Title: D&D Tactics: Without being able to look under the hood it seems a lot like LUCK
Post by: MrAngryFace on August 18, 2007, 06:17:00 PM
Well I made my sorc last night, recruited a bunch of different characters, and am currently stuck on the second mission fighting like 5 goblins. Basically the store sells crap, the drops suck, and my characters cant hit anything and are hit by almost everything. I'll give it a few more shots but at least icewind dale let you see what was going on. I mean they're freaking goblins, even the first area of icewind dale 1 and 2 you could wipe out like 20 goblins easily.

Insane difficulty at early levels? Yea, that sounds like D&D to me.

I remember having to redo the slums in Pool of Radiance 5 different times until I got my party right.

The best thing to do on the early levels is hire Sorc. NPC's and make sure they know magic missle. Then throw a few meat shields in the front and let the Sorcs blast away.

Sleep spells work well on goblins too.

Yeah early combat against superior numbers in D&D requires crowd control spells, which are generally way lower in spell level than the area damage spells that you would turn to later on.

this game is quite possibly the most comprehensive apprach to d&d combat ever written to disc, for good or ill.

Probably not QUITE as good as a patched ToEE, I wager! Still sounds really good.

I am torn between a PSP and DS for a birthday gift. Normally I don't like dem there konsole faggotry, but the allure of stuff like 1701 A.D. DS and EO or some of the stuff on the PSP like this is pretty compelling.

HALP ME PICK PROFESSOR, though keep in mind that I despise Nintendo with a amount of disdain I normally only grant to self-proclaimed born-again Christians. So if I buy a DS I wouldn't really be interested in any Nintendo software.

PSP it is then, provided that I don't waffle for a new set of USB flight rudder pedals instead in the meantime (my other gift option!).

demi-are you talking just SCUMMVM ( I generally despise older adventure games) or is there something like a dosbox (or similar) port out there?

It wouldn't be until the end of September, my birthday is not until the 29th of next month or so.

Geforce 9, a new LCD, and a zingy quad core round out the yearly PC upgrade next april or so. Already have it planned out.

You a smart gamer.  Let's get together for some UT3 action after your upgrades.  Fuk that weaksauce 30fps console crap.

But your almost-review summary of the game was lukewarm.   ???

I have an 8800GTS 640 now, we can do so right when the game comes out.

Fuck console gaming's weak framerates, shit controls, and crap lifespan of product-how dumb do you have to be to really think you'll see a tenth of the usermade content for UT3 on the PS3 or 360 that you'll see on the PC. Well, I know how dumb you have to be, and that is G-A-F dumb.

I think MAF is on the verge of some serious office barbarism, professor. I suggest getting the security people with the Taser ASAP.
