into 'moe' fetish fakers
One of Japan's most prominent woman manga artists has lashed out at the country's burgeoning otaku culture, saying that those now proudly boasting of being geeks are little more than pedophiles, perverts and losers, according to Shukan Bunshun (5/18).
Mimei Sakamoto, a multitalented manga artist whose "Nippon no Mimei" is a must-read for all hip young Japanese, rips into the otaku, whose geek culture has moved into the mainstream courtesy of the business of "moe," a word that literally translates as "gushing" and describes the warm feeling the otaku get when they see something they like.
"Perhaps it's because 'Train Man' (the story of an otaku who wins the heart of a pretty woman) was such a hit, but recently I've seen all these dorky guys walking around in thick glasses and checkered shirts and it pains my heart to think that they may be hoping to meet some pretty girl who's going to fall in love with them. Sorry guys, the chances of that happening are zero," Sakamoto tells Shukan Bunshun.
Sakamoto goes on to lambaste the otaku tendencies to idolize young girls and women wearing spectacles.
"This fetish you call 'moe' is a pedophiliac fetish and is nothing more than perversion. It's not really something you should be gushing over," the manga artist says, addressing the otaku. "In other countries, they'd call what you're fantasizing over 'child pornography' and you'd all be arrested. I'm ashamed that these 'otaku' who are perpetual criminals have entered the mainstream and started an otaku boom."
Sakamoto continues, saying that those now regarded as otaku really aren't geeks at all.
"All the world is going around talking about maid cafes and stuff and making these so-called otaku look good. But people must realize that these guys are simply men incapable of recognizing reality and are incapable of being in a normal loving relationship. I can't stop crying over the fact that these people have been labeled as otaku and that we are now going through an otaku boom," she tells Shukan Bunshun.
The manga artist also points out that sharp marketers are also suckering the ersatz otaku.
"There's a tendency in the otaku market to avoid producing contents that are going to sell in terms of millions or tens of millions. Instead, they find a semi-hit then bring out figurines, DVD box sets, premium editions and all sorts of related materials that are drastically over-wrapped and sell to the same people who bought the original product in the first place," the manga artist says. "So-called otaku are caught up in this money making cycle and all they're doing is spending their hard-earned yen (which often comes from their parents in a lot of cases). And, what's really sad, is that loads of these gullible suckers don't even realize that they're being taken for a ride."
Sakamoto claims to have street credibility.
"I'm a fully-fledged otaku. I used to shut myself away from the world. A real otaku would never go out and about in the world because they wouldn't believe anything good could happen to them if they did so, anyway. They all believe the world is out to get them," Sakamoto tells Shukan Bunshun. "Real otaku should go back and shut yourselves off from the world again. The true value of being a real otaku lay in the belief that nobody else understands you."
I gave up on Chu-Bra after the second episode. Even ironically, I just can't watch any more of it.

Despite the ecchi, my wife liked it. She kept saying how she understood the characters' feelings and that it could be a good show for girls that age. :lol Is there such thing as "ecchi shoujo?" LOL.
Episode 2 of Durarara!! was more focused than the first, as expected. It continues to be really, really good and much better than anything else this season.
Episode 2 of Baka to Test was good too. I know lyte hates it, but I think it manages to be just enough of a parody of the battle arena and high school comedy genres to be consistently funny. Yeah, some [most] of the stuff is stuff we've all seen before, but it's got a light-hearted energy to it that just works.
Episode 2 of Cobra the Animation was another injection of pure 80's nostalgia, a much appreciated thing in these dark times.

