Post by: MrAngryFace on July 21, 2007, 05:32:39 PM

Same rational as lining up for consoles/iphones etc etc etc.

Because they're people, and people are generally morons. They forget that book stores aren't the only ones that sell books, apparently.

No. Unlike console releases, Harry Potter book releases aren't handled by distinguished mentally-challenged fellows.

You get in line, and they have all the books in one giant stack. They pass the books along to each person as they pass through the top of the line, and it's a very fast and easy process. It's not like you have to wait there for HOURS either. Just come at 11:30 and voila.

Because they're people, and people are generally morons. They forget that book stores aren't the only ones that sell books, apparently.

Oh, well I'm talking about people who have common sense. I went to Wal mart.

Most of the Barnes and Nobles don't have people waiting outside in a line. Usually, everyone is inside talking and doing stuff. I guess they came for the "festivities" and to meet other Harry Potter fans.

I don't think Harry Potter will be sold out for 6 months.

This is probably the answer.

Tons of people have already finished the book.  They got it at midnight so they could read it as quickly as possible.

Ugh. I'm glad I didn't order it via mail. I would have felt like a complete jackass signing for that. Or am I just being vitreous again, Corny?

I think people are just trying to make an event out of it.  Same principle as dressing up in a wizard costume, only less so.

If you spent a couple years winding yourself for a book's release, getting it at Wal-Mart would probably feel kind of anticlimactic.

You guys mean the places you went to didn't have a party? The people just stood in line like a douchebag? I went to Books a Million last night at 9 because they were having a Harry Potter celebration party from 9 to midnight. It was so awesome. There were people dressed up and there were tons of cute girls in cute school girl outfits. There was trivia games and little activities for kids to do like face painting and crafts. I had a blast.

They gave out pins for your age group and the 16+ group was Slytherin. I'm now wearing my Slytherin pin at work, too. I can't imagine just standing in line for the book like a douche. Being able to run around and pretty much destroy Books a Million without getting in trouble was so fun.

Naw. At the beginning of the line at my wal mart they had a big ass table decorated with a bunch of HP stuff no one bothered touching and the people at that table wore magician robes and painted scars, but everyone else was normal and just stood in line for 15-30 minutes until it was midnight so they could get the book.

That's not fun at all. At Books a Million, basically the whole place was decorated like Harry Potter. There were so many people dressed up, too. Probably at least half of the people were dressed up.

The fun part is hitting on the young girls playing kiddie D & D.

every harry potter fan I know doesn't read much so saying they'll get the last book of the only author they keep up with must be pretty special to them.

I lined up for it because I wanted to start reading the book as close to it coming out as possible, so it wasn't spoiled for me.

The fact that there were some hot not underage girls there as well was an added bonus.

Potter, against the will of most of the Internet and probably this forum, was NOT spoiled for me, and honestly I fucking loved the book I just finished about two minutes ago.
