Microsoft Expands Xbox 360 Warranty Coverage
Microsoft Corp. today announced that it will expand its global Xbox 360 warranty coverage. Any Xbox 360 customer who experiences a general hardware failure indicated by three flashing red lights will now be covered by a three year warranty from date of purchase. All other existing Xbox 360 warranty policies remain in place.
As a result of what Microsoft views as an unacceptable number of repairs to Xbox 360 consoles, the company conducted extensive investigations into potential sources of general hardware failures. Having identified a number of factors which can cause general hardware failures indicated by three red flashing lights on the console, Microsoft has made improvements to the console and is enhancing its Xbox 360 warranty policy for existing and new customers.
Microsoft stands behind its products and is taking responsibility to repair or replace any Xbox 360 console that experiences the "three flashing red lights" error message within three years from time of purchase free of charge, including shipping costs. Microsoft will take a $1.05 billion to $1.15 billion pre-tax charge to earnings for the quarter ended June 30, 2007 for anticipated costs under its current and enhanced Xbox 360 policies.
"The majority of Xbox 360 owners are having a great experience with their console and have from day one. But, this problem has caused frustration for some of our customers and for that, we sincerely apologize," said Robbie Bach, president of Microsoft's Entertainment & Devices Division. "We value our community tremendously and look at this as an investment in our customer base. We look forward to great things to come."
For any customer who has previously paid for repair expenses related to the three flashing lights error message on the Xbox 360 console, Microsoft will retroactively reimburse them.

eh, anything to minimize the percepted unreliability of its hardware on the Internet, dodge the admittance to an hidden vice in the hardware design and a recall, and to appear "sympathetic" in case a massive lawsuit comes by
the 360 still ships with the same faults, not to mention that dealing with the tech support is quite an hassle, one that a lot of people are not ready to deal with for a multitude of reasons
Microsoft still deserves to be sued and severely punished for this fiasco

yes, it's retroactive, so if you bought a 360 before this, your warranty is now for 3 years after your original date of purchase.

Still doesn't fix the problem that it's shitty hardware. My original one broke (http://youtube.com/watch?v=X2VSp_LiFPo) got it back, then this "new" one is starting to do the same fucking problem.
FUck you Microsoft. This isn't any excuse. You still suck at making hardware, and you still force us to pay for shipping, fucking cocksucking fuckers.

Ive been fucking with it.
I mean, its very strange, it worked a few days ago.
I have it set to load ulaunchelf (usng a memory card exploit) when I put in FF9 disc 2 (only ps1 game I have lying around, and it fails to even read that disc now.
ill mess with it some more

How do you do this? My Gamecube can hardly read any of my games anymore. :(
I'm not sure about the Gamecube. It could be that the laser is spent.
With the PS2, it has an issue with it being very sensitive to how close the diode is to the disk. So you open it up and spin a little gear that moves the laser up and down. You then test out different disks, readjust the diodes level to the "sweet spot" and your done.

The serious hardware problems with the 360 have gone past hardcore gamer complaints and have reached the mainstream. I hope this at least nudges the company to start redesigning the fucking system and fixing what is obviously deeply flawed hardware.