Duradura aired and no one told me?
Alright, guys and gals, here's the news you've finally been waiting for: The winter 2009 anime season is officially SAVED. That's right, well and truly saved, courtesy of the creators of Bacano!, meaning that I'm talking about Durarara!!.
First episode is mainly setup since there's a ton of characters all moving around and sometimes interacting with each other, much like Bacano. Right now it's a bit difficult to see where it's going, but that's not really a problem right now. Anyway, the first episode was really good. There were a lot of characters, some that look rather interesting, and a bit of mystery added in. The story is about a highschool kid who has never once left his home town and then transfer to Ikebukoro to go to school with a guy that knew several years ago. But that's just the surface, there's a lot going on beneath that and it looks like a good setup for some awesomeness. Here's the kicker: animu is a minimum, fanservice is zilch, and moe-loli is not found here.
Rejoice, my brothers. Rejoice.
I JUST ASKED LIKE A WEEK AGO IF THE BACCANO TEAM'S ANIME HAD AIRED AND YOU SAID NO
i'm no fan of bebop either, there is barely any plot in it for me to care,it's just random action scenes for the entire thing,i could say the same of trigun tough i guess i like trigun music more
One of the few shows I've seen that comes as close to the quality of Cowboy Bebop on all levels is Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.

The guys behind Ladies vs. Butlers are really outdoing themselves. I'm reading about the third episode and it apparently involves this:

i love how this passes but Quazer gets the censored bat really hard to the face :lol :lol :lol :lol
Almost finished Umineko, it's a pretty awesome show. The broadcast version is censored like a bitch, though. They can't even show people getting a fence post jammed through their neck with pixelation. :(

Violence is a terrible thing, Joe. Can't have the children getting exposed to that! Now back to Majikaru Moe Moe Hadaka Loli Reepu Chu.
She is “19,” so there is nothing untoward about any of this.
Ladies Versus Butlers scares me. :-\

I'm all for less violence and more sex (as in, it's always been fucked up to me that sex is taboo in society and it is reflected this way in TV shows/movies, but violence is no problem!), but naked little girls and borderline molestation scenarios is where the line has to be drawn.
I have no problem with sex, none. However, little girls (just because you say they're 19 doesn't make it true!) and awkwardly perverse material has taken over Japan.
And my favorite genre, mecha, for the most part, has been relegated to movies and OVAs in favor of this crap.

At least back in the day the sick stuff was relegated to OVA. Now some of the stuff they get away with on TV, makes crap like Urotsukidōji seem normal.
Think I may check out that Golgo 13 series from a couple of years ago too.
Well, I haven't seen anything even come close to a dead coming back to life, raping a nurse in the morgue, and then growing to the size of a giant while his equally-gigantic member crushes buildings like a runaway subway train. And then there's a climatic battle where the two characters' dicks are used as weapons! :lol That first Urotsukidoji was fucking hilarious.
Ladies Versus Butlers scares me. :-\

Apparently NAKED LOLI RAPE = OK! -but- BREAST MILK DRINKIN' = NO GO ADULTS ONLY WHAT ARE YOU A PERVERT?!

Seems like even the mecha stuff has been invaded by moe moe and bishonen characters, looking at Gundam 00 and even its predecessors like Wing.
so anyone watched this umineko thing? i've read the premise and it sounds interessing plus supposedly it's made by the higurashi creator which was cool when it wasn't busy being all :uguu

All right, I will check out Baka To Test #2 and see what I think. If it sucks, you will be subjected to a 72-hour torture session with nothing but Ladies Vs. Butlers playing on an endless loop.
The new Cobra TV show is ridiculous. I love it.
So what shows are everyone watching this season? Just Durarara and Cobra mainly?

If we were taking bets on Berserk finishing I would bet on the "Miura dies in the next 20 years; manga never finishes" category.

That looks SO good.
The listing for the March issue of Fujimi Shobo's Monthly Dragon Age magazine on the Seven Net Shopping website states that an anime adaptation of Daisuke Satō and Shoji Sato's Highschool of the Dead manga has been green-lit. The listing also says that the manga will resume in the same issue after a break of more than a year, and it will also adorn the cover. The March issue will ship on February 9.
The story follows a group of students and a school nurse who try to survive a worldwide plague that has turned people into the living dead.
is the manga any good? all i know about it is huge tits and zombies.

