I'll handle this, Andy. What did you guys expect? I don't know what's up with all these third parties releasing shoddy ports, but if you're not going to treat Wii U customers well, they're not going to buy your game. And when you leave out absolutely critical functionality like local co-op, what do you expect?
This better be a GAF repost.

Well, it's not, but I was of course being sarcastic all the same.

Monster Hunter 4 sold over 2 million in its first four days.  Pretty much cemented now as Japan's new DQ.  Capcom's gotta be loving that.

Just wanna know when is this gonna hit stateside before picking up a 3ds

Have any of the console entries sold more than Tri (WW and JP)? (Honestly asking.)

Probably MH2, maybe? Frontier?

Did it surpass 3G's LTD in those 4 days? Anyhow, I'm really glad the series and now its fans are proving to be platform agnostic— that should put a lot of dumb arguments to rest.

No, Tri sold the most of the home versions.  The takeaway here is that, like Animal Crossing, the home console fanbase for the series just isn't as strong as the portable fanbase, and thus, consoles should be relegated to side versions and/or HD ports.

Agreed.

Wherever 4 HD ends up, it absolutely must have save syncing with the 3DS version. It would be Wii U/PS4/Xbone but that feature is absolutely crucial for me in MH3U. I'd probably have played it about 50% less without that feature.

Then again, I play it on Wii U mostly for online, and MH4 already has online... hmm. Dunno how that will shake out that.

Hopefully 8-4 gets it over here ASAP.

i'm sure the next project is basically MH4G

MH4, even early on, destroys MH3G and i'm glad skipping it (despite buying it multiple times) made everything feel fresher, but truth is that it does feel a darn sight different.

I'm not rushing things - basically this is a 1000+ hour experience so there's no point getting too het up about progress. So far, 8 hours on the clock and the HR1 dosjaggi fight with base armour and weaponry was ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG levels of brilliant. It's hard to put into words why it's so much better, but there was more cat and mouse chasing, the variable height adds a ton of different tactics, the Jaggi bolting through a column and smashing it was :O, my two cats jumping on it and holding on for deal life as it swung to throw them off.... droooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool.

Game is solid sold out in shinjuku, aki, shibuya and my local town. No second hand versions either. Places are pushing the download cards and people are gobbling them up (apparently most downloaded game to date already)

There's always a lot of fear for me with games like this and my initial reaction to this project was that there was a lot of ways they could screw this up, but as long as it doesn't screw things up from this point onwards? yeah - they nailed this +++. The already easy Story mode seems to have been made even easier (e.g. DosJaggi HR1 fight - 18 mins vs 2* story battle - 5 mins) and that's a good thing.

The biggest problem that the game as is the amount of text and the super annoying interuptions up until a certain point in the game. But hey - even that's shutting up. Plus no forced weapon tutorial! Huzzah based capgods!

Can't stop thinking about it... want to get my hunt on.

Namely that the PS2 was already out.

I don't think it will sell well at all. The Wii U is still not an attractive console for the mainstream audience and releasing an enhanced port of a ten year old game isn't going to change that.

I think it will do well.  The userbase is absolutely starved for content and if the new Zelda isn't coming out until late 2014 or 2015, then I can see people say, "I'll replay Celda HD to tide myself over."  By well, I mean well by Wii U standards, so 1-2 million copies over time, but for an almost full priced remake, that should be pretty good.

First month or LTD?  I think it'll do about a million over time.  First month?  Maybe 200kish?  Digital launching early is going to bleed off a lot of first-month physical sales.

it'll be interesting to see that digital vs retail split.  releasing early digitally is a good idea, and game fans are nothing if not impatient.

In the US?  2.5 million.  WW?  Like 5 million?  Wait, are we supposed to just be guessing for NA?

No I was thinking WW. I'm not sure what to think about its potential -- the Wii U has a small base but there may be some strong nostalgia/loyalty there.

Quote
After five days on sale in launch week it is already the 24th biggest-selling game ever in the UK. Breaking that down, it's the 11th biggest on Xbox 360 and 10th biggest on PlayStation 3. Xbox 360 accounted for 57 per cent of sales, PS3 43 per cent.

More astonishing figures: GTA5's launch week was 2.4 times greater than GTA4's. It shifted almost 250,000 more units than previous record-holder, 2010's Call of Duty: Black Ops.

see the thing is

i hesitate to even slap the game journalist tag onto feit

he's a game journalist like i'm a professional weightlifter

it's not his job, he does it somewhat infrequently, and he's got little interest in it beyond using it as an excuse to socialize.

Yeah, I've only met the guy in passing, but he certainly seems to show up at dev gatherings. I'm never comfortable drinking with journos unless I know they're not going to publish without permission.
