Title: Holy shit Death Proof is amazing (so far)

I'm watching Death Proof and wow, it's cool! It feels like the hundreds of cheesy horror movies I've seen before, yet it's better on every level. For the most part the writing is very natural in conversational tone, although there are a few QT forced bits here and there. Perhaps I'm most impressed with the film's atmosphere.

The joox version seems pretty damn grimey yet nice, but it's never a problem: even if the actual theater/DVD quality is better, it seems like this movie benefits from looking at stark as possible.

I just finished the part where he kills his first victim. OMG my mouth was open :o

He killed the chicks in OMG WTF fashion. When I saw that the black chick had her leg out the car I knew it was gonna get ripped off, and it did lol. One thing that made me confused: was he really slamming the car, then backing up, and slamming it again to kill them one by one? That scene was pretty damn confusing.

The scene rewound after it showed each victim so you could see the next.  he only hit them once.

It was so great seeing Micheal Biehn, and Jeff Fahey, and every other B-Lister (there were lots of them) in Grindhouse.  Teriffic casting there.

PD are you watching the short grindhouse version or the 2 hour full cut? I know the full cut had some limited release at festivals and stuff so it may have leaked online (it's on dvd in sept.)

Watching Grindhouse now...thanks for the heads-up about Joox!

This must be the theatrical cut...each movie is a little under an hour and a half.  Planet Terror was some okay fun, but I'm not really digging Death Proof as much as I thought I would.  Too much damn needless banter between the girls, not enough Kurt Russell.  Maybe it gets better at the end...back to it.  I loved the Machete movie trailer the best.

Japan is getting each movie separately starting next month, but I don't know if I'm going to go see them both or not.

Planet Terror was better than Death Proof.  The latter did get better at the end, but it was just not that satisfying overall.  I wouldn't be surprised if the extended cut is better though.  Plus the Joox rip is missing the stuff that happens during the credits.

How is DP not satisfying? It totally flipped horror/suspense movie conventions on their head.

Its probably still my favorite movie of 2007 after 8 months. I expect No Country and There Will Be Blood will knock it down a few pegs, but its still probably gonna crack my top 5 of the year when all is said and done.

Planet Terror gets worse everytime I see it. 

1st time = absoultely hilarious
2nd time = pretty good
3rd time = pretty meh

I watched it twice (well, I started watching it Friday night, got towards the end, and went to bed.  Saturday I rewatched it), and its critical flaw is that it does too good of  ajob emulating its targets, right down to it being a pretty ephemeral experience.  And I hate saying this about something like Planet Terror, but the whole gun leg thing was just distinguished mentally-challenged.