Yeah, there's no 720P version of episode 4, but there is one of episode 5.spoiler (click to show/hide)http://www.tokyotosho.info/[close]
This first episode really feels like a short but impressive feature film, complete with a big budget and a movie-sized plot. If it has any kinks in it, it's that it still falls into the "boy pilots father's giant robot" storyline that's been a staple of mecha anime for decades, even though initially it didn't look like it would go there. However, Gundam UC, at least with this initial approach, tackles that well-worn story with a little more nuance than we've seen before. Otherwise, it's a beautiful entry into the Gundam franchise thus far and a promising start for Universal Century fans.

Soul Eater was an awesome show, except for the gayest final episode in the history of Television.
Yo, somebody tell me what this Bakemonogatari is?
duckroll is saying it's about to become the highest selling/most popular anime in Japan on blu-ray in a few more releases when it outsells Eva.
Is this actually a great show? You'd think if it was selling so much because of the usual otaku pandering or loli pervert shit it wouldn't have enough pull to outsell even Eva, so does that mean there's some real quality involved? Should I watch the show?

Hey powerslave I got some interesting doujins I can send you. MCD can vouch for me.
First you gotta explain to me what doujins means.
jojo had dio, the villain read pages from the koran.
some slut in a burqa is not that extreme not to mention it probably won't be as well known as jojo.

some slut in a burqa is not that extreme not to mention it probably won't be as well known as jojo.
This show had a Muslim chick get naked and do all but fuck the main character, PLUS it had random Farsi text...IIRC that's the same thing that happened with JoJo's. The people that made it had no idea where it came from.
You have to hand it to the people who make this show. They continue to find ways to top the tasteless list!
sounds like a very good anime, sir.

I bought a couple anime blu-ray releases last year (Akira, Sword of the Stranger, FMP Second Raid), but March is going to be big for me, with Gundam Unicorn, Eureka Seven movie, Eva movie and Ponyo.
I'm very tempted to get the new Votoms OVA on blu-ray while I'm in Japan.

I think it's out of print, so buy it ASAP if you see it.
edit: $100 at Amazon looks like the cheapest price. I ordered it from Deep Discount during one of their big sales a couple years back and got it super cheap.

It's good because of Hideyoshi. I know it and you know it, lets not deny it.
It's a great new manga about girl's mixed martial arts. There are only six chapters out so far, but it seems very promising. The fact that main character is incredibly mean spirited, while her rival is the tiny and cheerful one makes for an very refreshing change of pace.
So, are you going to tell us what it's called or are we just supposed to guess?
I was looking on MangaFox and the first chapter was posted November 2008 and the sixth was posted December 2009. They're fifty pages long, but that's at least two months in between each chapter. :'(Not surprising considering that its apparently published in a bimonthly magazine.
so Gundam Unicorn 1st episode is out
so Gundam Unicorn 1st episode is out
Yeah? I'm waiting until I get my blu-ray on March 12th.
I hear it has a cliffhanger to end all cliffhangers
...and 2nd ep isn't until the fall :X
And don't be queer MCDtoo late junpei, too late.

Uhhh, why would you watch the movies which have been EDITED. Watch the OAVs. They are AWESOME. The second one is not quite as AWESOME as the first but it's still great.
The OVA series is greatness, especially the ending. The second OVA is pretty good, but [aside from some FLCL awesomeness] it doesn't quite stack up.
Both are worth watching of course.
Don't bother with the edited movies. :yuck
Lyte, you should just watch the OAVs.
That being said I did find the first few eps of Gunbuster 2 to be kind of boring. I never finished it but I hear the last 3 eps are awesome and where all the good stuff is.

