I have the gamecube version and it sucks. I herd goats, try to find a fishing pole, then am forced to catch a goat on my day off from goat herding. CRAP

Does that gay elf ever get a break?

nah

Only it's a better game than OOT! >:(

TP is really good and I loved the temple design. The wolf stuff was a little tiresome but it was forgivable.
-
u suk go home
-
The whole Wolf scenario sounds like one of the more gimmickiest things implimented in a standard series, EVER. Why does Zelda need to turn into a Wolf? WHY?
And I want to play this game too ;_;
-
I GOT CUBE VERSION ITS SUPERIOR!
-
the wii version is wagglecrap. cube version was the way aonuma intended it before he got saddled with another one of nintendo's "let's help yer momma play games, tew" shitheel gimmick ideas.
-
Though I'm hard on TP, I do really like it-- less so then immediately after I finished it, but it still is a 9.0 to 9.5 in my head. It has some really annoying problems introduced by the wiimote-- lack of camera control, and kind of mindless combat-- but the aiming is quite fun and the horse battles do become easier with the wiimote. Also, the MIDI music sucks...but I've said that many times.
I don't usually do side quests in Zelda games because the reward is usually useless rupees (and the same was even more true of Twilight Princess), so I didn't notice a lack or anything.
The only other thing I remember hating was the tears of light quests and some of the mid mission shit. Everything else was enjoyable.

Well, I guess, relatively. :-\

also, a 9.0-9.5 game? you crazy, mang! i really liked tp overall, but it's a 7.0-7.5 game, in the end. it's got some seriously f'ed up pacing.

Yeah, but the dungeons were just really satisfying to me, and it really was just what I was looking for at the time. I really want them to expand Zelda from just dungeon and metapuzzle to kind of like an overarching world puzzle. Kind of like how solving a puzzle will unlock something somewhere or give you some ability that will let you get somewhere else. If they're not going to do that, I'd rather they just abandon the traditional "okay you're in a dungeon now" conceit and just take after how Okami did it, which is a much less discrete blending. I appreciated that a lot.
It's definitely not a 7.5 to me...I had a lot of fun playing it. The boss battles were fun and I did finish the game in a week or two. The pacing is only seriously off, IMO, in the early game. The wolf shit between dungeons was nonsensical, but I felt that things were fine from there on out until Zant disintegrated. With the plot destroyed, the game felt far too, "Okay, let's wrap this up," for me. And they really, really did flub the end...the ending was unsatisfying and needlessly curt considering the "epic" nature of the game itself.
I'm not usually that easy to please. I felt a palpable sense of disappointment after Wind Waker and in some ways I'm still pretty miffed that Nintendo really refuses to take any steps forward with their major franchises. I remember when Nintendo used to innovate and risk the shit out of their games, like making Zelda II a totally different game than Zelda 1, or even putting Metroid II on the gameboy.
Now they are really so safe and protective; as good as Mario Galaxy looks (and it does look really good), people are lauding Nintendo for "getting back" to what made SM64 good instead of trailblazing something new. To be completely frank, though, I have seen only small fragments of that game so I won't be quick to judge it yet. The planet mechanic looks dangerous though, but E3 had some cool videos.
-
I really enjoyed both M64 and Sunshine, f haters

like in the Capcom Zelda titles? :D

a 7.5 for me is really good, flawed fun. a 9.0 means JESUS HOLY HELL THERE ISN'T A REAL COMPLAINT TO BE HAD.

This.
Most of the games I play are 8.0's (that is, what *I* score them. The press don't count. They'll give something a 6 than I would give an 8.0)
-
I agree pretty much with everything y2kev said. It's a 9.5-ish game for me.
In relation, here's my scores for every other Zelda game (that I'm sure no one cares about but read anyway you assholes):
Zelda I: 8.5
Zelda II: 7
Link to the Past: 8.5
Link's Awakening: 9
Ocarina of Time: 9
Oracle games: 9.5
Majora's Mask: 9.5 (seems absurd, but I just fucking love it's atmosphere and design–it just needed to be longer)
Wind Waker: 8
Four Swords Adventures: 7.5 (I had fun with this one)
Twilight Princess: 9.5
-

What do you rank the other Zeldas (Capcom ones included)?
Edit: TP was disappointing, but I still had fun overall. I'd give it an 8.5 or so. Course, I'm also relatively more tolerant than others, I think.

