another epic next-gen experience that could not be recreated on the wii. the art and sound direction blows me the fuck away. THIS IS WHAT GAMING'S FUTURE SHOULD BE LIKE, NOT WAGGLE MINI-GAMES.

The PC may not be as big of a slice of the gaming pie as it once was, but it's good to see that it is well on its way to winning the cultural victory over western gamers through games like Bioshock. Irrational really should just start focusing entirely on these sorts of games-much like SHODAN's ability to play god (from the logs of the body of the many!), they are just too good at it to be doing anything else.

I don't know if you can compare it to MP3.  So far we don't know SHIT about the game so I don't know what anybody's really excited about other than the atmosphere.  I personally didn't like the puzzles (hacking too easy and boring) and we don't know how much tactics there is in the final game's battles.  there seems to be a lot of scripted areas like near the end of the demo where the alarm rings AFTER you've definitely had a chance to hack as much as you could in the area and a bunch of splicers jump down directly into a huge puddle of water.  I know it only has medium and easy difficulty in the demo but it's too easy to take on half a dozen splicers in that area.

My only real complaint about the demo is that it didn't let you really see much of the game, but it was still the best demo they could make of the game.

even on medium it doesn't require more skill then oblivion.  controls are very simple.  what will make it feel next-gen is how the gameworld is which going through five rooms and shocking a few mutants CAN'T show you.

I know I have that ability but I'm saying the game had a demo that would not really make you MORE hyped for the game.  It's a good demo.  I said that too.  It's not perfect because guess what?  I think this is going to be one of the best games of the year and you can't show that with a demo.

SS2 got ragged on for its graphics back when it came out, too.  They never really bugged me, mainly because they were very clean looking, and the engine had really good lighting for its time.  Going back and playing games from those years, the lack of decent lighting kills games for me more than low poly models do.  A fairly clean graphical style also worked well for SS2 because of the environment the game took place in. 

I'd rather have a clean-looking game than a game that grasps for graphical effects that are clearly out of its reach, like say, how fucking ugly Halo 2 looks, and how quickly it's become dated looking, due to its terrible, terrible bump-mapping.  That makes it look muddy, dirty, and flawed.

TVC, have you tried the System Shock 2 mods?  How do they look?  I bought SS2 when it was released but I never got far because there were better looking PC games at that time.  Shame on me..  I know.   :( 

I'll go back someday, though.  Everyone who's played it tells me that it's an all time classic.

I played the demo and it's pretty nice, it was less of an RPG than I was expecting, pretty linear and still fairly combat-oriented. I'm hoping the full game features more puzzle solving and exploration. Graphics and setting are top-notch, though.

The Shock Texture Upgrade mod is worth installing. It does clean up some textures.

The "rebirth" remodeling/reskinning is something you can pass on IMO.

Games like Bioshock happen when experienced, good teams get the kind of money that they've always dreamed about. Bioshock must have like 2-3x the budget of any past Irrational titles.

Finally tried it a couple of hours ago.  Simply amazing.  I felt chills down my spine at the moment when Ryan stops talking and you see the splendor of Rapture for the first time.   I didn't expect the game to be so scary either.  The eeriness of the environment draws you in even as you are being scared.  The experience of the demo alone was magnificent. 

Sorry, am nintenho.  Your comments about Bioshock am retardo.  No true gamer could possibly be un-awed by that demo alone.

You could get your guy drunk too.  4x times the fun when you're playing a drunk character while being drunk. 

Yeah, noticed that in the demo... that was awesome, seems to wear off pretty quickly though, thankfully.