so, is this Teppu thing good?
Waiting for the DVD here since I don't own a Triple and don't pirate shit.
but 08th MS Team and 0083 Stardust Memory are my favorites so far.
I'm sure Himuro and distant will be in here soon, but 08th MS Team and 0083 Stardust Memory are my favorites so far.
I haven't seen that yet. :(
I'm sure Himuro and distant will be in here soon, but 08th MS Team and 0083 Stardust Memory are my favorites so far.
Movie trilogy is good, Zeta TV series is great, ZZ TV series starts out horrible but gets a lot better about halfway through. Finish things up with Char's Counterattack and you'll be caught up for Unicorn.
I love 08th MS Team, War in the Pocket is well done, and 0083 is basically Top Gun(dam)... mindless plot but fuck awesome animation and action.
You get a better understanding of one of main characters in Unicorn by watching the Zetas in addition to the original MSG trilogy.
I thought that Unicorn was supposed to be the first in the series, from a continuity point of view, but they reference the One Year War and Char and all that stuff.
Anyway, recommend me some more Gundam to watch now. I'm not sure if I'd be able to take the original series at this point, sorry. I have read the Viz Comics cel comic adaption of Stardust Memory and saw a lot of Wing back in the CN days, but didn't care much for the latter.
Also still have Code Geass ready to be watched...Waiting for the DVD here since I don't own a Triple and don't pirate shit.
GIVE IN TO THE DARK SIDE. You're buying it anyway...watching it early is just like a preview! 8) One that will run at a higher resolution than the DVD you're going to buy. :pimp

Might as well ask this here...what's some good anime for someone that doesn't like anime? I went through Cowboy Bebop a little while back and that was pretty cool. Don't know where else to go though (think I've watched a bit of Ninja Scrolls but can't remember if I liked it or not...)

The continuity is:
First Gundam (the original show)
MS Igloo 1 & 2 (take place concurrently with the original show)
The 8th MS Team (ditto)
War in the Pocket (takes place in the last weeks of the One Year War)
Zeta Gundam
Gundam ZZ
Char's Counterattack
Gundam Unicorn (takes place a couple of years after Char's Counterattacks, but the plotline centers around the origins of the UC timeline)
Gundam F91
Crossbone Gundam (manga only but one of the most popular spin-offs)
V Gundam
The other Gundam series are all alternate universes that take place outside the original timeline.
To get a good sense of Unicorn's background, I would recommend the original Gundam movie trilogy, the Zeta movies (if you can torrent them), and Char's Counterattack. You can get all the info you need from Wikipedia, though, if you don't want to go through all those.
As far as quality, my personal favorite series are MS Igloo, War in the Pocket, and The 8th MS Team. They're also great in that you can enjoy them without having to know all the background about Gundam and worrying about missed references. They work great as stand-alone series, they are fun to watch, and they are relatively short. MS IGloo is six eps, War in the Pocket is four, and 8th MS Team is 13. I don't really recommend 0083 unless you're a mecha animation freak - the animation is glorious, the designs are cool, but the story is just nonsensical if you're not a Gundam otaku since it's meant to tie in the original show with the events of Zeta and ZZ.
It has the best female Gundam character, though - Cima Garahau, the Mayfly of Space.
I LOVE U CIMA

Planetes? It's refreshing seeing hard science in anime. It does have some wacky jappy moments, though.

Wow, Gundam Unicorn episode 1 was so amazing. Absolutely epic in every way and totally lacking in the sort of lame hijinks that so many mecha shows have wallowed in recently. I can't believe that there are going to be FIVE MORE episodes like this!!

Too bad we'll probably never see English versions of MS Igloo 2 now, thanks to Honneamise folding. :(
Trigun with good animation? Should be good.
I have a 2 week trial of netflix and I finally started watching GitS: Stand Alone Complex. It's in english, but the voices seem alright. It's cool so far, dunno why I've never watched it after all these years.

