- If you're in a mission, the map not only shows a symbol, but even a line with the best route.
:-\
this shit better be optional :maf
-
maybe they'll make it so that the police will look for you on the best route more often, or the opposing gangs have setup traps there, or you can only reach it if you do x and y before, so there are more things to do/more time spent if you take said route and it ends up not being as helpful in all instances.
it'd be pretty dumb to downright say "go over there and do your thing". i doubt that's all there is to it.
-
I'm sure you'll be able to through alleys and create your own short cuts and stuff if you know the layout.

Saints Row did it, and it wasn't dumb.

i haven't played it, but if the game is just pointing out the absolute best route, it might as well as block all the other paths or even put you where you have to arrive. so yeah, it is dumb.
-
Just because it shows you the best way to get there, doesn't mean you have to listen and take that route.
-
finding the best route is what makes some missions interesting. if i already know it, a good part of the mission is already done.
and i shouldn't have to handicap myself to make the game interesting. i'd still turn the option off if possible, but if the best route is there, there's no point in going after another.
-
ananus - there are always multiple routes in GTA.
-
i know, but if i'm given the best route, i'll use the motherfucking best route. :maf

I'd rather use the actual GPS system (as in referencing a map) than some BIG ASS IMAGINARY LINE SHOOTING THROUGH THE REAL WORLD. I don't think we've come that far, technologically, yet.
-
That is just handholding. There are going to be other routes, of course, but the one traced by the map will probably be the shortest one. Hand holding ftl.
-
As others have stated, I hope Rockstar had the foresight of making it optional.

It doesn't point out the absolute best route, it points out the most direct way on roads-only. Assuming it's 100% perfect every time, even with roads-only.
If you prefer pressing Start every 40 seconds to make sure you didn't miss a turn, I don't know what to tell you.
And seeing the option lists in past GTA games, I would be shocked if you couldn't disable it.

There is no line in the real world. It says right in the OP that the line appears on the map.
In SR, at least, the line appears on the minimap/radar as well.

Ops! My reading comprehension has been sucking lately
I actually liked Vice Cities way of Zooming out of the map the faster you went. I would press start once to orient myself (just go North, West, East or South) and reach a certain point and turn where I need too. It feels like your actually navigating yourself but I guess thats what GPS is for.

You never have to press start every few minutes to see if you missed a turn in gta wtf

He's got a somewhat obvious point. The fastest route can almost always be quickened by making a few shortcuts through alleys/fields/backyards/whatever. The missions were never exactly challenging to begin with anyway, and they certainly weren't my favorite part of any of the games in the series..other than maybe some of the ones in GTA3.
