In this thread we sip scotch while discussing music, in particular which one-time great artists fell from grace the hardest. Perhaps your favorite artist has suffered this: after a couple great albums for some reason - money, lack of illegal drugs, religion - they start making horrible music. :'(
I'll start with some hip hop
Eminem
Em fell off hard. Before signing with Dr. Dre he was absolutely vicious; almost like Illmatic era AZ with bigger balls. His first two albums with Dre are good (especially Marshall Mathers LP) but since then he's been horrible. It's shocking when you listen: his entire flow is different now.

WTF MARSHAL?
SNOOP
I don't think anyone will post videos from an artists who's fallen off harder than this fool. Holy shit, maybe he didn't write Doggystyle afterall...

DJ Shadow. :'(

drop it like it's hot has an awesome beat :maf

I have to say that Rhythm and Gangsta is actually one of Snoop's best albums, and one of my favorite albums from 2004 (or was it 05?).
Talib Kweli and Mos Def.
-
pd, whatever happened with dre's new album?

Dre is a perfectionist and won't release it until it's...perfect. But honestly...I doubt it will come out anytime soon. And the thought of it featuring 50 Cent makes me even less interested in it.
If it doesn't come out next summer than damn, who cares

but eminem said on his last album on that last track that they were going make him do it. :(
i just wanted to hear some awesome beats.
Chili Peppers went from a a trite nuisance to the most annoying band of the forever.
no they didn't! :'(
their last was good album imo.

:lol
Only reason it got any hype was the anti Bush shit. Damn Eddie what happened
-
Hey now. It's not bad but not great either. It's decent.
-
All of Pearl Jam's albums rock. CajoleJuice is just trying to prove his portorican street cred.
-
Pearl Jam really fell off after Vitalogy, that was the beginning of their direction into a new sound. Ten stands as one of the greatest rock albums EVA!!! :punch :rock

I expect it to come out day-and-date with Chinese Democracy. :-\
Chili Peppers have blown since Mother's Milk. Well, Mother's Milk ain't that bad.
Cosigned. Blood Sugar Sex Magik was unimpeachably awesome, but the band seems to get more and more annoying with each subsequent release. :'(

Metallica, Black album forward.
And justice... was the last good album

Metallica, Black album forward.
And justice... was the last good album
you know it's sad but trueeeee....
-
Black Album is a good album. It's not metal, it's a classic hard rock album. Everything after that has sucked YES, but don't lump Black Album with LOAD
-
Black album is a total sellout record.
-
No its not omg. It's called growth. The album is merely a change of direction. You don't sell out with stuff like Wherever I May Roam, Sad But True, etc lol. Nothing Else Matters? Meh a rock band can grow. It's sad that fans expect artists to stay in the exact same lane for their entire career, as if they own stock in them or something. Metallica released 4 great metal albums, then played around with hard rock and changed the music scene. I can't knock em for that. :-\
That's not the definition of "selling out" to me
-
Black is a sellout album. Just because you have no taste in metal does not mean that Black is as credible as previous efforts; it just means that it is more accessible to schlubs. And Nothing Else Matters? What are you, a woman?
-
I'd call it a sellout record based on where they went after it and because of it, but I think it gets a bad wrap. Beyond the opener and One, And Justice For All is considerably worse. It goes to RUSH levels of boring, overblown complication and takes every thrash gimmick to yawn-filled excesses.
I can't imagine a different scenario moving away from AJFA that would result in an album as good as the black album without wholly retreading Ride the Lightning again. The big-picture problem with it is that they allowed it to be a sellout record by adopting that sound as their new permanent direction, creating from it Load and Reload and all that subsequent garbage.
-
Rolling Stones comes to mind, they haven't done anything decent in like 20 years.
-
One augured the end. You weeping manpussy, HARVESTER OF SORROWS, THE FRAYED ENDS OF SANITY, TO LIVE IS TO DIE :rock :rock :rock
...DYER'S EVE :gloomy

And Justice is pretty damn BADASS. Listening to that album made the Wizard of Oz more entertaining to watch.
-
:zzz :zzz :zzz
Metallica can suck a dolphin dick, anyway. Slayer :bow
-
I'M SORRY, DID SOMEONE QUEEF IN HERE
-
You're gonna call me a manpussy and hail Metallica over SLAYER?
HAUHAUHA
-
WHO OPENED THE CAN OF TUNA IN HERE
-
:lol
-
It's the approaching red-rocketed dolphins that you smell. :sp0rsk1
-
I like Slayer, but they're not great song writers. Even Metallica at their worse were able to construct basic shit

Hi.
Red Hot Chili Peppers kick ass.
Fuck you guys.

Slow Ride needs to be the master track and Wheezer needs to be removed, then I'll agree with you.

Speaking of Weezer, they sure as fuck fell off.

weezer definitely.
and rhcp still kicks ass. their sound may be a lot different, but i still like listening to them
-
this is a great thread. the fall of eminem upset me greatly. i'm still kinda in denial about it. he used to be the best without a doubt imo. now he's below average, with most of his re-up not even a good listen.