Review
"Verdict - 9.6
A diabolically epic story.
+ An anti-hero you can't take your eyes off of.
+ Osamu Tezuka. (Need we say more?)
- Possibly Tezuka's bleakest work yet." - Anime media network.
"Created during the period of 1976-1978 MW is a shocker, especially for it's time, both in terms of the potential for terrorism and the phsychological effects on the reader, who, in some cultures, might not easily adapt to this nature of storytelling (for example, what would Hollywood do with this plot?)" - www.anime.com
"MW is a story that will make you think, and will probably make you unhappy about a segment of mankind, and will thrill you in ways that feel uncomfortable. It’s a major graphic novel by a major creator, grappling with the nature of evil in a way that superhero comics only wish they could. And it’s presented in a form nearly transparent to Western readers. From what I’ve seen, Tezuka’s dark works of the ‘60s and ‘70s are easily his best, and MW is right up there." - ComicMix
"The author shrewdly reveals through these characters the vulnerability of human beings and the concept of latent "original sin" that lurks inside us." - Brian Cirulnick --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
Product Description
Comics god Osamu Tezuka's darkest work, MW is a chilling picaresque of evil. Steering clear of the supernatural as well as the cuddly designs and slapstick humor that enliven many of Tezuka's better-known works, MW explores a stark modern reality where neither divine nor secular justice seems to prevail. This willfully "anti-Tezuka" achievement from the master's own pen nevertheless pulsates with his unique genius.
Michio Yuki has it all: looks, intelligence, a pedigree as the scion of a famous Kabuki family, a promising career at a major bank, legions of female admirers. But underneath the sheen of perfection lurks a secret with the power to shake the world to its foundations.
During a boyhood excursion to one of the southern archipelagos near Okinawa, Yuki barely survived exposure to a poison gas stored at a foreign military facility. The leakage annihilated all of the island's inhabitants but was promptly covered up by the authorities, leaving Yuki as an unacknowledged witness--one whose sense of right and wrong, however, the potent nerve agent managed to obliterate.
Now, fifteen years later, Yuki is a social climber of Balzacian proportions, infiltrating the worlds of finance and politics by day while brutally murdering children and women by night--perversely using his Kabuki-honed skills as a female impersonator to pass himself off as the women he's killed. His drive, however, will not be satiated with a promotion here and a rape there. Michio Yuki has a far more ominous objective: obtaining MW, the ultimate weapon that spared his life but robbed him of all conscience.
There are only two men with any hope of stopping him: one, a brilliant public prosecutor who struggles to build a case against the psychopath; the other, a tormented Catholic priest, Iwao Garai, who shares Yuki'ls past--and frequently his bed.
Serialized beginning in 1976 in Big Comic magazine, where Tezuka's trailblazing medical thriller Ode to Kirihito had appeared a few years earlier, MW probes the complexities of homoeroticism as well as the reality of extensive U.S. military presence in Japan. The result is as bracing today as it was thirty years ago.

People have suggested Jojo's to me before but...I've never read or seen any of it.
wait, so this Trigun movie based on the manga? Vash's gun design there is from the manga, not the anime.
I haven't caught up on Yotsuba... I haven't read FMA or Claymore. Guess I'll start with those.
btw...
I just recently read one of the best graphic novels I've had the pleasure of reading.
MW by Tezuka.

Amazing story and as usual it is filled with beautiful, beautiful drawings that light my eyes up. Highly suggested. It costs like 13 bucks on Amazon and it's worth it.
Much darker than his usual offerings, too.
From Amazon:QuoteReview

Summer Wars is outto. You know Ladies vs Butlers isn't bad at all, it's very entertaining and it seems like there is less fanservice now, which is surprising.
Got my copy of Evangelion 1.11 on Bru-Ray early. Are you ready to get your existentialism on for the angstiest anime event of the year?! :violin
So going by that chart, Durara should be ending soon? Anyone still watching it? Is it awesome?
People have suggested Jojo's to me before but...I've never read or seen any of it.himu jojo has like seven story arcs,if you just need to pick a single one, just pick the third one,it's the one most known and the better one,and really you don't need to know much about the previous two
I still can't believe there is going to be an anime that takes place during the Japanese occupation of Nanking. I told my wife about that and she was morbidly curious. What is it called?

heck there is even a capcom fighting game about the third story arc
durarara is excellent
also GG stopped subbing it at 6 (translator/group drama?) and now its BSS subbing which is equally good
Sorry but I'm a beginning to end guy.
It makes no sense skipping to the third arc. It'd be like skipping straight to Jinchuu arc when reading Kenshin.

