The Bone is Microsoft's last console. Even during the 360 heyday, Microsoft had to defend keeping the Xbox 360 around to shareholders. It just isn't a big money maker.
Sony as a whole has yet to get out of junk bond status even though PS4 is doing well.
This is still the last console generation.
All it takes is Microsoft hitting the panic button and going for "If it works on Windows 10, it works on Xbox and vice versa" and consoles are done. Good fucking luck to Sony if they think they can pull "It can also be on PC but Linux Only" because Valve fucked up and Khronos group are playing politics again with Vulkan (This time the wheel is on "Nvidia's fault" and will spin around to AMD or Intel come GDC when they announce another delay)
I've re-read this multiple times and still can't garner what the fuck you mean.
Valve is fighting with Vulcan? Where's ambassador Spock?
So you're saying MS will just repackage consoles as pcs? Is that what you're saying?
Just really confusing post.
Yes. I just mean MS and Sony and Nintendo will repackage consoles as PC's. Or to make a non-distinguished mentally-challenged less buzzword version
Microsoft are in a position where everything on xbone can be made available on PC and every future Xbox just be a W10 PC with Xbox branding that runs anything you throw at it would be a viable option. They would lose revenue in license fees from 3rd party publishers outside of their own store but it would give them control of the core gaming ecosystem and the final "Fuck you" to Sony and Nintendo who would have no response option other than to start moneyhatting everything in comparison to MS getting games on their console by default or just give up and go to PC. Consumers would then have the choice of buying a console (Which at that point, USB-C Thunderbolt ports may have taken off and it would be feasible to "Upgrade" your console components with a co-processing unit like Razer Core) or building their own gaming system.
Vulkan is a competing API to Direct X and supposedly the silver bullet that would "make linux gaming popular" by the company that created OpenGL. The final version been constantly delayed and the developer has a bad habit of blaming everyone but themselves for it (Recently they are claiming Nvidia hasn't made a back end for it and Nvidia's claiming Vulkan is nowhere near release ready). It has no release in sight and games using it are not likely to appear till late 2017/18.
With Valve made their own Linux OS. It's terrible and a bad advertisement for linux gaming (You can get much lighter and better distros) on top of people's waning trust of Valve's brand. If Sony started moneyhatting 3rd party exclusives with "Only on Linux" in response to Microsoft tearing down the wall between PC and Xbox. No sane publisher or developer would agree to it and it would destroy the concept of 3rd party exclusives.
In summary. There is no option but to adopt PC gaming in the future from a practical and financial standpoint. If Microsoft starts killing the distinction between console and PC. It's going to force a massive change for the entire industry and focus it towards the PC gaming model as traditional locked down ecosystem consoles wouldn't be able to survive against a model where you can just play anything, anywhere.
And Mobile Gaming still will be a beast
