I keep trying to listen to them...it just isn't happening. Black Keys > White Stripes. I haven't heard Icky Thump (the album) though.

Auerbach's vocals lend a bit better to the bluesier sound of The Black Keys, but I don't think they approach The Stripes in terms of songwriting -- never mind that The Stripes dabble in a far more eclectic mix of genres and pull them off with a good sense of originality.

I put on White Blood Cells on the way to work on Friday and I had to turn it off by the second song.

You might want to try De Stijl; it has a sound more in line with The Black Keys.  Icky Thump (the album) sort of hearkens back to that, so you might want to give a spin or two also.

I've never even heard of that album from them...I'll check it out. I've been meaning to check out Icky Thump and I just haven't got the chance. One of my buddies went off about it on Friday, going on about how much he loves it, so I'll listen to it soon enough. He played a few riffs on his guitar from the album and they sounded cool enough. I'm just not a fan of Jack's voice.

Now now, play nice kids.  There's room for the awesomeness of BOTH the Stripes and Keys.

QFMFT

Both bands are awesome in there own way. When I want balls to the wall garage rock I turn to the Keys. When I want a melodic sludgehammer to the face I put on the Stripes