When they brought the series out in English, Viz Comics skipped right to the third arc for volume 1. :lol
But I'd like to read JoJo's from the beginning myself.
Summer Wars got me back in the mood for some fun people anime. Are there any good shows like Honey & Clover or Nodame in the last few years that are just about people hanging out? I don't want any ecchi or harem stuff. Just something like H&C or Bokura Ga Ita and not boring like Clannad.
try Natsume Yuujinchou and Kimi ni Todoke.
magus, what kind of recommendation you want?

Try Hanamaru Kindergarten from the current season. Pretty light-hearted stuff.

That doesn't make it any less awesome though.
You might try Aria. It's not quite what you're looking for, but it's one of the best slice of life shows I've seen and it's at least not about little kids.
uh, have you seen Genshiken, bebpo?
I'm weary about recommending ookiku furikabutte because it didn't fly last time, but that is a baseball/slice of life anime.

I watched the first episode, didn't watch beyond that.
I googled the trailer for this and sometimes you really scare me, Lyte.
Genshiken manga is probably better than the anime, actually. Anime mostly just has updated fanservice, like Etrian Odyssey noises coming from the DS, them playing Guilty Gear, cosplay of more modern characters, etc. Plus the anime isn't complete and skips a bunch of stuff in the second season.

I tried Aria back in the day because the director was somebody legit, but the first ep or two were tremendously sleep-inducing boring.
I should get around to watching Genshiken. I saw a few eps but never watched the whole thing. Is the anime better than the manga? I'd rather read it I think. What about Welcome to NHK? I never saw that but I remember it getting some buzz like Genshiken did.
Baka test - Was terrible. The jokes were sometimes funny, but the art is ugly and the summon battle shit is horrible. I had to turn this off before it ended.

The first episode is okay, but it gets better as it goes. And the summon battle stuff usually comes up during the last minute and is most often used as a joke.
I'm sorry babe :(it's ok hon.
You guys better read Junketsu no Maria.
watched more ep1sat least you figured it out early lol, i watched whole season 2 and thought it was just one season.
Natsume Yuujinchou - so it turns out that I had watched the first ep of of season 2 yesterday. But it seemed just like a 1st ep of show so I couldn't even tell wtfff. Stupid anime making "seasons" (that aren't actually called "season" but have like 1 word different in the title) now instead of just making EP27-52 like back in the day. I you were watching ep27 you would not think it was the first ep! Anyhow it was good.
2-to-1 in favor of Baka To Test not being that great. Sorry Rumbler, U LOSE.spoiler (click to show/hide):patel[close]

yeah I didn't wait. I skipped DTB2 because it looked dumb! But I figure I should at least give ep1 a chance at this point.DTB2 is good but like most animu shows it ends with derp ending that leaves more questions unanswered.
I did enjoy the OAV ep1 though and will watch the rest of the OAV.
some other shows worth a watch if you haven't already:
Akagi - can't watch an anime if I don't like the art; don't like this style
Kaiji - same; watched ep1 back in the day
Casshern SINS (emo warning) - watched a few eps, was slow & boring
Gunparade March - watched this
Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora (derp love drama) -never heard of it, will check it out
Juuousei (can get homo at times) -saw it; was kind of awesome until the ending that was terrible
Minami-ke (my favorite slice of life, just avoid season 2) -heard of it, never checked it out. Will grab ep1
Moyashimon (only watched 1st episode but heard good things about it) -Saw ep1 when it aired; was ok but wasn't a fan
Sorcerer Stabber Orphen (very old fantasy show, one of my favorite thanks to that launch ps2 game) -yeah, saw some of this in the 90s, lol
Starship Operators (crazy girl space tactics) saw ep1, didn't like
True Tears (derp love drama) watched this. Don't even remember it
Zettai Shonen (only liked the first half) I think I saw ep1, didn't leave much of an impression

