I have two friends, both of them film grads with unique talents. I have no doubt that both will break it in the industry; one will be back in Hollywood's clutches within the month. They recently wrote a pilot for a dark comedy and as someone who has been critical of their writing in the past - it's a good concept. Although, I haven't seen a draft yet. One of them has fallen for some girl and apparently lost all sense of reality or work effort.
The goal was to pitch the pilot, as both have created a pretty good rolodex of television contacts and a legitimate support network for trying to launch this thing. Some folks are actively waiting for the final draft. Now with one of the partners meandering, the other has involuntarily pledged my writing support to finish it.
I don't know how to feel about it, because I'm sure the currently love stricken partner will fight any changes I make and throw a hissyfit if my draft is the one that gets sold. There was always an agreement between the two that they wanted me onboard if it got picked up or thrown out of a pitch meeting in disgust, but I don't think I was supposed to be part of the pilot.
I'm currently working on my own stuff, but I think this might be the quick injection of humor and creativity I need to really pull together some stuff on my end. And I do like working with one of the writing partners (not the one who is love stricken).

I'm not sure that'll help. I don't think the new girl will be his undoing, but rather that he is going down the slippery slope of Scientology. He kind of got out of it when he bolted from Hollywood, but they're dragging him back. When my two buddies paired up to write this thing, my other, non-love struck friend said that he had a ton of Scientology literature in his house and was in contact with a couple of low OT level lackeys a lot. I haven't asked about this girl, but I sure hope she's not a Scientologist.

or just get them together, have a focused discussion on what's up, where everybody wants things to be, and what each person should be doing, if there's slack to be picked up, you seem to be anxious to get it. If the stakes are as high as they seem (TV contract should be enough incentive to get anybody's arse in gear) it really shouldn't be a problem, right?
and if that doesn't work out, well...
