Especially the arcade version. The ending music is so awesome.
-
I just played this earlier...
yes all of the music is divine..I love the dtails in the arcade version not present in the genesis version. especially in the parallax background images...
I love the dead gray bodies in the arcade game not present in the genessis rom...
Im really glad this came out - total remind of when i was an arcade hustler.

I think it's much better than, say, TMNT. See my other thread: last night I thought a 1 credit win on this wasn't possible, but after beating it three times, I can totally see it as happening. There is strategy/exploitation to the game. TMNT, though, is a total quarter muncher. Regardless of skill, you will die, and you will die often. This is by far the better beat em up.
I can't believe I have played through this 3 times. And I can go again, too.
-
I mean, this is Evilbore, so I had to use hyperbole or nobody would have read this, but the game is really a lot better than I remembered.
-
I can think of a few other AAA Sega games:
Super Hang On, Shenmue, Headhunter and F-Zero GX are all must plays

Shenmue is barely playable. No, scratch that, it's NOT playable.
However, pretty much ALL of Sega's rpgs were must owns IMO. Phantasy Star series (discounting III and the online shit), all three Shining Force games, Panzer Dragoon Saga and of course Skies of Arcadia. It's a real shame that Sega has basically become the Virtua Fighter and Not Much Else company.
-
Skies of Arcadia :bow Now that title has a lot of sizzle. Sega :'(
-
golden axe <3

Are we playing the same TMNT? I would barely consider that a quarter muncher.
You guys are thinking of The Simpsons.
-
Panzer Dragoon Saga is WAY overrated because it's oh-so rare
it was a good feat to have a full 3D console RPG in 1998 on the Saturn of all platforms, but it's aged terribly since then
-
It still has a fairly unique and fun battle system. It may not be much to look at, but it's setting is also fairly neat. If people sludge through PSX shit, there's no reason to consider PDS overrated.

It's one of my favorite RPGs ever, and that has zilch to do with the rarity or the graphics. Awesome game, and fully deserving of some sort of update/remake.

Yeah, sorry. Forgive me if I don't ever take you as reputable on anything, jotaro.

Jotaro has an incredible track record of having some of the most polar opposite views on gaming this side of the Internet; I don't know why any of you guys would take his opinion seriously to begin with. We're not talking about a guy having his guilty game (The Darkness, Advent Rising, Bullet Witch, etc.), but rather a full fledge spectrum of awful opinions.
-
playing it in early 2007 for the first time really made me wonder what the fuss was all about
is there anyone who truly liked it more than most any other RPG AND who played it pretty recently, per opposition to in the 32-bit age?

err... isn't it some sort of an awkward thing to say?
"if you dislike more than three or four games or things that the community groupthink usually likes, then you have awful tastes"
out of the majority of casual forum goers who have total clout on what the groupthink feels, and a few individuals perceived by them as "polarizing", who's the most likely to have the most well-researched, well-tailored tastes? and won't automatically like what game site reviewers recommend them to like?

I played it about a year ago and still really liked it. However, I really like old school rpgs in general so I may not be the best person to ask.
-
How many people online does Golden Axe multiplayer support?
-
Tom Chick loved Overlord and hated The Darkness.
-
bullet witch was awesome! I need to get around to downloading the extras one of these days.
-
Golden Axe was never a AAA series. The best of the bunch is the second (or was that third?) Golden Axe arcade game that never made it to home consoles, and even then I'd rather play other BEUs. I'll take Dungeons & Dragons over this any day.
Final Fight, Streets of Rage 2, and Double Dragon 1 and 2 are pretty much the only old BEUs I can really go back and play anymore from that era.
-
Guilty game? I feel no guilt for saying I like good games. I can't say the same for you two, however.

It was the third one I think, awesome game. There was a dude with a pitchfork who could magic apples to replenish health.
Other hot arcade titles:
D&D
Caddilacs and Dinosaurs
Ninja Baseball Batmen (?)
The Punisher

Nice list :)
Don't forget AvP, Combat Tribes, Violent Storm, and Metamorphisis

Oh sure, those are great too, but those all came along later on. I'm talking about BEUs from the 80s and very early 90s only.
Don't forget about Sengoku 3; that has the best game play of any 2D BEU by far.
-
Don't forget Warzard/Red Earth and Powered Gear! Two awesome, ridiculously hard to find Capcom beat-em-ups which have never had any sort of home conversion. :'(
-
That's what emulation is for. :-*
-
I'm not interested in the emulation scene.
