Title: Fields of Dreams sucks ass

What the fuck was going on in this film? What's the point of meeting famous baseball players of the past in random locations? Interesting premise, terrible execution. I especially HATED James Earl Jones' character who becomes swayed so easily and stupidly, along with Costner's stepbrother. The whole film is just a big dose of stupid. Only Costner's presence saves the day, along with the actors playing baseball stars who manage to stay well in character. But the lines that they have to say are dumb and infuriating.

This film's message seems to be about, disregarding your grudges in order to talk with your friends or your relatives when they're still in their living years. Is that a good guess?

Worthless film for anything else than its "If you build it, he will come" quote, though.

Hideos HD-DVD transfer too, which doesn't offer that many improvements over a regular DVD when compared to what other HD video releases offer. Universal is so desperate to rush all their catalog films to disc so that the HD-DVD format still looks like it has a very big range of films to offer. And it shows when the video compression is so horrible, the picture so grainy, and the extra features so thin.

omg, billy, you're the only other person i've met who likes bull durham over field of dreams. YOU ARE THE BEST HUMAN BEING OF ALL TIME.

mondain, field of dreams is schmaltzy crap for baseball fans and dudes looking to reconnect with their fathers. sports movies are often about father-son relationships and the vicarious properties thereof, since sports are often the way fathers and sons connect. you wouldn't know this, though, since you're probably a massive disappointment to your dad!

Yeah, Bull Durham, now that was an entertaining film... it'll be a Blu-Ray exclusive too considering that it's the property of MGM

I'm seeing all the worthwhile HD-DVD films so that I can shun this format and sell the 360 HD-DVD add-on in the (near) future when it's dead and buried

Fields of Dreams on the other hand is just so bad, it must've been the source of inspiration for all those sappy feel-good sports films from Disney in the nineties and the early 2000's

Inspirational baseball movies tend to be worse than inspirational non-baseball movies, because they get into the George Will-style pastoral nostalgia.  Field of Dreams was way deep in that stuff.

It seems to me that at a certain point in time in the early to mid nineties, the average film in that genre just got way too preachy and sentimental. Major League and Mr. Baseball really weren't hald-bad.

It's about how DVD with its picture resolution which's 6x inferior to that of Blu-Ray just ain't cutting it for movie viewing anymore. :lol

What? Have you looked at a DVD on a 1080p panel? That shit's butt-ugly and color-less, and the upscaled MPEG-2 compression artifacts make it unpleasant to view. And one by one, we're ALL gonna get 1080p TVs. Once you go HD you don't ever want to go back.

Good luck convincing this of the average joe. It was hard enough getting everyone to move to DVDs, you think it will be easier now? Sorry, I don't want to pay hundreds/thousands of dollars for a better picture.

uh, yeah, I worked a bit in the summer to afford some shit, seeing as leisure money is going to be hard to come by at uni

I returned my old cheap HDTV at Costco to help pay for a 40 inches 1080p set by Sony that was on sale

now I really buy jack shit anymore, but it's still cheap to get HD movies on a regular basis when you use an online service like zip.ca or netflix

It's probably partly our fault, but it's much more interesting than shitting all over a movie from over 20 years ago.
