Title: Fuck the movies
Post by: TVC15 on June 30, 2007, 04:27:26 PM
I wanted to go to the movies today to see something.  Nothing in particular, just had the urge for the theatre experience.  I pull up Fandango and eyeball the prospects.

1408 - Cusack and a good-not-great Stephen King story.  The movie seems to be getting decent reviews.  The trailer showed a bit too much, but hey, what trailer doesn't?  Studios can't do anything right.  Unfortunately, the nearest joint it's showing at has appeared to stagger its viewings, likely so it could use its theatre to show something potentially bigger during the viewing hours when it is not showing.  There are only 2 showings left today, one at 4ish, and another at 830.  Both times are inconvenient for me.

Live Free or Die Hard - I won't endorse this with my money.

Evan Almighty - I'm getting tired of Steve Carell.  Well, I mean, thats not the only reason to write this one off.  We all know it's an insipid feel good family shitbucket devised to reel in turd-munching middle American flies.  But Steve Carell, I dunno.  I don't like him any more.  Cachet, sunk, and luckily this movie will make it difficult for him to get more big roles in flicks.  Also, The Office season 3 blew nuts.  You know in your heart that it is true.

Fantastic Four 2 - I was a defender of the first one. . .but only because I got to see it for free.  Looking at the reviews and hearing Will proclaim it as better than Spider-Man 3, I have been lead to believe that the movie's entertainment value is somewhere between drowning in a pit of glue and getting to be ManaByte's fluffer during the filming of The Phantom Anus.

Ocean's Thirteen -  Soderbergh is a terrible filmmaker.  I could do a little rant on him, but why bother when the subject matter is something that can be as easily sniped as a new lousy Ocean's movie?  The first two movies sucked, and sequels usually get worse.  Stupid Hollywood vanity pictures.  These movies are almost as bad as Mr. and Mrs. Smith (one of the worse movies I have ever seen).

Knocked Up - Becoming a candidate.  For whatever reason I don't really see this as a theatre movie.  I very rarely go to theatres, and when I do go, I want spectacle.  No knock, I am sure it is great.

Pirates 3 - LOL.

Shrek 3 - See Ocean's Thirteen.  If the first two movies sucked, the third one is likely to suck even moreso.

Ratatouille - I want to see this so very badly.  What's the problem?  Never, *ever* go to a movie marketed at kids on opening weekend.  Children are revolting creatures, only slightly less revolting than their asshole, undisciplining parents.  If I went to see this during opening weekend, there would be children yelling, screaming, crying, pissing, puking, and shitting in the aisles; asshole parents not doing a thing, gabbing on their cell phones, thinking that they have paid 10 dollars for some sort of playground access or babysitting service.  Ratatouille is probably a great movie, but access to movie theatres should be confined to only people that are 18 or older, and have never had children.  Thank you, culture of breeding, for ruining a potentially great movie-watching experience.

Knocked Up isn't really bad to watch in the theater.  I watched it last friday and sunday and the sunday show was funner to watch even though the theater was so packed that we had to sit in the very front row.  It's a relationship comedy so there's no point in watching it in silence.

If I am going to the movies, I want to see something special. . .in a very literal fence.  I want a feast for the eyes.  And unless Jay Baruchel gets naked, Knocked Up doesn't offer that.

Man, what the fuck happened to joox?  I hate searching around for shit on stage6.  Also TVC, see if you can catch a midnight or so showing of Ratatouille, the little viruses should be safely at home tucked away then.

i've read on gaf that it's pretty noticable that they cut out some stuff in favour of its pg-13 rating and that some of it looks so weird because of that.

Oh fuck off man.  You're way too critical, and this thread is laughable man.  Just go see a fucking movie and get it over with, nothing is going to blow you away.  Being so picky about going to see movies is awfully pathetic.

Wow, the thread is laughable!  I wonder if that was my intention?

Office peaked (so far) in season 2.  Season 3 started cranking the outlandish stuff that I didn't even like in season 2 (ie.  the distinguished mentally-challenged foot getting stuck in the Foreman grill, which is where I see the trend towards over-the-top sillines as beginning).

Truth be told, I gave up after February, so I haven't even seen the ending.

I can't believe people even bother with the American version of the office.  I don't rate it at all.

So after my best friends gave me their rave reviews of Live Free or Die Hard, in addition to my co-workers, my brother and family just chimed in calling it their favorite since the original.

I may have to go see this now!

I don't know, I used http://tv-links.co.uk/index.do/4 and it linked to stage6 but it was in low-res.

Go see "Knocked Up" TVC, it was absolutely hilarious and the tender moments didn't feel like some special episode of Full House about Kimmie getting an abortion.

1408, not as bad as I would have thought.  Pro-tip: don't watch it with your friends while high.  you'll laugh a lot and ruin the movie for everybody else.  It's good enough that I wouldn't mind watching it again on dvd in a couple years.

I really liked this season of The Office, but I've only seen the pilot of the UK version, so not sure how to compare.

It's definitely true that the series gravitated from awkward humor towards buffoonery over time, but I thought most of it was really well executed, regardless.

Don't bother seeing Knocked Up in a theater at this point.  I like watching comedies with a live audience for the crowd reactions, but at this point, you're not going to have enough people watching it to get that.

My wife and I aren't seeing this movie this weekend simply because of the above reasoning. Free-range children and their terrible breeder parents ruin the movie going experience. The thing is that, at least where I live in the sun belt, you aren't even safe on opening weekend if you go to a movie not aimed at children. I had toddlers/four year olds start bawling in Pan's Labyrinth and Children of Men, for christ's sake.

I went to a midnight showing of a pixar movie once and children still ruined it for me. And this was in a college town at a university movie theater.

Ugh, you're kidding.  We didn't see Pan's until it had been out a couple of weeks down here, I can't imagine children going to see that movie.  Uhh, it's not for kids?

Children of Men we went to a late show so there were no kids, still though, I can't imagine a child sitting through that movie quietly either.  People are so damn inconsiderate anymore, makes me ill.
