Title: It's really sad how badly women are treated in other countries:(
Post by: Synbios459 on August 15, 2007, 05:12:15 AM
I was talking to a woman from Indonesia (which is very barbaric as I found out), and read some really disturbing things:

Apparently, she thinks that her husband can do whatever he wants to her and it's fine, and that it doesn't matter that he doesn't value or care about her opinions. She said some very disturbing things such as "He is my husband, I must obey him.", and "Usually I never decide upon a matter"

She also said that murder and rape is very high but he's not willing to move, apparently, to him, material possessions are more important than his wife.

She also stated when I asked what she would do if he had an affair:

Quote
[02:39] Fransiska: perhaps I will kill myself for not being able to be a good wife
[02:39] Josh: Are you serious?
[02:39] Fransiska: yes

And that's just the tip of it.

I mean, I knew Indonesia was pretty bad, but I had no idea it was that barbaric.

I actually felt really depressed after that. This is something I'd expect from a middle eastern country.

I met her on a mssg board for people from Asia. I've seen her around a lot, but only now have I talked to her.

It's probably best if you don't mention things like this.

And also, Indonesia is the most populous Muslim country in the world. It angers us when we look at it from an American perspective, but this woman's view of life isn't all that out of the ordinary for your average Indonesian female.

Why should I not mention that?

I think what really bothered me was the fact that she seemed like a really nice and intelligent person, but she is hindered by some religious freaks that believe in mythological beings:(

She and her husband are catholics BTW.

sounds like her mind is warped to shit forever.

distant, I think her problem comes from the extreme poverty in indonesia.  it's not likely to be religion because I'm an ex-muslim and I'm not at ALL exaggerating when I say men and women in the ME are all complete sluts.  they definitely don't seem to be abused to the point where they believe men and women have certain positions in life/marriage but it seems more likely that her problems come from the poverty in indonesia.

I only went the ME once but ask anybody that knows people from the ME and they'll probably tell you that it would seem unlikely that religion causes her to act like this.

now that synbios mentioned she's christian, I thought most indonesian christians moved to east timor?

If she's really Catholic, tell her she can't commit suicide because that would be a mortal sin and it would damn her soul to hell for eternity.

b-b-but cultural relativism.
Cultural relativism only goes so far. I can understand women not having the same status as they do in America but when it gets to the point where they're treated like dogs then it's all BS.

Funny fact: I sent her a link to the NOT SAFE FOR WORK NSFW girl thread on neogaf and she said "That's what American girls wear!?"

Oh, and beezy, it's the Asian board on gamefaqs, which I only occasionally visit.

It's never ok for a man to straight up beat down a defenseless woman. I'm sorry, but as a man that's perhaps the lowest thing you can do.

If she was intelligent she wouldn't let herself be treated that way.

It's kind of hard when these people are undergoing indoctrination of this bullshit as soon as they pop out of the womb. People can be brainwashed, and a lot of the times it's not their fault.

Isn't Himumu from Singapore?  He should talk to the woman.  Indonesia is really close to Singapore.  Himu probably had some Indonesian friends while growing up in Singapore.

actually his tag was "I'm from singapore" because I think gay or cigarillo was filtered to say that.

he's a black guy who grew up a sheltered life in houston suburbs according to mupepe (who knows him personally).
