No but my 360 is RROD'd

;________________________________________;

If my PC wasn't built from parts that now now can be considered "someones little sisters computer", I would be playing this on my PC.

Yup.  Sadly no LE.  And I got stuck with the PC version instead of 360 which was my 1st choice.  Looks like I'll have to borrow the 360 ver. later or buy it when a deal comes along.  I had decided that Bioshock would have been better experienced with a 46" 1080p tv +5.1 sound than ultra high framerates/resolution on a 24" monitor.  The choice was taken from me though.   :'(

Yup, got the LE today, cant wait to play it but I'm watching nova right now. Unfortunatly my big daddy's drill chpped at the end. :'(

On the flipside I'm gonna get a free artbook because of it :)

Been playing it on my PC, all maxed out, with DX10, and it is FUCKING GLORIOUS.  Runs without a hitch, too.  Runs very very nicely.  I'm going to play the first portion of the 360 game to see if I can spot the differences DX10 makes.

There are no AA options in game, so I have to force AA via my videocard.

The general consensus is that those Big Daddy models are fucken cheap. Pieces are breaking off easily.

I spot very little differences w/DX10,  at least on the demo yesterday.  Everything is a little sharper on the PC but it's also a bitch to get AA working.  I think Prole was right, the 360 version is good enough that most would have more fun playing it on their TVs instead of on their PCs.  Can you guys tell me what I'm missing out from the LE version for the PC?  The good thing is that at least the normal PC version has more attractive packaging than the 360's.  The glossy box that covers the dvd case is sweet.

Yeah I know, unfortunatly all too well.

If anyone else has a borked daddy belows a link for the free replacement + artbook. I wonder if they are going to want us to return the broken daddy.

I can't belive you lol'ed at Himu for his crap tv while you were still gaming on a SDTV w/ your 360.  Have you tried running Bioshock on both Vista and XP?  Actually, I notice that things do look a little bit better in DX10.  The drawback is that I can't turn AA on the 8800GTX in Vista.  Also, the game runs more smoothly on a fast computer if you set a higher value for MinDesiredFrameRate in default.ini, located in \BioShock\Builds\Release.  Aside from AA in Vista, my problem now is trying to get rumble to work on the 360 joypad.
Title: Re: R U BIOSHOCK'D TODAY?
Post by: TVC15 on August 21, 2007, 10:14:26 PM
I've been holding off on an HDTV for two reasons:

1) I plan on moving reasonably soon, and I already have enough big crap to lug.
2) I am waiting for 1080p sets to get cheaper.  Actually, they are a lot cheaper now.

1680x1050 is better than what Bioshock runs at on 360, anyway!
Title: Re: R U BIOSHOCK'D TODAY?
Post by: Smooth Groove on August 21, 2007, 10:16:49 PM
Upscaled 1080p on a 40" or bigger TV seems to be more enjoyable though than true 1680x1050 on a 20-22" monitor.  Btw, are you gaming w/ a 360 pad on the PC?  I still can't get rumble to work.  Can your 8800 GTS turn on AA in vista?
Title: Re: R U BIOSHOCK'D TODAY?
Post by: TVC15 on August 21, 2007, 10:27:35 PM
Well, 1080p is a higher resolution than what I'm running at, too.

And no, actually, I tried playing with settings, but I can't force AA. It's not a big deal or anything, it's just you're marveling at how perfect everything looks. . .except for that jaggy there.

You can force AA in XP.  It seems kinda quirky though since it just randomly turned on after a couple of tries.  It also makes no sense why the game switch the options when you go from keyboard to joypad.  It's pretty evident that the developer was aiming to please the console gamers first.

Forever-respawning enemies blow....what motivation is there for me to explore when it just means I'll just have to plow through more annoying zombie freaks?  The respawning isn't so much the problem as it is the fact that fighting the enemies isn't particularly fun, and ammo is somewhat limited.  So it's just frustrating to have to backtrack or revisit locations for new audio logs.

This seems like what id really wanted to accomplish with Doom 3, though.  Legitimate first-person survival horror.
Title: Re: R U BIOSHOCK'D TODAY?
Post by: y2kev on August 21, 2007, 11:36:32 PM
I definitely think the game has some "motivation" problems. I don't like respawning anything, and the health regeneration system is definitely disappointing to me.

It's annoying because the presentation is flawless. :|

Post by: border on August 21, 2007, 11:50:07 PM
The whole system of having to collect money/ADAM and then spend it at one of like 100 different types of vending machines is also kind of asinine, but the respawning is really the conceit that leaves me shrugging in disinterest.  It seems like they couldn't find a way to balance the limited resources with the unlimited enemy respawns, so they just threw in the instant resurrection machines so anyone could bumble their way through the game.

I mentioned Metroid because it was the last major FPS I played that featured OMG I JUST CLEARED THIS ROOM AND NOW ALL THE ENEMIES ARE BACK.  Of course in Metroid you had basically unlimited ammunition and useful evasive maneuvers, so even with the respawns backtracking and exploration wasn't nearly as costly as it is in Bioshock.  There are other similarities like the weapon/ability upgrades, tube-world-connected-by-elevators and puzzles like "Use the fire beam to melt the block of ice sitting in your way for no apparent reason".

Game is fuck awesome.  Play it on hard for real challenge.

I'm finding that I can't relate to people's complaints about the difficultly of the game since I'm playing it on hard and actively trying not to die. Conservation of supplies and proper tactics are rewarded in this game, at least on hard difficultly.

Yeah, it's much easier to just die and regen, but I have been trying not to die. I dunno why they made that decision to do those Vita Chambers.

I usually don't give a shit about difficulty complaints (too easy OR too hard), but there's been so much bitching about it that I'm tempted to just play on Hard.

You can power through the game since you still have the WRENCH and there are tonics that increase Wrench strength.

EVE and ammo are also not in short supply since there are vending machines at every corner.

I agree with their decision regarding the chambers. They wanted to ensure that people wouldn't have to keep reloading and getting frustrated in the more tricky parts of the game. Thankfully, they DID provide a harder difficultly level to play at for people that wanted challenge despite that design decision, so it's really not a big deal IMO.

There aren't even any tricky parts, just the Big Daddies, who are completely optional to do. Too hard? Move on, or save beforehand.

Not everyone is uber gamer extreme, though. They wanted to avoid people getting stuck in a CoD-style situation where they are put in a bad spot savewise and have to repeat a section umpteenth number of times to get through the segment. The chambers address that problem pretty seamlessly.

There are no consequences for dying period. You just get placed at a chamber with all your health packs and ammo (minus the stuff that you wasted before you croaked).

I'm playing on Medium and finding it to be about right. My money/stimpack/ammo cycle is fairly stable, and Big Daddies take some unloading and maybe a death or two to take down. I suck at FPSes, though.

As far as I know alot of reviewers default to easy so they can knock out games quickly.  This would be one where that would lead to a good number of complaints.

That is dumb.  They should play it the same way as most other players.  There are some games that have huge gaps in difficulty between easy and medium.  Such as MGS and Devil May cry.
