BEE SUIT BITCHES.

Game of all time
-
Looks great.
-
VIDEO GET!
http://www.deletionquality.net/SMG__broll_FINAL.wmv
Holy fucking shit! Looks like my fears about it not being platformer heavy are put to rest AT LAST!
-
Some of the level design looks insanely clever. OMG OMG OMG
-
wow, that looks pretty good, why didn't nintendo show more than 10 seconds of it
-
wow, that looks pretty good, why didn't nintendo show more than 10 seconds of it
Same reason they didn't last year. THEY'RE FUCKING JERKS! :maf
-
Wow, that looks fantastic. I missed the video before.
-
This is the type of game I want from Nintendo. Why do they only have one of them? Christ.
-
apparently Nintendo had some good DS games that they DIDN'T present, like Advance Wars DS 2. they were just tryin' to snub gamers and tell us what we SHOULD want, as expected.
WII FIT THIS
-
Graphics are satisfying, but that's mainly due to the awesome art direction. I only hope the final game stays at 60fps.
-
This may be the first 3D platformer I actually enjoy (save the Fludd-less special stages of Sunshine).
-
That level design looks INSANE!!!
-
The level design looks glorious. Holy fucking SHIT.
-
There are quite a few really awesome looking DS and Wii games that weren't even MENTIONED in the conference. Wtf Nintendo.
-
did they talk about No More Heroes

looks good. But does it play good or is it still the same Mario 64 engine...agian?

Er...what's wrong with the Mario 64 engine? I can't even think how you could make a 3D Mario platformer without that engine.
-
New vids just got uploaded. Watchin now.

EdiT: Holy shit, some of these planets are HUGE. Fucking awesome. :bow
-
One of the only reasons to have a wii
-
this game looks fun, apparently you can play co-op, with the second player shooting enemies on screen and stunning them -- they can stun you too. the only wii game i'm looking forward to this year.
-
This game will be pretty hard too it seems.
Q: Some would say that Super Mario Sunshine was a little difficult... you said you are making this game a lot more accessible. Is it safe to assume the later levels are the more hardcore ones?
A: That's a question I struggled with a very long time. There are a number of people on the staff who thought Super Mario Sunshine was very difficult, but others thought that's what made it fun. In terms of Super Mario Galaxy. I think it's a good thing to have a suitable level of difficulty. To be honest the game was significantly easier until a few months ago and I started making it much more difficult, to the point that the team in Tokyo was starting to get worried that I was making it too difficult.
-
I am very dissapointed because instead of having 15 grand areas like in Mario 64, it only has 6.
-

But there are 40 galaxies, tho.
-
No hate in this thread? Huh?
Why would their be hate? This looks pretty great.

HOLY SHIT TVC MAKES MISTAKES!

? Where did I ever say anything bad about this game? I like a lot of Nintendo games. It just irks me that they decide to focus on (very profitable) garbage like Wii Fit.
-

But there are 40 galaxies, tho.
You can bet the 40 "galaxies" they were referring to are just the tiny planets, scattered through all the 6 areas. Why not 15 areas like Mario 64? Underwhelming.
-
Yes, Metroid Prime was shit.
-
Seriously, THIS is the Nintendo I want
I'd rather have FUN rehashed IPs than a fucken Fitness game
I'll buy a wii for SMG! :bow

Nah, they said each galaxy is going to be an actual 'level' or sequence of planets that we've been seeing. They are keeping the 'levels' smaller after the positive reaction to NSMB.
-
I don't think most people get the hate for Nintendo. It's not an all encompassing hate in most cases. It comes from the fact that Nintendo can make good games they just choose not too in most cases and instead focus on crap like Nintendo Dogs and animal cross, or worse, chubkin's stay at home fat camp. Also Metroid Prime was shit.
Well that and they put priority on C+ level projects like Jungle Beat, while putting their AAA game (Galaxy in this case) on the backburner.
Of course, when Nintendo's NOT doing dumb things like that... :heart
-
but i hear yi2 is better than the original
-

yep. everything i've seen so far of this game just oozes awesomness. it looks like tons of fun and the game actually looks awesome and the art-direction is just..:bow
smg>sms and maybe even sm64
-
but i hear yi2 is better than the original
It's not... the levels are really quite sloppily put together, and towards the end of the game there are a lot of trial and error, cheap death areas. YI1 is much tighter in terms of level design. And YI2's music is really bad. YI2 isn't that bad though.
-
smg>sms and maybe even sm64
Mario 64 wasn't that great.