None of the characters are likeable.
How is Bakuman?i like it,it's about two guys trying to making it big in the manga industry and the problems they end up facing while trying to create a big hit
Bebpo, Akagi and Kaiji are like...the best animu ever.
just try to swallow the long noses and all artstyle for an episode or two and you will get hooked fast, it was like One Piece for me, weird artstyle at first but fuck that THIS IS AMAZING.
also, did you watch Seirei no Moribito? I didn't like it but same author/studio made another animu called Kemono no Souja Erin and it ended recently at 50 episodes, might wanna give it a try.
Episode 9 of Baka to Test was hilarious. :rock

also, Hunter X hunter > Naruto by a mile.

bakemonogatari is super pretentious.
Summer Wars. DVD and BD. August 24. $24.98 DVD, $39.98 BD. No distributor listed.
Xam'd. Episode 1-13. DVD $49.98, BD $99.98. August 10. Sony.
I started the disc by choosing the Japanese option (I haven't tried either English or French, yet). BD-Live's menu has "What's New", "Special Contents", "FAQ", "My Favorite", and "Information." The "Information" menu provides download options for a Gundam 00 trailer that runs 1:06 (which I'm presuming is for the movie, since there's something there that I don't recall having seen before), a VOTOMS trailer that's about the same length, a Tales of Vesperia trailer (1:41 long), a very short M(ai/y)-HiME BD trailer, and a very short Zeta HiME BD trailer.
Now to look at the English side of things... Select BD-Live... The menu options there are "What's New", "Special Contents" (all Gundam UC promotional stuff), "FAQ" (which contains nothing), and the empty "My Favorite" screen.
you want to talk about delay, let's talk about Hellsing OAV and how they are stalled now at the BEST PART because they don't know how they can ANIMATE THE BEST PART in ep8 because it's too crazy and expensive to animate.
Apparently ep8 will never come out :(
Bepbo, you didn't watch Gundam UC when it leaked to web, right? I'm so glad I waited until I got the blu-ray...

I don't think Bandai or anyone in the industry or fans of the industry really care if anyone downloads anime or buys it.
That ship sailed about 10 years ago. Companies don't expect their viewers to actually pay for their anime. If they do it's a bonus.
Here is my problem with it-- Unicorn is $34.99 on Blu-Ray, for one (long) episode. I can get entire anime TV series on Blu-Ray for $38-$40. Price this stuff better and I will buy, animu companies; it's getting to the point now where HD rips are out before the domestic releases.
And PLEASE tell me Gundam Unicorn doesn't go for 6000 yen in Japan. PLEASE. :lol

Nozomi Entertainment, the anime production arm of the online retailer Right Stuf, has announced on Wednesday that it has licensed the Dirty Pair television anime series. The anime follows the misadventures of the Lovely Angels — two teenaged galactic private investigators named Kei and Yuri who solve mysteries, but often leave chaos and wanton destruction in their wake. The 24 television episodes and two specials will come in two DVD collections, each of which will retail for US$49.99. The first DVD collection is slated for a late Fall 2010 release. The DVDs will include remastered video from the Japanese DVD release and Japanese audio with English subtitles.

Railgun is such a bland show, I wish I'd dumped it after the first few episodes. INSTEAD, I stuck with it hoping that it would get good as the series progressed. It didn't, and by the time I finally accepted this fact I was already more than halfway through and so I felt obliged to finished it up.

