LAIR BURN
-
Yay for ncaa football. Gotsta play as my buckeyes
-
Wow, Dynasty Warriors Gundam is better than Lair.
Really, jotaro, anyone that has played Lair and not been bound by NDA has said the game is shit. What did you expect?
-
You are just deluding yourselves.
Futami says Lair in the greatest game of all time.
And only the Sony Playstation 3® can deliver such groundbreaking visuals to the masses.
I believe Futami, has he ever lied to us before? I trust a legend.
-
Ouch for Blue Dragon... then again we all know EGM hates super traditional RPGs.
-
Jeanne D'Arc and Persona 3 are my big ones for the next month. Blue Dragon demo wasnt BAD per se, but if the story isnt any good im not sure how engaging the game will end up being. I mean there's some neat ideas in the mechanics but its just re-shuffling of older ideas.
-
The Blue Dragon demo didn't make me think it was AAA but the mediocre scores are kinda surprising. Blue Dragon seems to be very similar to Dragon Quest 8 except that DQ8 was uglier and more boring. I guess standards are higher for this gen. Lair would probably have gotten at least 8s last gen. Seriously, as overhyped as Lair is, it's probably not a worse game than the Factor 5 games for the Cube.
-
How could LAIR be even worse than RS?
oh yeah ground combat and waggle
DEVELOPERS, WAGGLE KILLS
-
Blue Dragon seems like a weak attempt to be a Shin Megami game

How do you come up with that?
-
Yeah i dont see the similarity.
-
I think you'd need half the bottle of scotch ive just had to see it
-
Gay.
-
not drinking is gay
-
lol Lair
-
not drinking is gay
suckle on my nozzle and drink my glorious liquid
-
I'm not surprised by Blue Dragon. The game is an ultra-traditional RPG with nice graphics that have technical issues.
-
omfg at p3 scores.
-
Jeanne d'arc, yay
Aside from that game, all the games reviewed seem totally average. God, publishers should really spread out their games beyond fucken fall releases
-
Persona 3 GOTM.
Mwahahahaha
-
lol Lair
-
Not that surprised about Lair and Gundam Musou, but I'm really shocked by Blue Dragon's scores.

I'm sure the text is along the lines of "this is nothing that we haven't played before." The game was underambitious.

Probably. I'm still buying it, though!
-
the blue dragon demo wasn't that great... i can see why it got those scores. all that matters in rpg land is P3. oh yes.
not surprised w/ lair. i never had faith it was going to be AAA.
-
I'll give BD the half year test: if people are still talking about it in 6 months, I know it's worthwhile. Otherwise, snore.
-
Yeah, the Japanese impressions for BD seemed extremely positive. Its just that EGM doesn't like super traditional RPGs, which means jack to me as those are the best kind. Innovation is overrated sometimes :P
-
I'm ignoring the lair scores.
Drakengard scored low too and it was one of my fav games last gen.
-
awesome rental.

bad taste confirmed
-
drakengard sucks
-
Abrader likes Genji on the PS3 too. But like he said, let's keep in mind that people like different stuff than you do. You might not understand it but some people derive pleasure from playing crap games.

they're not very similar at all. at all.
DQ8 is like dragon quest (duh) but with excellent graphics (for the PS2). BD is a lot like final fantasy V. it really feels like nothing so much as a 16-bit RPG put into the modern day.
I'm not surprised by Blue Dragon. The game is an ultra-traditional RPG with nice graphics that have technical issues.
ultra-traditional isn't bad. and having beaten it, i don't think the technical issues are major.

i'm still talking about it 6 months after i beat it. on the other hand, that's because it's just coming out here now and it's become a topic of conversation once again.
having said that, i think it's quite a solid and enjoyable game. i gave it an 8.5 (import) in OXM. i could see lower, but 6.5 seems low to me, personally. i don't shit on games for not being next-gen from a gameplay perspective. BD has the most flexible job system i've seen in an RPG as well, which has to count for something. the game more or less turns pathetically easy at the end thanks to that, but that's not (again) a major criticism in my mind. i enjoyed the ride, and certainly nothing else on 360 is reminiscent of it.
i also thought the story was charming, but one's mileage may vary there, no doubt. it was hardly original. but the execution was great (from a cinematic perspective) and the characters sold me the story. it's simply well-told.
what little i played of the US version had really mediocre text, though. that was like, the first town, though. i didn't have time to check out more.

Do all boss battles have cheesy hair metal music? I only fought the robot boss in the demo.
-
nope

no, as mentioned, just the boss battles, and not even all of those.
that demo was really odd -- it's from quite far into the game. i don't think it makes a particularly comprehensible demo, but i guess they wanted stronger characters with more abilities. shrug.
-
I'd agree with ferricide. It's a very charming little game, but you won't get much of a sense of that from the demo. You have to invest in the characters from the start. You can't just slice out a chapter of a good book and expect readers to be enthralled.
Also worth considering: The English version offers the added plus of harder modes I believe, which should make it less of a grind. (actually the J version has the harder modes now too I believe, but i'm not going to replay...60hrs or so was enough)

That's awesome. :lol
But did you spend a lot of time making that? Because I still haven't got my wallpapers, bro. :(

The play Magazine curse strikes again. They gave Lair a 9, and I think they gave BD a 8.5 or something like that.
-
Play likes EVERYTHING. They even gave Bullet Witch too high a score iirc, and I LIKE the game.

Nope. Yet another product of 4chan's Videogame forum.
