also, how hard is it to replace processors in laptops? i've only done discrete video cards in laptops (RAM and HDs don't count).

Looks good except for the CPU&GPU.  How's the fan noise?  I also read somewhere before that they were developing a way for labtop users to connect something like a 8800 GTX externally.  That'll be awesome if they ever get it to work.

What kind of labtop are you interest in, MAF?  I like those gigantic labtops w/20" monitors that are powerful but not very portable.

$1400?

Those specs are dangerously close to the rig I built for $1900, so I'd say it was a deal.

th' fuck is wrong with an 8600GS? sure, the 8600GT has twice the "stream processors" (lol unified shaders), and the grotesque superheat 7950 line is better for old-school DX8/9 shit, but for $1400? fuck yeah BEYOTCH!

noisewise, it's quiet as hell.

(seems it's easy to replace the T5250 with a T7300, so 2.16 GHz here i cum)

The only place he will beat me is GPU (I am going to have an 8400 with 28 megs of RAM).  But the MOBILE BROADBAND will more than make up for that.

the thing is that you can't upgrade GPUS yet, why not just get the fastest one available then.  you's got the money, playa.

That CPU is very  :-\

The video card isn't too bad though, and the rest is pretty top-notch.  But good god, the CPU is :-\

ha ha, that's true you'll look like a geek in public w/something like that.  but other geeks will admire you if they see it.  I would like something like that, not for web browsing at cafes but for games&movies at hotels if I had a traveling job.

Yeah, even though I don't consider it a mobile computer anymore, my 15" MBP was really too big to lug around.

yeah, but not significantly so. er, in my laptop, that is. dunno what the gpu is in the maftop, but it's most likely integrated.

My screen is also significantly smaller, so I don't need a big bad GPU to drive it.  I actually don't plan on gaming on the machine, but the thought of owning a PC without a real GPU makes me feel terrible.

You could still play something like Planescape on it.  I bet games like that would look really nice.
