I dunno it seems so epic. I mean the story is shit, but it seems so awesome and hardcore.

I planned on picking it up at some point, but probably not around launch. That damn trailer got me excited, I'll probably drop the dough at the end of September.

this is how I felt after Halo 1 regarding Halo 2. Then Halo 2 was released and all the epicness and awesome story lines went down the drain.

Why not play the Marathon games?  They are free and take place in the same universe.

I can't imagine having a 360 and not buying this game. I'll probably spring for the standard edition.

I imagine the non-commital answer is just incase they figured out a slambang ending to Halo that made it incompatible.

There are lots of nods to Marathon.  Off the top of my head, the captain of the ship in the first level of Halo has the Marathon insignia on his suit, and the skulls from Halo 2 are a throwback to Marathon.

It's been years, but the Marathon games do have plots that could have been ripped from Halo, with rogue AIs and Cortana-esque shit.
