... Albeit not in the field I want, but sometimes you take what you can get and use your spare/free time to pursue your real goals. It's just nice to think in a month or two, I'll be able to escape the label of dirty poor and not stress about really making ends meet.
-
Can you talk about it in more detail? What kind of work are we talking about, here? Anything's better than being a wage slave at a place like GameStop. I only worked there one Christmas season but I absolutely hated it.
-
Im buying a wooden indian soon
-
Um, ok, good job?
-
I haven't gotten out of bed today because last night I wrote 2 personal, really ugly things and I kind of don't want to turn on my desktop and reread them right now.

Taking that management position or did you find something else?

You were drunk last night and cybered with me :-\
Grats Willco. Lots of people don't seem to realize that there's nothing wrong with financing your dreams by getting a job you may not want. It'll pay off in a few years. I'm sure there are some that would say "LOL GAMESTOP" but Gamestop isn't the end goal.
Have you started school yet?
-
yeah, i am FLAT broke. lunch is gonna be caf or el cheapo this week. :'(

You think pasting a bunch of Neil Young lyrics to you is some sort of approximation of sex? What christian sect are you a part of, freaky deke?
-
I have my dream job, which is mostly great but sometimes sucky. I mean, whenever I'm feeling existential ennui it means I can't blame my malaise on the workplace. I know that my job is exactly what I want to do!
I guess that's why God made women.

I was hoping that you were so drunk last night you forgot everything and I could give you a new memory. OH WELL
-
I was buzzed, not drunk! I only had 3 or so beers; too mopey to drink excessively these days.
-
:-\
I will cheer you up. Come to my house
-
I'm about to make a(nother) placement at work, so I'm gonna be coming across a nice bonus.
Better comfort myself by buying a PS3, lol
-
next week I have to start job hunting :-\
-
anyway, congrats, willco! you must visit and drink with us sometime.
-
^ Word on both counts, albeit at the opposite end of the country for the latter.
-
Yeah, I'm in the process of getting my own store. Looks like I'll be installed at the new place before the end of the month, which means an all expenses paid trip to Vegas for the management conference.
-
be sure to get your dick sucked by the nastiest cheeseburger you can find!

That's like the fifth cry for help from you.
I'll say it: TVC, what's wrong?

It's on my Brett Ratner checklist of things to do before I die after I become a Hollywood hack.
I'm not sure whether or not I'll get an open invitation to go to Vegas or not. It's just depends on how things fall into place, but considering that after my phone interview that the SM was told immediately to find my replacement means the time line for my promotion has been accelerated, I guess.

It's all very obscure and tenebrous, and I could probably only make something resembling an self-uncensored stab at describing it while at least a bit inebriated. Without the saucy details, I'm getting older, and I'm not where I want to be, I'm not near where I want to be, and I have no idea how to move in the direction of where I want to be. I need to find myself some sort of. . .peripeteia. I'm sure there's a greek word for whatever I am feeling.
-
all I do is dirnkl
-
i'm always up for a chat, dude, if you wanna unload. :(
also, i had to look up "peripeteia" and that's a first for evilbore.

I've been reading back issues of The Paris Review, that's where that came from.
-
I've been reading back issues of The New Republic. :( :( :( Janet dumped 'em all in the bathroom -- I picked up a subscription when some fresh-faced black kid rolled around and delivered his I WANNA GO TO COLLEGE spiel -- and I've been poking through them for a couple weeks during fecal interludes. Beats EGM...barely!
-
I need to get out of bed. I left once to use the bathroom and feed the cat (those are uh, separate actions, for the record). I feel like Oblomov.
-
TVC is a whiny bitch. IM me, fagit.
-
Ignore demi. "Whiny" is when your car breaks down and you piss and moan on a web forum about it. IM me if you need anything, and sorry you're feelin' like shit, dude. :(
-
Janet? Awwww :-*
-
He feels like shit every other day of the week. Either talk to someone about it, or clam up. Either option works for me.
-
TVC :-\
You can always talk to me too. Have you eaten today?
-
Janet? Awwww :-*
I had an ex named Janet and all my friends used to tease me, they'd be like "awwwww Janet" since it was my first g/f and I had the hots for her (blonde + Polish :-*). This is the girl who later became lesbian and likes Xenosaga :P
-
Congrats Willco
and congrats Tiesto on the blonde Pole.
-
:( whiteman.
-
i'm always up for a chat, dude, if you wanna unload. :(
it sounds like you're kinda granting him two wishes, there.
TVC: STAY UP NUKKA! I'm thirty-four and I'm still on the interwebs talking shit! You'll be fine
-
it's true, you have many years to turn your life around before you turn into Corny

