Title: 101 Greatest Simpsons quotes
Post by: Himu on July 20, 2007, 12:57:46 PM
http://blogzarro.com/?p=223

Homer: How is education supposed to make me feel smarter? Besides, every time I learn something new, it pushes some old stuff out of my brain. Remember when I took that home winemaking course, and I forgot how to drive?

Sideshow Bob: No children have ever meddled with the Republican Party and lived to tell about it.

Homer: You don't like your job, you don't strike. You go in every day and do it really half-assed. That's the American way.

Homer: How could you?! Haven't you learned anything from that guy who gives those sermons at church? Captain Whatshisname? We live in a society of laws! Why do you think I took you to all those Police Academy movies? For fun? Well, I didn't hear anybody laughing, did you? Except at that guy who made sound effects. Makes sound effects and laughs. Where was I? Oh yeah! Stay out of my booze.

Futurama is so much better.

It is.

But Futurama doesn't have a movie coming!

Futurama was a consistantly better show, but I think I'm sodomizing dead horses when I say that seasons 2 through 6 (or so) of The Simpson's are unrivaled among animated television series.

To say otherwise means you're distinguished mentally-challenged.

"Legend has it my great grandpappy stumbled upon this recipe when he was trying to invent a cheap substitute for holy water."

Not on the list, but a great throwaway line.

I haven't looked at the list yet, but most of those quotes had better come from Ralph Wiggum... or else.

Ralph: Me fail English? That’s unpossible.

The greatest Simpsons quote ever will be the "The end" sign featured in the impending last episode of this borefest.

So to say "Futurama is better" is pretty much distinguished mentally-challenged too.

That's basically what I'm driving at.  It isn't exactly fair to compare nearly 20 years of The Simpson's to 5 seasons of Futurama.  There are far more good-to-excellent episodes of The Simpson's than there are episodes of Futurama, good or bad.  And Futurama doesn't even approach The Simpson's high points.

Thank you. I just wanted to make sure we were on the right page. BrandNew's and Himuro's posts back-to-back made me twitch a little.

You can say that all you want, but when we say Futurama was better, we mean that we just find it a more enjoyable show. It certainly isn't as influential or ground breaking, but on an entertainment level, Futurama is better than Simpsons, imo. That is to say, the LATER seasons. We usually say this because we forget how good Simpsons USED to be and are just far used to the mediocre stuff they play these days.

Sorry, I should back up my statements.

As a fairly young guy who never really experienced the pinnacle of the Simpson's run, I can't be a guy who blindly says that the Simpsons is one of the best animated shows ever.  I understand its popularity and its influence on popular culture, but honestly, I have little experience with it.  The episodes I catch on our local network station are sort of funny, but Futurama makes me laugh every single nights its on Adult Swim.  I bet the episodes of the Simpson's I see are later seasons, so maybe I can't judge the entire series.  But as of right now, Futurama is the show that gets me laughing much more.

Sorry, heh.  Trust me, one day, I'll get some of the early season dvds and watch them.  I'm sure it's a great show.

The best simpsons quote will always be "That's a paddlin'".

And I really need to go back and watch those old seasons.
