I liked Metal Gear Solid 2's intertextual references (but not its story).

gta series

I don't get intertextuality in my games. :( Instead I get centimeter-accurate rivets on boats and planes! :hyper :hyper :hyper

Actually, Frag... were you big into the old computer wargames... like 10-15 years ago? Do you remember a game called Harpoon, perchance?

Old? Harpoon is still being updated! But yeah, I remember it-couldn't afford it when it came out. :(
Harpoon 4 is one of the craziest stories in PC gaming. Started, cancelled four years later, restarted again two years later, cancelled again two years after that.
Nowadays I admit I prefer lighter fare-Silent Hunter is pretty much the only naval game I play now. I've been thinking of trying out the new Carriers at War remake from SSG that came out, but there's a lot demanding my time nowadays on the bearded man PC game front.

Actually, I was gonna say... where I work we use a heavily modified version of Harpoon (I believe #III) to simulate submarine warfare, my current project involves writing an interface for the Harpoon devs to use to interface with some inhouse simulation engines. So I just think that is pretty cool that people remember that game, since I remember reading about it in an oooooold issue of Game Players from the 80's.

Wow, that sounds badass! I know that both Harpoon and some of Sonalysts' work had been used in actual military simulations, which is very neat, given than civilians can play a game that is almost the same thing as what the military gets. It's just just naval simulation though-games like Steel Beasts (I loved this one a few years ago) have military-grade versions for armored combat simulation.
