Doesn't the license expire this year? One of the moderators over at NeoGAF made a thread about it recently.

Edit: Here is a link to the thread I was thinking of: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=67696226

The 360 version isn't immune to crashes either (I beat it yesterday and it froze on me 3 times), but there's nothing as bad as that. Turning off the screen shake is supposed to help with the crashes & framerate if you've been playing it.

in the ps3 version, once you reach a certain level, the framerate frequently drops to the single digits and the game crashes constantly.  they've said they're working on a patch, but I don't think it's out yet.  probably too late to salvage the game's sales, though.  i'd be surprised if even a quarter of the people who bought the ps3 version haven't already sold it to the shop.

Fortunately the hardware’s focus on accessibility and familiarity made it easy to incorporate indies. Quote
“To quote Nintendo during E3, 'software sells hardware', which is evident in this month's 3DS results. Strong double-digit increases in the 3DS hardware sales were coupled with triple-digit digit increases in software for June sales. 3DS software sales momentum is building due to a steady flow of content over the past few months, leading to positive year-to-date sales results,” NPD analyst Liam Callahan said. “Animal Crossing: New Leaf also sold well in the context of first-party games for the 3DS, having the third highest first-month sales next to two launches from holiday 2011: Mario Kart 7, and Super Mario 3D Land.”

One new piece of hardware NPD started tracking this past month was Ouya. It's been a slow uptake, however. "June 2012 was the first month of retail sales for Ouya (not counting direct sales through ouya.tv) and were relatively light for a new console," Callahan added. "This may be due to the lack of a major marquee title driving consumers to seek out the console, low awareness due to Ouya being a new brand, or low inventory volume due to manufacturing constraints.”

Callahan also put some context around Naughty Dog's hit, The Last of Us: “The Last of Us was the top selling game at retail in the month of June. To put this in context, it had the second highest first-month sales of a PS3 first-party game, after God of War 3 in March 2010. The Last of Us was also the third highest game to launch during the month of June since NPD began tracking sales in 1995.”

Last of Us didn't beat GOW3 numbers but still did well for itself (and excluding digital sales, etc)

minecraft 360 retail sold ~350k.  wild considering it's the late retail version of an already successful digital game that's a gimped late port of a successful PC game.

I haven't really been following for a while, but why does PS3 sell so bad in the US?  I would have thought high sales of TLoU would have at least pushed it ahead of Xbox this month.

Would you rather post at a forum where guys like that can keep pooping up verbal diarrhea unchecked, and someone like me gets banned for calling amirox a big blubbering vag?  Or hang with the cool kids?

it sells that bad everywhere right now.  The hardware market is kaput right now.  New systems are announced, dated, and priced.

Software is dead for the most part, too.  TLoU sold well to the Uncharted crowd, but the thing about them is, they already have PS3s.

It doesn't help that the prices for the systems are still high at this point in their life cycle

Kind of makes me wonder if PS4's advantages are even enough to get it in the household compared to Xbox.  I didn't realize how bad the PS3 name was in the US.  I kind of thought it did shitty for years but now was about on par, if not better, than the X360.  But it looks like PS3 is 2nd class citizen in the west.  Gonna be hard to turn that mentality around with the new systems imo.

The only time brands mean anything is when all other factors are equal.  In that case, the reigning champion usually wins again.

So this means Playstation will win 4 gens in a row?  :o