Someone already ripped and fansubbed the TV series (really, really well, too), but I will probably get this. Is that $49.99 for 12 episodes of an old-ass 80's series on DVD though? What the fuck are they thinking?

it's all bebpo's fault.
What's the difference between the two Fullmetal Alchemist series? Himuro told me the newer one is just like a reboot or something. I'm sure it's shit, but how do I discern the two?
A series I really love the idea of (but only ever seen a few episodes) is Case Closed/Detective Boy Conan. Is it worth seeking out?
show: LOL UR SO SHORT ED SO FUN KNEEhow is this any different than old full metal?
me: *closes window*
how is this any different than old full metal?
next youll be playing sengoku rance for the gameplay or reading fate/stay night and skipping every 4 hour in sex scene
Haha. I'm not denying my homojapual self, but I'm surprised I like it period. It reminds of Yu Yu Hakusho. Both are very similar.NO THEYRE NOT
Yeah, the manga is like that.how is this any different than old full metal?
It's all in the tone. They certainly didn't replicate these jokes ad nauseum in the original show. Then again I haven't read the manga.
And I liked the second half of FMA a lot at the time. I was 17.

Okay, the initial setup is similar, but that's where the similarities end. Once they stop with the Hollow attacking humans bullshit and get to the main plot, it's nothing like Yu Yu Hakusho.Haha. Dude, yes they are.
Main character is a guy that gets bullied and/or picks fights? Check.
Rough young man, who could be considered a delinquent? Check.
Girl in class has a crush on him? Check.
Single parent household? Check.
Revolves around death, cute death gods, mysteries, the occult and somehow turn it into a villain of the week shounen formula? Check.
They are so so so similar it's not funny.
I'm not talking about quality, but damn if some plot details from Bleach don't remind me of Yu Yu.
Oh. I'm still at the beginning, so forgive me.Btw, wtf at that pic that someone posted in the GAF thread of Yusuke with white hair? I guess I never got that far. :lol

Okay, the initial setup is similar, but that's where the similarities end. Once they stop with the Hollow attacking humans bullshit and get to the main plot, it's nothing like Yu Yu Hakusho.
wat, that was kinda funny!eh...
wat, that was kinda funny!for once i agree with bebpo.

Mr. Gundam, do you know about Gundam Sousei?

I stumbled across it the other day. Never heard of it before. It's a manga about the making of the original Gundam and Tomino beats the shit out of his actors

I checked that out last night. I laughed when the g-armor was mentioned. Since watching unicorn I have been rewatching old UC Gundam shows slowly (in the middle of Zeta now) and no g-defender in the movies (or a lot of the other gimmicky stuff). I'm also remembering how the first half of Zeta is people getting slapped, punched, or stealing mobile suits in plain sight. You'd think they would put Katz on a leash at some point.
08th ms owns so hard
romeo and juliet hath invaded my gundamu
The three things I remember most about 8th MS Team
1) Gouf Custom
2) beam saber to melt ice
3) A BALL DEFEATS A ZAKU WTF
8th MS Team is still one of the very best Gundam animus.

Definitely. I'd be interested to see how things would've gone if the director hadn't passed away, though.

I'm in the middle of watching Zeta myself. I laughed so hard when Wong Lee beat the crap out of Kamille, and everybody just kinda walks away like "Welp, nothing to see here, just a civilian beating the tar out of our 15 yr old ace pilot for being late to a meeting." And then they're like "This is the military, and this is how things are done." Really? That's standard military procedure? :lol

the best is when they start expecting to be beaten when they make a mistake. There is one point when Katz is just like "c'est la vie, let's get this over with" and doesn't get his (he totally deserves to get smacked around).
my favorite is probably Kamille's dad. Mention his mistress and you get it across the face.
That Commando bump got me thinking maybe it's time this thread was retired. It's got almost two years worth of posts now. Who wants to make a new thread?
