Title: PULP appreciation thread
Post by: Howard Alan Treesong on July 27, 2007, 08:51:13 PM
Common People, Disco 2000, This is Hardcore, F.E.E.L.I.N.G. C.A.L.L.E.D. L.O.V.E., Death II, Birds in Your Garden, Bad Cover Version, the hits are unstoppable.

Has there ever been a band better at sardonic ennui?

haha mostly it's cause I am putting together a really awesomely despondent mix CD and no song has ever captured the noisy desperation of involuntary celibacy like THIS IS HARDCORE

pulp in OJ is the only reason OJ is worth drinking

without pulp you might as well be drinking Sunny D

speaking of Clamato, you can buy Clamato pre-mixed with Bud Light at 7-11s in southern CA now. Called Chelada, it's being test marketed here. All the advertising is in Spanish. I think that's possibly the lowest class drink now sold in stores. You could not pay me enough to drink that.

EDIT: Maybe you could pay Saint C enough to drink it, though.

not to actually steer the convo back into the original thought, but I would like Pulp a lot more if they didn't remind me of some girl I used to know.

I actually shook my drunk ass on a riser in a LA club with the homegirl to some Pulp song so I have crazy mixed feelings.

Is Jarvis' new solo album any good?

I love Pulp, absolutely LOVE them. I've been a fan since 1995 or so, but I really fell in love while I was in Israel in 1998, listening to all of their albums over and over and over. In some perverse way, I always identified with Jarvis' outlook on life, especially the rejection from the girls he loved from afar.

At our wedding, we used album cover artwork in picture frames for the table numbers, and Different Class was used for the wedding party's table. It's now in our hutch on display.  :heart

I saw Jarvis when he came through Seattle earlier this year. I can't remember when Pulp was here in Seattle last, and I don't know if they or Jarvis will ever be back. I'm so glad that I was able to see him perform.