Mario 64 wasn't that great.
It really wasn't.

Mario 64 kicked fucking ass at the time.

Pretty much.
-
Most people that donīt like Mario 64 didnīt play it back in the day. The level desing, the 3d platforming, the sense of inertia, etc was something revolutionary back in the day.
-
SM64 is a great game, you guys are crazy.
Jumping Flash>Mario 64
also yoshi's island 2 was ok. alot of nintendo fanwank though since nintendo fans cream their pants at the sight of mascots.
The game gets tons of hate.

How can you have the balls to say "It really wasnīt" if you say later that you played Mario 64 like 8 years after release? You DONīT KNOW what was to play this game back in 1996, so your opinion ("It really wasnīt") canīt be taken seriously.
-
I don't particularly care for any 3D platformers besides Jumping Flash. My opinion has more to do with personal preferences towards the genre in general, not the particular game.
Will you not be purchasing Galaxy then?
-
Of course I will. My genre prejudices rarely get in the way of me trying out games.
Coo. Wasn't implying anything, btw. Was just curious due to your comment about 3D platformers. :heartbeat
-
Mario 64 kicked fucking ass at the time.
And just like every other big name N64 game it aged horribly.
OoT, Goldeneye 64, Mario 64, PD, all of these games are complete ass today.

Your post isnīt really a good counter because he said "at the time". And I donīt think Oot and Mario 64 have aged that badly. Ootīs level design should be a total joke by now, and there are still a million games out there that donīt come close to the astonshing level design of the adult dungeons. Mario 64 was better designed than Sunshine. The only things that Sunshine do better than M64 are the graphics and sound and that result of better hardware. Mario 64 has twice as much stages and feels more like a platfomer than the borefest that Sunshine was.
Of course, since this is the internet, I have to say IMO.

You played Mario Sunshine before Mario 64?
o_O
-
Well, if you count "played" as "I played it for 2 hours when my friend brought his n64 over in 1997." I never had an N64 until my buddy let me borrow his N64 + OOT and I never gave them back (ended up selling the n64 to gamestop to get FFXI pc version on day one).
I went back and played through it after SMS, and it was average on all accounts. Boring level design;etc. etc.
The clock and flying carpet levels ruled though.
-
Hating Mario 64 is admitting to not knowing shit about game design.
Hell, most modern 3d platformers haven't been able to do the 3d feel of an N64 launch game. They're just top down action adventures with a jump button and a spin move to make up for poor hit detection.
-
Hating Mario 64 is admitting to not knowing shit about game design.
Hahaha
-
Itīs the truth :P.
-
If it's because it's the very reason most 3d platformers suck donkey balls due to its influence, I'm guilty as charged.
-

No most can't even do what Mario 64 did, even to this day, which is why they suck balls(which was the point I made).
A lot of people can do 3d graphics, but not everyone can do 3d gameplay with actual spatial reasoning involved.
-
What is it that most games can't do what Mario 64 did? Send gamers into small ass levels to grab a coin 10 times? Or the control or what?
-
The control, the sense of inertia and actually being in a 3d space. If you take a Crash or Naughty Dog platformer, you could apply the level design in those games directly to a 2d game, just from an overhead perspective.
The platforming and layout of Mario 64 could not be translated into 2d topdown, because it used the actual 3d space. This extends into SMS even if you think of the Jackie Chan sorta jumping/wall climbing you do in that game.
Mechanically, most modern 3d platformers are like a cheap radio control car, that has four basic directions it can go. Up, down, left, right. Mario on the other hand is like a highly manueverable RC helicopter that can twist around, rise and fall, diagonal, curve and strafe.
-
Mario 64 is still fun as hell. SMS is hated on too much, but that's mostly due to it feeling like a spinoff Mario game. I'll admit I didn't enjoy it as much as pretty much every Mario game that preceded it. Galaxy looks to really be taking the Mario series to a new level, while incorporating the awesome level design that the series always exhibited.
-
sunshine > 64
64 is crap

