Title: Facebook is a great way to stalk people you haven't seen in years
Post by: Howard Alan Treesong on July 12, 2007, 06:25:29 PM
I was forced onto it by my brother last week and finally started poking around for the first time today.

Wow! It's like MySpace for non-social rejects. The interface is clean and it's really easy to connect people and networks together. I'm sometimes forced into LinkedIn at work, and that's also bullshit, but Facebook is the first ever social networking site I've seen that doesn't make me want to die.

Also, all I had to do was tell it I went to University X, and suddenly it would let me view the profiles of anyone from University X. So I've just spent like 30 minutes looking up all the freshman girls in my dorm senior year. The hottie Japanese chick put on like 30 lbs. :(

There's no way to tell who viewed your profile, right? RIGHT?!

I agree. I refuse to participate in online social networking. Fuckers should come LOOKING for ME; I don't need THEM.

I had a profile when it first started up 3 years ago. My college was one of the few to have it. Then it exploded. I've deleted and recreated accounts a bunch of times since then, especially since I've jumped around. I don't have one now, and I doubt I ever will again.

I LOVED facebook in college, the most I ever had was like 495 frineds, but unlike when I had myspace it was people I know from grammar school friending me and shit after I got all my high school frineds and college friends it was pretty awesome.

Although after awhile it kinna became a contest to see who could get more people on their (I bet it still is) - and pretty much anyone who you had like a brief interaction with freinds you on that thing - I remember waking up from a party and having like 4 friends requests weekly from people I met drunk. oh well.

It was addicting, to be honest, I'd go to the computer lab to type a paper and fuck around with facebook all night.  Very cool when it was college only.

but I deleted my myspace/facebook when I started to slug off in grades, like Cajole I'll reactive it randomly to read my ex-girlfriends page ;p, then delete it real quick before she can delete me :\

I never got addicted to it at all. I have no idea how people could spend so much time on it. Now GAF on the other hand...

well not like addicted 24/7 but I'd check it when i get in, then in the computer lab check it and shit - I dunno it was pretty neat to see who left you comments and check on other peoples comments.

but keeping up and leaving people comments back was so tedious.

Well yea, I guess I could see that. I never got into sending messages back and forth or leaving wall posts or whatever. I did a few drunk ones.

LinkedIn is great, mostly because I use it to stalk people for my work

Mwahahaha

I have a Myspace but I'm sick of it, I don't know why I haven't gotten rid of it yet... never got into Facebook, the social networking boom came a bit after I graduated from college, which sucks, it might have made my dating life in college slightly easier (fat chance of that), but at least that kinda forced me to talk to the girls in person. My brother uses Facebook, it seems much more ppl are using it than Myspace.

I dick around with it at work occasionally.  No one I really give a shit about frequently uses it, but posting vile things on other people's walls is a fun way to pass time.

I love Facebook.  I use it daily, got back together with several old friends, and I can always watch what my friends are doing.  I also made several friends from groups I created (I created a group for several RPG series, like Atelier Iris, Xenogears, Tales, etc.).

Do you need to be in college to use Facebook's networking features? That's what one kid who still swears by Myspace told me.

Freeform I don't mind, although I don't know much about it/have a lot of songs, not much of a fan of gabber though.

just wondering considering you said youre into dance music and all. I used to be into most electronic genres but now my taste seems to revolve around techno, acid house and hardcore. Im trying to learn how to mix freeform on vinyl, its really fucking hard

Facebook was good for organizing events, finding out about things going on on campus, parties etc. But once they opened it up to non college people I lost almost all interest in it.

Also almost all my friends stopped using it once the graduated. Its still a decent way to contact them, but no one I know seriously maintains it after graduating.
