There's a good chance that they're going to stop weighing pre-orders and subscriptions into store rankings, instead opting more to focus on sales and trade goals and - more importantly - customer service feedback. The trickle effect hopefully means more focused customer service and less pestering.
-
Really? Then my store might go from last to first in the district rankings, since our used sales are awesome and our trades kick ass, but we can't reserve or sell a sub for shit anymore.
Long story, but a lot of people got pissed that they fired a previous manager, and now no one will give us a sub or a reserve.

Yeah, the company wants to shift focus from specialty store to retail juggernaut. The GameDay sale was an experiment, because it was the first real big retail event the company had done, by marking off new merchandise and advertising the sale in newspaper circulars. The likelihood is that GameStop will do more GameDay-like stuff and less specialty "Pre-order this for the love of God!" sales techniques.
It's still being tossed around by the higher-ups, but I think it would be a welcome change. Also, they're talking about customer service feedback reflecting maybe up to 30% in rankings.

There's a chance you may be fired for passing on this info Willco. They've been known to fire people for passing on GS secrets before.

How would they find out?

They read the forums you post at. This happened to Raoul:
I'm not even sure you could say I was "fired". I posted pissed off after the Madden release in 2003, saying a lot of negative shit about GS management after they had basically bungled the launch of the game. My boss, who I never really got along with (liked my old DM better) showed up at my store and showed me a print out of those posts and I was like, "so is this supposed to impress me? what the hell?" and he started saying a bunch of critical horseshit to me. I told him he was acting like a dickhead, and he said that I was fired. I told him no, I think I quit when I called you a dickhead, dickhead. Then I went home and got drunk and stoned, it was pretty awesome.

Wow. Well how the hell do they know who you are on a forum? That's nuts!
-
I don't give a fuck. They only pay me 5.85 and I'm a reserve and sub machine. Their loss.

Well.... Wilco's avatar is a picture of him :o

Cool, now I won't want to throat punch whatever pimply bitch is behind the cash register when I find myself buying a game.
No offense to you Willco.

About fucking time.
-
Willco better not lose his job over this, or I will never shop at GameStop again. YOU HEAR ME, JERKS?!
-
First, I doubt GameStop reads this forum and SECOND, they really only fire folks for NEGATIVELY trashing GameStop policies. I am saying this new one is good.
-
THEY ARE OUT THERE
-
Gamespot is weird about their policies, be careful about that. OA is dead and the internet is about to have a lot more evil bored people looking for something to ruin.
-
good, maybe i can actually get new games on release day without preordering for once. jesus.

OA is up

whew, then they wont be bored lol

This is the beginning of the end for Gamestop (and I guess EB). There is no way they can compete with the likes of Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Target, etc.
