Play TM magazine is the first magazine corp to get their hands on the retail copy of PS3 exclusive game. According to the PLay TM magazine..
So yes, if there’s any doubt left, Lair has come together beautifully
“With its stunning visuals and incredible soundtrack, Lair may well be the single most powerful experience that a man can share with his $5,000 home theatre system.”
Lair is an utter feast for the eyes
Don’t assume that because Lair is such a stunning piece of eye candy that there isn’t also a substantial game at its core.

If gliding over a beautiful starlit ocean to the haunting strains of opera doesn’t impress you, you’re dead inside
It also says all framerate issues have been fixed.
The only negatives were that objectives weren’t explained well enough and confusing navigation sometimes.
They say that some of the confusion is because it combines nearly 6 genres into one game…but once you get use to it, it is a game with incredible depth.
It also says that replay value is extremely high–you can receive higher ranks and that unlocks amazing stuff such as new dragons, etc. to kick butt with.
Final Score :Play TM Gives 9.0/10.0
Drinky's incoming damage control in 5... 4... 3.... 2... :P

Here's your damage control: IT'S FUCKING PLAY MAGAZINE.
-
They say nothing about the gameplay, which I'm sure is boring as hell...
-
Play Magazine...run by Dave Halverson of Diehard Gamefan infamy? Yeah, that tells me all I need to know about that.
-

Yup. Dave Halverson. I mean, Dave Halverson. He and jotaro would probably get along famously.
-
dave and julian eggbrecht have regular buttsecks, so dave's just holding up his end of the deal. play gave the last rogue squadron game an A-, and dave got eggbrecht's throbbing danish dingdong all the way up his balloon knot. giving f5's latest scene demo a 9 should guarantee halverson a little ass 2 mouth play!
-
Play, lolz
-
odin sphere got a 10 from play
lol
-
the gameplay looks lol in all the videos i've seen. i'd only rent it for the graphics since it does look pretty awesome.
-
That means it's .5 worse than Death by Degrees. Which translates to "unplayable."
:rofl

But it's .5 BETTER than Sonic the Hedgehog 360!
Everyone I know that's played this has said that it is beautiful, but it plays terribly. I predict it will mostly pull in 6-7s with some especially high and low scores: high from the graphics whores, lows from the people that call em like they see em.
Factor 5 hasn't made a good game yet, and judging by the videos I've seen and the impressions I've heard, they haven't started to yet, either.
-
hey, factor 5 made denaris. and turrican!
...
-
OMG Turrican was so awesome.

Factor 5 PORTED Turrican and Turrican 2, they did not make them.
-
I don't know, the graphics hasn't really got my vagina wet. Some of the textures are razor sharp but theres something iffy about the visuals to me.
-
the game does look beautiful, but the gameplay seems like the definition and repetitive and boring.
-
Transfer reserve to Bioshock confirmed.

Playboy videogame reviews are the greatest. They had a review of Twilight Princess in 2005!
-
I haven't been interested in Lair from day one. If I hear good things, I might give it a chance, but I just find the entire game to be largely unappealing. Nothing to do with Factor 5's previous efforts; if it was something more akin to Draken I might be more interested.

I'd trust Playboy reviews more than I would Play reviews.

They gave it that high of a score??? Wow, and I thought the Sonic 2006, Monster Madness and Bullet Witch reviews were bad for credibility... :-\
-
They also had Odin Sphere on their cover and gave it ridiculously high praise. Odin Sphere!

Ouch. >:(

I browsed the play magazine site, and came upon this review.

an 8 for the DS Death Jr. game, nevermind that the game is shit. :-\
-
besides, how would jojo pirate games as conveniently on hd-dvd

Uh, doesn't that post belong in PhoenixWright's thread instead?
Anyhow I wouldn't mind at all. If 360 games wouldn't condemn you to cope with the sound of a muffled vacuum cleaner every single time you want to play for years and years to come, these'd be software items I'd gladly invest in. Sadly in their current state they make the 360 experience an anti-ergonomic one.
Not sure that I'll even keep on using DVD+R DL bootlegs with the diminished free time I'll have starting September, as soon as a decent canadian equivalent to Gamefly exists. Because going to the rental videostore endlessly to find out that the most popular games are not in stock yet or ALWAYS taken out just blows.

I've never understood why some PS3 advocates have voiced such strong complains about the 360's noise. They're the same people who kept talking about how much better uncompressed PCM sounds than regular Dolby Digital. If your sound system is actually good enough to hear the difference between DD5.1 and PCM, wouldn't you turn it up loud enough to cover the 360's disc-reading sound?

Uh, it's not everyone who wants from a 7.1 surround sound setup or whatever. Some of us hate wires and complexity. People who use anything else than their TV's stereo speakers for gaming and home movies are in a very small minority. It's not everyone who lives in their own homes where they'll have the freedom to pump up the volume to insanely loud levels; some live in appartments where they must be reasonably careful not to disturb others.
And it solves nothing anyway. As soon as you have a quiet game like Oblivion, or a tense horror game like Resident Evil where monsters come out of nowhere to spook you, the whole aural atmosphere is spoiled.

Even quiet games have background music that are loud enough at normal hearing levels to overcome a console's noise. I play w/my 360 on my PC monitor sometimes and I don't hear anynoise with headphones on. It could be that I'm used to the noise though since my PCs used to be pretty loud before I upgraded to water cooling.
-
uh, what? the presence of background music is WANTED, it's part of the director's intented experience with his game
whereas the 360's DVD-ROM whining is an hidden vice that detracts from it all
Oblivion can really be a much more immersive game on PS3 because of this
a game's music will only really overshadow the 360's noise when you play select genres like a fighter, or an action-packed racer like Ridge Racer 6; other genres usually don't have dynamic music that is on at all times
-
Doesn't Oblivion have a dumb epic song that keeps playing even when you're not fighting? I haven't played it in awhile .
-
is this game holding 30fps steady framerate yet?
