Title: Let's get something straight (pun lol): Lil Wayne IS NOT the greatest alive
Post by: Phoenix Dark on July 31, 2007, 02:12:40 AM

Recently MTV declared Wayne to be the hottest rapper in the game, which I suppose is true. He definitely has the biggest following right now outside of maybe TI. Another thing I've noticed: everyone is so quick to declare him "the greatest rapper alive", the moniker he took from Jay. My question to you is simple: is Lil Wayne the greatest rapper alive?. I'm absolutely shocked that so many people I know actually believe this. Just because you put out a bunch of material doesn't make you #1. *SMH*

Wayne has one of the most simplistic rhyming styles I've ever heard. Yes he can be quite impressive at times, but overall he's the most overrated rapper in the game. You've got stans trying their hardest to declare THIS the most brilliant song of the year:

:lol qft

I will say this: while the south is ruining the game, I will admit TI can definitely rap. You've gotta listen closely, but his wordplay is rather old school. Wayne is above the Jeezys of the south, but c'mon: greatest rapper alive? No way

I like his lyrics, and his rhymes. They're better than most artists in the south (or in the mainstream period). it's not the best, but still enjoyable.

His lyrics are pretty simple, but his flow is definitely good. I'll give him that. And yeah, he's ahead of everyone in the south except TI and Bun B.

Too bad Andre fell the fuck off. Scarface is still king of the south.

What an original concept Mister Weezy. Drugs are bad. Keep up the great song writing!

eh, sorry for the bump, but I really didn't feel like making a new thread.

I never liked Wayne, but some reason lately I've been jamming out his shit a lot. He's good and has a decent flow, he's still slightly awkward for me, but it's still good. The beats are nice, but I must say Tha Carter 2 is better than Tha Carter 3, IMO.

You can actually tell in Mr Carter his voice drying out at the end, (actually probably from the codeine, it dries your throat out) I've had it happen on a couple songs I did.

It's just need to see a rapper just go through a beat w/ out slipping, it's pretty neat IMO. :lol

Just thought I'd get that out there. :P Oh, and I don't think he's the greatest. He's good, but not the greatest, we don't have a greatest right now, Nas is probably the closest.

On a different note, that Gorilla Zoe mixtape (I am Atlanta) is pretty damn good.

Imo Lil Wayne is okay when he's not rapping like an incomprehensible, distinguished mentally-challenged jackass (see: the majority of Tha Carter III). There are like 4 good songs, tops, on TC3, and he's by far not the best in the game. I would point everyone to Clipse, but after Clipse present... The Re-Up Gang, I can't. We'll just have to wait for 'Til the Casket Drops.

yeah, his pictures tend to be a little distinguished mentally-challenged no doubt. He needs to be a little less arrogant and a bit more modest. :P OR He could go completely left field and do some crazy rap version of Mr Bungle and use his space suit as his new look. :lol

I like Kanye since he got mainstream rap off the gangsta rap scenario.

I think this song is the exact point when Hip Hop died.

I think the reason why people like Lil Wayne is because they read Dr. Seuss as a kid.

Lyrically, he sucks.  He's all over the place and can't really tackle a serious topic without fucking it up.  I hate to sound like an elitist distinguished mentally-challenged fellow but shit, even in the 1980s and 1990s, rappers could handle serious topics and make tight tracks with them.  With stuff like Tupac, even though I never lived that kind of life, he created the atmosphere to where it felt like I was actually there.  There are many other artists that did the same but I'm just using him as an example.  These days, rappers, even the underground ones, are unable to do what so many hip hop artists have done in the past.  They might have some tight rhymes and interesting ideas but the more atmospheric hip hop seems to be dead and buried.  Rappers like Jeezy and Lil Wayne are making sure it lays cold in the ground.

Nas is pretty good.  I think he is a little inconsistent at times but he is solid.

However one guy alone can't save hip hop.

nas is the best rapper in the game today. i've been a fan since illmatic, and i'm still a fan now. yea, he's thrown a couple of "duds", but he's been consistently awesome. lyrically, he's just genius.

lil wayne is boring. he's got the same exact flow on every fucking song, on every fucking album. he's got nothing important to say, and when he does - it lasts for a bar, then he's back to his lolipop/showing off bullshit. i can't listen to a whole album and finish it. though there are a few songs he's written that are really good. i can see why he's popular, i really can. he's just not that good.

and nas, i hope he starts change in the rap game. hip hop is dead made rappers aware of the fact that hip hop is declining. nas has said many great and true things on that record. as far as distinguished black fellow goes, it made every rapper more political. nas is getting a bit typecasted nowadays, though. i see him guest spot on someone else's album, and he's always talking politically (which is good, though).

Hip Hop Is Dead has been out for almost two years now and hasn't changed anything.  I don't think rappers give a damn about the genre itself.  They just want to get their ringtone royalties and bail.  I've noticed a general increase in fly by night rappers who make a R&B track (now with vocoder) where you hear a lot of in a month and then never again.  I remember 50 Cent on an interview before Curtis, he said that an artist can make a lot of money just from ringtones and iTunes singles downloads before the album even comes out.  By that point, the album is meaningless.  Which probably explains why album sales for all music genres are so pathetic.

I appreciate that Nas is trying to make as many people aware of the situation as possible but I fear he is just preaching to the choir at this point.  The game has changed and I don't like it.

Lil Wayne admits Eminem is better then him. :lol or so it could be construed as.

Quote from: Allhiphop
Wayne reviewed that he had reached out to Eminem before Tha Carter III dropped in hopes of a joint song, but received no response from the Detroit native’s management.

Now 2 million record sales later, Wayne is more forceful and direct with his request to Slim Shady.

“I’m aight with the raps, it’s ok to get on a song. I’m calling you out!” Wayne quipped. “Come on out. I’m not calling you out to diss me because I can’t f*ck with you. But come do a song. Please…with three e’s.”

:lol It didn't deserve a new thread. :P

A few months ago he was claiming Em was scared to do a song with him. If Eminem could murder Jay-Z on his own track he can destroy Wayne on his own track. smh
