I was watching Goodfellas on the teevee yesterday and couldn't believe how empty it felt. I suppose if you had never seen the movie before it would be decent for TV viewing, but it was just odd to me. That movie without the F word is like cookies n cream without the cookies.
Anyone else witnessed the FCC's damaging results on good (or bad) movies?

What I dont get is they edit movies but tv shows get away with worse most times lol.

Yea, I've noticed this too. They edit out "n*gger" on the sign in Die Hard: WAV when it's shown on FX, but Shane has said it on The Shield numerous times.

The Big Lebowski. Talk about frustrating.
I find it both sad and hilarious that THAT movie gets edited so much when it is full of neither explicit sex nor violence. Just language. Like bad language is going to HURT somebody.

I think the n word can be left on TV when it's used in certain ways. On BET it's always bleeped out during videos, but then I've heard it during some race movies like Mississippii Burning

Context is important.

I still don't get why they make it "I hate everybody" - it doesn't even make sense at that point.

Yeah. You'll hear it during The Color Purple but not Fiddy Cent, which is how it should be :maf

The Shield is on cable though, not one of the networks. So they dont have the restrictions that come with being on say NBC.
Anyways, the correct answer to the thread is: everything. Sure, some movies are more noticeable, like Goodfellas or Scarface, but language dubs are hardly the worst of the sins when movies are put on TV. They edit the hell out of them. Aside from foul language and violence, they also edit for "mature" content, and overall running time. Something that has a G rating, and no controversial content, may still be chopped to hell to fit a certain run-time w/commercial breaks. Finally, the worst offence is with respect to aspect ratios. I dont know how many glorious scope films I have seen butchered in 4:3 on television. Watching 2001 like that, instead of 2.20:1, is a goddamn travesty.
The only television station I trust for movies is TCM, as they dont edit movies, and run them in their OARs.

Do you have to swear so much, Dude? (The edited version I saw cut that ENTIRE exchange out)
It was worth it for "THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU FLY A STRANGER IN THE ALPS!"

:lol Usual Suspects is always a laugh
"Hand me the keys you fairy god mother!"
-
i've never seen that version of die hard personally but appearently there's a cut where he says yippee-ki-yay, mister falcon :-\

Kill Bill 1 and 2 are the worst offenders.
TNT be damned.
"party wagon"
hah

Yeah.
"My name is Buck, and I'm here to *voice completely changes* PARTY!" Not that the movie wasn't complete ass in the first place.

That's why I made a point of saying Die Hard: WAV is edited that way on FX, the same goddamn channel.

Fox Movie Channel doesn't cut movies and runs them in their OARs, I believe.

Oh, my bad, I must have missed that. No need to get hostile!
