The performance against Houston was an illusion. The most obvious reason is that the Texans are beyond awful (sorry MiG, it's true, it's true).
But even putting that aside, he didn't make plays the way you want your QB to be able to. He had one good play, the throw down the middle that almost got David Patten killed. Besides that, it was a dazzling array of WR screens, swing passes, RB screens, shovel passes, and checkdowns.
Without YAC, his 24 completions would have amounted to what, 65 yards? That's counting behind-the-line-of-scrimmage throws as zero, and not negative. What really worries me about those throws is that they didn't require any decision-making on his part. He takes his drop, throws to a single, pre-determined receiver without reading any coverages, going through his progression, or anticipating the rush.
I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think there was anything there to take him out of Dilferville, where the weak link QB tries not to screw it up for the team.
At least Coach Janky Spanky is back.

Total distance thrown: 38 yards
Total after catch: 223 yards
Brunell completed one pass over 7 yards. Oh well, maybe he's the new Rich Gannon, circa the Raiders. That'd be neat.
