He also said PS3's replaced Wii as the casual go to based on Wonderbook sales.  Everybody has their own lens.

sold about half of CoDBlops Vita stand-alone SKU.

haha, holy shit.  How did ACIII Wii U compare to the Liberation stand-alone?  Guessing it did even worse, given the wider gap in release timing.

I wonder what the sales-age meltdown will be for the first DD-only console. Will be nice not having to question how much a game sold retail vs. DD again.

That would not be an incorrect guess.  Liberation approximately 4x the WiiU AC3.  And again, I have to stress - that Liberation number already ain't pretty.

I guess you can give the WiiU this: the WiiU version of Sonic Racing handily outsold the 360/PS3 versions, by double in the 360's case and triple in the PS3's.  All three each sold under 20k units.

I find that disheartening. Not the bad Wii U stuff, mind you, but the Sonic Racing numbers. It's a good kart racer.

They should just sell the series to Nintendo. :teehee

I have Generations on PC but I can't run it yet so I'd be interested in a half-price Wii U version.

So they published Ninja Gaiden because...?

I'm sure Sonic would be more than gravy. The merchandising alone could be massive, and I have a feeling they'd like to take a crack at revitalizing interest in him in Japan.

I mean if they can take Kid Icarus from total no-name to 3DS-seller...

Man imagine if Ninja gaidens license was sold to Nintendo.  Retro would make the game.  And it will be 2.5d sidescroller.

Where did they publish Ninja Gaiden?

Nintendo published Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge in all regions outside Japan.

Anyway, Sonic would be useless to Nintendo.  Kid Icarus, they found a way to fit him into a genre where they didn't have much.  Sonic's just another colorful platformer mascot.  Nintendo needs another one of those like they need another way to region lock something.

So are you saying they'd go for it or not? I'm getting mixed signals. :P

Sonic Ep2 seemed like shit.

But better shit than Ep1.

I still don't get why they didn't actually make a "whole" Sonic 4 and release it as "New Sonic the Hedgehog" or something, physical + digital. Somebody at Sega must have known calling it Sonic 4 would be trolling all the old school fans they had been trying to recapture lately and the episodic packaging doesn't work if you're going to change engines for every release and only release an ep whenever you feel like it with no rhyme or reason.

And of course the engine change meant they couldn't even release it on WiiWare, which I'm sure constituted if not a majority of Ep 1's sales then at least a healthy amount of them.

Can't say I feel bad for Sega though, Ep 1 was such a trainwreck in motion anyone sensible could have seen it was going to be crap before release. (Actually, some did, which resulted in the game getting delayed and the minecart crap getting taken out. :lol)

Sonic CD has more right to call itself Sonic 4 really. Makes me doubt there will ever be a Sonic 5; if they have to have a new numbered game I imagine they'll call it Sonic 4 and pretend the episodic abortion never happened.

Its going to be real rough once the 720 and PS4 come out to mediocrity too. A lot of western companies don't seem to be ready for such an event and are being in denial that next gen will somehow save the industry and return them to their PS2 glory days. No one seems willing to admit that the market has fragmented too much to keep up the current console business plan and that video games at a whole are losing out to various other forms of entertainment (shoe on the other foot, etc). Its going to be real rough unless something big changes.

I think it's going to be fine. The overall market is still expanding and it will continue to do so. Publishers just have to find the right approaches for the new environment. Free to play, online multiplayer, and DLC aren't the solutions for every genre.

Exactly. The publishers and developers that have folded this year bet on the wrong horse or just couldn't keep up with new technology and trends. I guess plastic peripherals, mediocre Call of Duty clones, and 7+ year dev cycles isn't the way to go.

Seems like the action plan during the early psp days was to dust off some of the old big franchises from the ps1 era that weren't quite working out on PS2, then as time went on, bring more PS2 and even a few PS3 franchises on it.  Vita seemed to avoid this, relying more on PS3 IPs than anything else.

I finally took some time to really look over the last NPD numbers.  Man, the WiiU is a joke.  Like, as craptacular as the PS Vita big hitters did (and man did they do craptacular, weep for P4), they outsold almost everything on the WiiU.  The PS3 version of Blops 2 literally sold more than 100x the WiiU version.

Tales of the Abyss 3DS did 45k iirc, did P4G at least outsell that?

It had super low print runs initially, as did a lot of 3rd party 3DS games in late 2011/early 2012.  Sonic Generations and Skylanders in particular were basically sold out for months.

the reason why handhelds are failing is because you can pay $40 for FIFA 13 on vita or 3Ds or you can pay $10 for it on iOS and its literally the same game just not as pretty and with touch controls. They need to reduce the price of games.

Mostly the pricing model and accompanying game design of iOS/Android is what makes that whole mobile future iffy to me.  Pay 99 cents and deal with in app purchases and boosters and all that.  When TWEWY is considered expensive at under $20, I dunno, that's a weird concept of value.  Though I think that sold well so what am I even saying.

While waiting for the Individual Format charts ( i.e.: While waiting for the Chart Track site to work again..seriously, look http://www.chart-track.co.uk/ ) It's working now, but no new chart so far.

Ukie All Formats Top 40 available

Ubisoft end the year on a high as ‘Far Cry 3’ claims No1, pushing Call of Duty: Black Ops II’ (-48%) down to No3. It’s the publisher’s first No1 in the last week of the year since the original Assassin’s Creed topped the chart back in W52 2007. Ubisoft also lay claim to the most Top 10 charting titles this week with 3 thanks to ‘Just Dance 4’ (-53%) and ‘Assassin’s Creed III’ (-34%) both only slipping one place, to No6 and No8 respectively. ‘FIFA 13’ (+1%) climbs 2 places to No2 with its highest ever weekly sales outside of the first 3 weeks. ‘Hitman Absolution’ (-40%) falls one place to No4 ahead of ‘Need for Speed: Most Wanted’ (-13%) which is up one place to No5. ‘Halo 4’ (-24%) finishes at No7, but Microsoft have another Top 10 title this week thanks to retailer promotion on ‘Forza Horizon’ (+30%) which helps it race from No21 to No10.

@Oscar: Thanks...but IIRC TotA was reported at about 45k in May, while it launched in February. Shouldn't it be around 50k-55k now? it wouldn't be a bad result, not that far from the original TotA on PS2. Here's the LTD for other Tales of in US

as i said, i was away from my numbers, so i was just confirming that p4 wasn't close to 45k.  abyss is a bit higher than that now.  your estimate is fairly close.

Thanks again! So, not a bad result for Abyss 3D in the end.
I can't say I don't hope to see a mainline Tales of on 3DS in the next future. Right now it makes sense on both the sides

1)East: 3DS is THE console right now, it showed it can sell third party software of several types despite KH3D's fail ( but Bravely Default makes up for that XD ), and it has a bright future in the country, so a mainline title should be a given.
2)West: Nintendo's push made Symphonia the best selling Tales of in US by far, almost 500k sold. It's also due to Gamecube's limited JRPG lineup, but probably a mainline Tales of on 3DS would be a good opportunity for Nintendo to bring back that kind of push, helping Namco too in establishing the brand here again.

I hope we'll see it in the future.
