Saw the trailer of this a long time ago and it really shocked me. One minute it seemed like another period piece about tough livin, the next minute women are losing their hair - the wrong way
-
A bunch of orphans just tried to suffocate a baby, and now they are being SEVERELY BEATEN!
This movie is like my best fantasies come to life!
-
I've heard that the ending is a real...
:o
Did that just happen!?
-
This movie is awesome. I am loving it! I was beginning to think th enoteworthy part of Tykwer's career was over. The soundtrack is kind of understated, but nic. . .OMG NAKED MURDERED CORPSE TITTIES!!! AND THERE IS SMELLING AND FONDLING! BONER ACADEMY!
-
I love movies where kids get beaten
-
AND NOW THE YOUNG ADULT MAIN CHARACTER IS GETTING BEATEN AGAIN BY THE PERSON THAT BOUGHT HIM AS A TEENAGE ORPHAN!
-
Damn, forgot about the movie, entirely.
I thought the trailer was pretty damn cool. What's the goriest thing in the movie? I don't like to see movies with too much painful stuff going on. :'(
-
I read the ending on wiki. Sweet.

Nothing too gory, really, most of the fish guts and dead animal stuff happens in quick cuts, establishing the chaotic atmosphere of the market place and the harsh conditions of the kid's birth. I am sure you can prolong the nastiness via pausing and slow mo (there was at least one pretty nasty evisceration scene, and gross maggots have turned up a few times). The nastiest shot is probably that poor, emaciated baby writhing around in the slime and fish guts.
There's also a throat cutting scene that's relatively bloody, but not horribly. A lot of the people in the movie are so far very dirty. On the corpse, the movie does a good job of capturing the creepy grey color skin takes on after death.

I also read the wiki summary
sounds like a winner

Dustin Hoffman is pretty awesome in this. Sometimes his accent slips, but you can tell he's into the role a lot.
Also, with the period hairpiece and loads of frenchie makeup on, combined with his old person leather skin, he kind of looks like a muppet.

"Perfume was one of Kurt Cobain's favorite books. He used the book as the basis for the Nirvana song Scentless Apprentice."

I saw this movie on a date. I absolutely loved it and plan to buy the DVD. My date? ...Not so much! :lol

You are a very good writer. I will read your blog and work on mine :-\
The internet makes my writing look far worse than it is. I've always been great at writing papers/research but the messageboard makes me lazy
-
yeah, tvc's blog is a really good read.
-
I already commented on two of the entries. :-*
Good stuff, TVC.

It's a great metaphor to the scary lengths creative types will go to, to fulfill their dreams/visions.
I need to read the novel the movie was based on.
