I bought the edition that has VII-IX for like 25.00 and I was so happy, but when I got home I cried because they look so dated and...
I want my money back
:(

Painful, painful graphics. I remember playing (and loving) VII and VIII when they came out (in like 1999 and 2000 respectively), and even then they were dated graphically.
IX is an abomination.
The Gothic games-yes, even G3 now that it's got big fanpatches-are a better old-school RPG choice IMO.

I always wanted to get into wRPGs but I have only played the console ones. I am so dissapointed with M&M because everyone told me they was great (even for today)...then I find out they are totally unplayable. Nostalgia is a bitch.
I really want to start playing the infinity engine games. They look so fun. Will Planescape work on XP? What about Arcanum (I know its not infinity but it looks cool)?

I had no trouble getting Planescape to work on XP, I bought a copy of the 4 disc set offa Ebay a long time ago... You should d/l the most recent patches though. IMO, Planescape is a good RPG to get into if you're coming from the console side of things... a lot of the old WRPGs can be extremely unforgiving, obtuse, and with annoying interfaces, but Infinity engine games are pretty easy to jump into IMO.

Planescape is totally overrated. Don't buy into the hype.

It's great but far from "OMG BEST EVER". Baldur's Gate 2 punches Morte in the jaw and poops down his disembodiened, non-existent throat.

Exactly.
