Title: Why are passports so expensive?
Post by: drozmight on August 01, 2007, 11:02:29 PM
They should be free... maybe $10.

Yeah, they're expensive, but they last a long time before you have to renew 'em, at least.

Renew it... I guess you need one to go to Canada now because it's dangerous up there.

I intern in a congressman's office....phone rings off the hook with people trying to get congressional expedites.

Renew yours NOW. Like, even if you won't use it for two years. You'll need the time.

I'm looking to get my passport, how much is it, and how long should I expect to wait (in the US)?

I'm not sure on the cost...government says 8-12 weeks traditionally, we're looking at more than 4 months in some cases. I spoke with a woman who had applied in early March and had just received a letter a day before her trip that her passport was flagged and would not be processed...

how would they find out? It's not like they track what people do when they go. They dont care.

When I asked for bereavement pricing on plane tickets to my grandfather's funeral they requested to know the name of the funeral home, the number, and his name to check on it before giving me the tickets.

I guess that's understandable in a way, to verify something before they discount, but it's still really heartless. You'd think there would be a more tactful way of going about it.

Maybe if people didn't lie to get cheap tickets and faster passports, they wouldn't have to confirm.

this is the government we're talking about. pulling a fast one on them is as easy as spotting phoenix dark's homosexual tendencies. and no, they don't give a fuck if you're lying to them.

airlines on the other hand, well, they're greedy bastards to begin with anyway. oh wait