I met this guy this weekend who was talking about how he could never throw away his web design job to go work in the game industry cause "he's got an awesome thing going" and he was so proud of how awesome his life was and how he pitied us poor fools in the game industry who don't have it made like he does. He does web design work for AllState. Which I guess does a good job of paying the bills but OH MY GOD me and my industry cohorts were aghast at his brazen disdain for our jobs. He was fishing for some kind of gold star in unrocked-boat stability, I swear.
P.S. Corny I'm sorry you are awesome.
-
don't condescend me, motherfucka
-
I don't condescend until at least the third date
-
There's about a 100% chance that I'm going to be landing a $30,000 per year or so job in the coming weeks. The amount isn't all that high, but cost of living around here is dirt cheap. I'm pretty pumped.
-
Don't forget about the dream Wilco. Don't forget about the dream...
Oh, I'm not - if anything, this new situation will ease finances and free up more time. There's a high chance I will be working on a pilot in coming weeks and I'd like to wrap up the rough draft for my next screeenplay by year's end.
I mean, I didn't think I'd be with GameStop in this capacity, but in less than 90 days I've risen up the ladder rather quickly to a spot that is very comfortable. With the way bonuses have been restructured and the fact that they're quarterly, I could make a ton more money too.
-
Good luck! Stay hungry (like the wolf)!
-

Congrats, man. I will have two SM friends of mine give you a shout in Vegas. They're cool people. One of them just became SM last Monday, and they are paying his way there, so I'm sure they will let you go too.
-
That'd be neat. Again, I'm kind of surprised, since I've been with the company for less than 90 days. Word is I'll know where I'll be for sure by Tuesday, most likely. DM is still working on it and they're trying to place one other person in a store. I have on good standing that it'll likely be a location two to three miles away from my current place, versus the 40 minute commute to the store I work at for considerably less pay. I mean, this could always change, but the DM knows that the proximity to my residence is one of the main draws for me taking up this offer.
-
What's your yearly earnings gonna be like once you get the promotion? $35k a year?
-
More than that (but not like a LOT more). There's all this talk about how the bonuses being restructured and quarterly so that a store like the one I'm likely to inherit pulling in a bonus in the five figures range, but let's see how much real talk that is come post-Christmas.
I get a benefits boost and the DM has promised to be more flexible and lenient on my work hours for schooling/writing than another given that he wants to retain me pretty badly.
-
If you're making near $40k a year, that's pretty good, IMO. My cousin was an assistant manager and she made like $30k a year, though of course life in PR is not as expensive as life in California.
-
Wow, she must've been there for a bit or had some crazy prior experience to boost her initial rate - I couldn't imagine someone making that pay out of the gate with GameStop. ASMs don't make awful money, but they're very much slave wages.
Yeah, the cost of living here is a bit much, but I'm a single guy with limited responsibilities, so I don't have a ton of financial burdens... yet. I am glad something went right here, as I came about this close to pressing the reset button about a week ago.
-
wow, they must be desperate or you guys have good DM's cause the ones over here on the east coast are pretty much all brain dead morans or spawn of satan. good luck :-*
-

She was there for three years. The high pay was why they ended up looking for an excuse to fire her and replace her with someone they could pay cheaper wages to (and she was looking forward to getting promoted to manager, too). Now she works as an elementary school teacher so I guess it all worked out in the end.