NO YOU

No
Goldeneye is funny for about 10 minutes if youre drunk or something. Otherwise yeah, N64 games look like absolute dogshit today, they also play like shit. OoT sucks!
-
goldeney is like 15 fps or something, so it is unplayable nowadays but it didn't hurt the game back then.
-
Goldeneye runs pretty smooth, it's PD that's fucked in the frame rate department.
Multiplayer is still pretty bad from what I remember, but I didn't find it unplayable when a few friends and I popped it in a few months ago.
-

but slow, right? i don't remember much anymore but i played the game a couple of years ago and it was freakin slow. but pd, yeah, lol. goldeney was the better game, though imo.
-
Mario 64 is still great fun to play, but I'd be lying if I said I enjoy it more than Sunshine. Sunshine has, quite simply, the best control in any platformer ever. It's so fluid and precise, it's incredible.
-
sunshine > 64
64 is crap
Drinky knows what it's all about
-
Nintendo said the game is divided in 6 areas containing 40 galaxies. Can anyone explain this? What is a "galaxy" in this game? I think they got confused and the game actually has 6 galaxies and 40 planets.
-
Didn't want to make a new thread. Here's a level that they didn't show before. Very reminiscent of one of Sunshine's secret levels
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ulpqnb0ovc
-
I prefer Sunshine as well. The platforming areas were godly, with old school challenge. Those blue coins were a total bitch. SMS remains the only Mario game I haven't beat 100 percent complete 'cause of the freaking blue coins.
I downloaded SM64 on VC and I found it too limiting. At the time it was released it was simply amazing, though.
-
I remember renting Jumping Flash on my PS1 as a kid :bow . It was one of those weird Playstation Game boxes that was really long omg
-
sunshine > 64
64 is crap
this unpopular opinion has the added bonus of being correct
-
maybe not, but Sunshine is hardly deserving of the horrific vitriol spewed its way, either.
-
man, you know what's bullshit? Tick-Tock Clock. some parts of Mario 64 are just completely unplayable drek.
-
maybe not, but Sunshine is hardly deserving of the horrific vitriol spewed its way, either.
Some people do exagerrate, but the complaints about Sunshine were legit.
-
64 and Sunshine were both crap. Although I did only play 64 for the 1st time a few months ago, I probably wouldve loved it back when It came out. But Sunshine is just a bad game. I liked the part where you had to pull the octopusses face off
-

Bah, to hell with you.
64, back in its day, was great. Sunshine evolved the control into omg like quality, it just suffered from horrid level design in some parts (that one Beach, and then inside the hotel :-\). Also, I think both have some pretty awesome compositions. The theme from Bob-bomb Battlefield= :bow, Delfino Square theme= :bow
-
I loved N64 back in the day, Banjo Kazooie, Conker, Diddy Kong racing, Mario Kart, F-Zero X were all tops
-
*sigh*
I meant Mario 64.
But yeah, I like those games too.
-
64 is great. I played that to completion even on DS.
its so good
-
sucks
-
Maybe I should give it another shot. Ive got it on my Wii
-
I enjoyed Mario 64 in the day but I cant bring myself to play it anymore. Collecting stars to get to the levels I like is so tedious.
-
A TON of new vids showed up.

I need a Wii...
-
I just watched the Prologue video. Sweet jebus, what art and effort can do. There is obviously an enjoyable tier of graphics you can reach on Wii, 3rd parties just don't bother reaching for it.
-
zomg smb3 koopa ships :heartbeat :heartbeat :heartbeat
The vehicular esk things look cool too.
-
Oh fuck SMB3 koopa ships?!?
FUCK
NOSTALGIA

Finally a good game for my Wii.
Did you miss Twilight Princess, Super Paper Mario and Metroid Prime 3? :-\

Loved TP (though it could have been a lot better).

SSBB, Mario Galaxy and Mario Kart is what i want.

Yeah, I'll also be getting a Wii for SMG. Tri-Console owner, my money pwnt

I think it's time to forgive the Sand Bird and appreciate the awesomeness that is Super Mario Sunshine.
If you hate it so much I'll buy your copy off you for $20.

OMG
There are still three Mario powerups to be revealed!!!! THREE!!!!!!! HOLY SHIT IT COULD BE ANYTHING
:hyper :hyper :hyper :hyper :hyper
Hopefully THE SHOE.
-
Fuck off with that nostalgia shit.
The Bee Suit is the new awesomeness. If Nintendo can come up with something like that, I want more original stuff for the powerups!
Fuck that shit... Shoe >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Bee Suit
-
They all started out that way. Two of them are direct ports with waggle tacked on.
Metroid Prime 3 started out on Gamecube hardware, but it sure as fuck didn't have waggle tacked the fuck on.
Super Paper Mario and TP, dude... You think either of those were designed with waggle in mind?
-
anyone else peep the vids on the offical SMG japanese site? :o
my hype meter for this game just exploded...
-
DONT FREAK OUT RUZBEH AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHUTISM
-
lmao

A bunch of new vids on GT.

Glad to see Nintendo's remembered how to make good music again.
