It seems pretty fucking uninspired if you ask me but what do I know, I would have preferred if it didn't involve Jamie Foxx or Collin Farrel. From what I hear it doesn't have the charisma as the tv series, and not even a dose of its personality. These days I am watching Miami Vice every day so I'm in the mood for watching this movie. I put it at the top of my netflix queue.
-
it's ok, the pacing is ruined because of the 3 completely unnecessary sex scenes in 20 minutes. the movie does look visually stunning and is one of the most beautiful movies i've ever seen.
it's a good rental but nothing more
-
Sucks, because Michael Mann helmed the original tv series. Potential wasted.
I wanted to see it, but I couldn't justify watching a movie that stains Miami Vice in the theaters. If it was in the 80's I probably would have saw it day one.
-
and he don't even use collin's in the air tonight during the movie. mann chose the crapy cover. there was a part when crockett and tubbs are heading to the deal i think (can't really remember aynmore) and that part would've been perfect for in the air tonight. it could've been something like this:

Have you noticed that most of these movies seem like pussy shit compared to these old classics, Bud? Or is it just me? They don't seem to get the style or anything. It's just guns a blazin'.
-
It sucks shit and I question the sanity of those who say it's visually impressive. In comparison to Collateral, a good many of the visuals appear outright amatuerish. I still say we just blame it all on Colin Farrell. The guy is a useless fuckwit and turns every reel of cinematic drivel he appears on into an equivilent of acid being thrown on your eyeballs.
-
it's shit, but that was obvious from the trailers.
-
Its a sub-par Micheal Mann flick, which is still not bad. There's a rather awesome shootout, some really good location shooting and cinematography, and the whole Mann-ly way that the cops and drug dudes go about their business, which is all fun to watch.
Not great, kind of drags. But certainly not bad.
but then again, I hated Running Scared, so what the heck do I know?
-
running scared was terrible.

running scared was awesome
-
Running Scared was pretty fun.

running scared is an awesome b movie. maybe not worth a purchase, but definitely a rental.... and i own it.
-
Running Scared was terrible.
-
something tells me the people who loved running scared were huge fans of smoking aces....oh, and crank.
all three of which i found unwatchable.
-
Yeah, they don't make fun Grade B movies like Running Scared anymore.
-
Crank rules. Shut up.
-
I didn't like Smokin' Aces and Crank was forgettable - you lose at generalizing, futami!

I didn't like Smokin' Aces and Crank was forgettable - you lose at generalizing, futami!
well, those movies embodied every reason that i found running scared unwatchable.
shit acting
shit pacing
gaping plot holes.
frenetic camera cuts that made me feel like i'd stumbled into class at The Michael Bay Institute of Shitty Direction
-
The acting was inconsistent, the pacing was okay and it had plot holes. But it was also fun Grade B entertainment and certainly the kind they don't make anymore. It's okay to appreciate film for what is, as much as for what it isn't.
-
Anyways, I almost rented Miami Vice and instead I got Smoking Ass and man, there's no way Miami Vice could've been worse than that.
-
Actually, Miami Vice was pretty boring. There wasn't a lot dialogue and it made very little sense. It seemed like a really long music video.
-
I really liked Miami Vice, i've only seen the director's cut. I can understand why some people might be turned off by the pacing; I really didnt mind since i'm really into watching those yakuza flicks where its like people talking around a table for 2 hours :-*
-
I really liked Miami Vice
Well that's enough for me *takes movie out of queue*

1. The New Miami Vice, sucks
2. Stick with the old tv series
3. Buy the xbox or pc version , http://www.davilex.com/product.aspx?ID=67
Awesome awesome game.
Thanks for listening :) :P

1. How does one "remake" an entire TV show that had over 100 episodes into a 2.5 hour movie? Granted, the film is essentially a remake of an episode of the show, "Smuggler's Blues", but you make it sound like the movie is a remake of an entire series, which would be impossible.
2. Michael Mann didn't helm the television series. It wasnt his creation, nor did he direct anything more than a single episode. He was a producer on the show, but it was not his baby.
3. Crank and Smoking Aces were both steaming piles of shit. Running Scared was fun though.
And finally, about the movie:
4. The film has a ton of flaws, but I still find more to like than to hate. Mann should have just called it something other than Miami Vice and people would have reacted better to it.
Flaws: aside from the two lead characters, it doesnt feel remotely like its source; a lack of character development/setting up relationships (this flaw is somewhat fixed in the DC), leaving you not caring about the characters; oddball structure, the film just starts and just ends; too long; dialogue is often muffled and hard to hear; some superfluous scenes (its weird, after seeing the DC, as Mann left in scenes that should have been cut, and cut scenes that needed to be in there); Foxx, who looks really bored and phoned this in.
Pros: the production values (great sound, excellent visuals, great locations); I really liked Farrell in this; the classic Mann trademark of matching great music to great visuals; I really loved how we the audience were only fed the same information in fragments as Tubbs and Crockett got (I felt it worked well in setting up the confusion/chaos in the undercover world); in general, Mann once again succeeded with me in exploring his usual theme that he dives into each film he makes, that of men trying to balance their professional and personal lives.
Anyways, if youre gonna watch it, get the superior DC.
-
how's the pacing in the dc e.g. what did he do with the useless sex scenes?
-
Nothing, they are still there. Like I said, he cut things he shouldnt have, and left in things he should have cut, like the gratuitous sex scenes.
-
PLAY MIAMI VICE THE GAME DAMMIT, THE GAME KICKS MAJOR ASS.
Serious it does, just make sure you have 512megs of ram and a video card with 128 or 256MB and make sure the card has pixel shaders 1.2 or higher.

Running Scared was a terrible movie that was also fucking hilarious. Best bad movie since Battlefield Earth IMO.
-
It grows on you.
-
Miami Vice was terrible. It was like an ameteur film with a big budget. I've seen made for TV movies that are better films.
-
Also, Gong Li's girdle couldn't hide her obvious obesity.

wtf
-
I watched it. It was a really good movie, but if it would have been better if Miami Vice wasn't in the title and if they fleshed out the characters more. That said, Crockett and Tubbs didn't feel like Crockett and Tubbs, and they didn't really come as partners