Zelda TP>>>>>>>>> .HACK (the whole series)
Waggle works fine in TP and widescreen makes the WII version the one to get. Easy to find component cables also give the edge to the WII. TP doesn't have any more flaws than most great games. TP's just under more scrutiny 'cause it's Zelda and it gets so many accolades. Every MGS game has tons more flaws and each one is still AAA. I give Drinky's review a rotten chicken tikka marsala served on cold rice.
-
no troll luck, sir; i wouldn't give any mgs game above a 7.0-7.5. i had more fun playing the two .hack GU games than i did twilight princess, though! the first half of twilight princess is a rare-style clusterfuck of artificial collecting, stupid mini-game sequences, and lousy scenario design.
-
i game oracle of seasons and ages a 9.0 collectively. minish cap i'd give a 7.5, wind waker i'd give a 7.5, oot master quest i'd give an 8.0, mm i'd give an 8.0, and links awakening i'd give an 8.5, lttp i'd give a 7.0, tp i'd give a 7.0, i'd give the original zelda a 5.0, and zelda 2 i'd give a 3.0.
most games i own are in the 6.0-8.0 range on a REAL scale not colored by hype, franchise bias, developer bias, or the simple inability to separate subjective appeal from good execution.
-
You fail LTTP is easily the best and awesomest. 9.5 confirm
-
lttp is stupidly easy, has a bland and poorly-structured set of overworlds (especially compared to pc games at the time, much less now), has too many once-off items, and an emphasis on the clumsy fighting over interesting puzzles. compare it to alundra for the psone, and lttp comes off as somewhat amateurish.
-
You'd give TP a lower score than WW? I thought the second half of TP would make it better than the first half of WW's? Plus, Arbiter's Grounds!
-
I hated alundra. The whole world was just baland and the puzzles were ultra gay. LTTP had alot of cool items. Like the wand that created blocks.
-
I kinda want to play TP just to semi-justify my Wii but everyone says the first 12 hours are suicidally awful
my tolerance for fetchy quests at this point is literally 0
-

I honestly can't even remember Arbiter's grounds. Temple in the Sky was more fun.
The only thing I remember about AG was that you actually had to go UNDER a falling spikey chandelier at one point and I was like how the fuck am i supposed to figure that out

I loved both, actually. My two favorite temples in the game.
-
arbiters grounds had the spinner (the most fun new zelda item in ages and a bit underused later in the game, sadly, the death sword miniboss, and OMG OMG TWILIT FOSSIL STALLORD. the poe hunting puzzles were clever, there was a great balance between lever-pulling, pseudo-platforming, and fighting, and the overall ambience was great. the hordes of mini-stalfos emerging from the dark were awesome; it's the sort of eerie spooky that a good dungeon should evoke.
i figured out to move under the chandelier by accident, actually.
-
foc, you gimp, alundra had a wand that did the same thing, only it used it for more than three puzzles in the game! alundra was actually difficult, had a great (and challenging overworld), and incorporated some good platforming -- lttp was too enmired in the early-era sins of the original zelda, resulting in a bland world and an emphasis on janky combat.
-
Alundra is hot, and it had an error sound that went
QUACK
QUACK
QUACK

Not the first 12 hours, more like the first 2 hours.
-
Oh and Alundra had shitty jumping puzzles. The thing felt like a platformer at times.

Word.

You should NEVER have to play through half a game of shit to get to the good stuff. For that reason WW wins by default
-
Arbiter's grounds is the best 3d zelda dungeon

Half the game isn't shit though, it just has down spots.

That one dungeon from Majora's Mask is still my favorite. I forgot the name of it.

You're talking about TP? 'cause 1/2 the game is exagerrating a little. I find that chore shit boring too but it didn't last that long. And it took me a while to figure how to fish w/the waggle. I will admit I almost nunchuked my tv after 30 mins of not catching fish. The game was fun though after that segment. It's really no different from watching some overly long cutscene in a JRPG before getting to the good stuff.

Just try it. I really do think peopel are laying it on a bit too think. Once you get to the Forest Temple, it's really not as bad as they're saying. The whole intro is pretty boring though.
-
My main problem with TP was that it tried way to hard to be like OoT. Some of the music was the same, the temples were named the same.
-
I actually don't think any dungeon was egregiously bad. The water temple was kinda pissy. Nintendo might never learn that manipulating the water level is no phun. I think that's 3. And 8 was a bit short and repetitive. But there was nothing OMGAHHHHH like the water temple in Ocarina, and a few dungeons were great.
-

What temples? Other than obvious "lol Forest temple," there was nothing similar to Ocarina of Time in terms of dungeon names.
But yeah, it is a lot like OoT. Once you get passed the third dungeon however, it becoems its own fucking monster. From dungeon 4 onwards, it's a fucking incredible game.

Meh, you had your Lake Hylia based water temple and such. Also the Temple of Time, though it technically wasn't a dungeon in OoT.
TP doesn't really "become its own game," and I mean this in a very limited sense as it kind of refines the entire way through, until dungeon 4 at the earliest. I think Snowpeak was pretty cool for a dungeon design, but I do laugh at one critic (can't remember) who said the whole motivation was so fucking stupid. Just tell the goddamn fat bitch to go find it herself.
-
Damn, everything from Arbiter's Grounds to the Sky Temple was so fucking great. Snowpeak was just such a cool design. And the way you got there. :bow
I wish Hyrule Castle had been just a tad more fleshed out. The outside of it was awesome. But I never got the feeling that the inside was used that much.
-
Sky Temple sucked. It's boss battle owned.

The whole thing was great, what are you talking about?
-
Interestingly enough, I actually liked the water temple in TP. It was the best out of the first 3 temples imo, which is strange considering I didn't care much for water levels in other games. I dunno, maybe part of it had to do with the atmosphere.
And the Sky Temple rocks. Had some interesting puzzles.
-
water temple in Tp owned and I hate Zelda water dungeons
-
i didn't mind the tp water temple EXCEPT for the boss fight, which featured the typically janky nintendo camera in full glory.

???
What was so janky about it? I don't remember having problems there with it.
-
fighting an underwater boss with the klunky swimming controls while swapping boots and finagling the crappy camera was a pain.
