sony did "alright" w/ the PS2 and PSP.  not outselling 360 in july is hilarious.  good luck in august w/ the 360 price drop, sony.

PS3 is pathetic, but 360 is almost as bad--with its lower price and awesome software, it should be curbstomping the PS3, not barely squeaking into the lead. If 360 sales don't LEAP in August, then the future is HAHE WAGGLE WAGGLE. :(

The continued Wii sales confuse me, though. Do we have software sales? My gut feeling's that people buy the Wii as a WiiSports machine and then don't buy any games for it. I'm not sure if this theory has continued basis in reality, however.

well considering that wii sport is the top selling game for it (and it comes with the console)  and that the 2nd top selling game is wii play, that comes with the 2nd remote ....

ugh, the success of GH80s hurts me...right...here.

I wonder how Metroid will do? Actually, Mario is going to be the most interesting number, since it will sell 1:1 with actual gamers who own the Wii. Subtract Mario's numbers from the Wii's LTD hardware, and you can figure out exactly what percentage of those units are owned by alpha moms.

2 Wii games in the top 10, both first party. Nothing to see here, really.

People must be buying lots of replacement PS2s or a whole lot of people are pirating.  How can NCAA sell so many less copies on the PS2 when the userbase is 10 times bigger the 360's?

crap, looks like the majority of EA games will continue to be 60fps only on the 360.

userbase means people have to be using their ps2s.  many aren't anymore.

Why's it still selling so well then?  People are just buying PS2s to play "greatest hits" ?

most of the people buying now are going after the backlog of games for the PS2.

It apparently has very good numbers software wise.

It's just most of it is first party. Like DS. Shit like Mario Party and Wii Play pump out HUGE numbers.

I doubt WII play would sell that much if it wasn't bundled with a controller for $10 more.

How is another mini-game fest (MP8) in the top 10 3 months in a row WITHOUT a controller then? It's easily on its way to being the best selling of all those fucking mario party games. MP8 which came out at the end of may is like only 10k away from breaking 1 million in America alone.

Hell it will probably remain in the top 10 in august and September too.  :-\

my guess is that most of the people buying it buy it for their kids, for themselves but they're casual gamers at best, or as a second console so the software they is going to be tied to a system's abilities in terms of waggling and portability which will significantly affect the quality of games.

I think gaming has gotten to the point where people think this is my hardcore system and this is my casual system.

two years later, 360 gets a shit ton of games that make pretty much anybody interested.  shitty thing for the wii is I'm not sure developers will have enough imagination/budget this gen to make decent games on the platform in more then a few genres.

So, essentially, you've got one accessory (bundled with a game) and notoriously horrible party game (Mario Party 8) in the top 10 games for all the consoles. Obviously, amazing considering how much the Wii is selling over both next gen consoles.

I don't see the problem. Sony may be in deep shit at the moment, but 360 is still kicking. Even in the worst case scenario, you still have another 2 years at least with good support.

I better see a shitload of niche games and RPGs announced at TGS for the Wii or else I'll be pissed. The lack of niche games and RPGs is what soiled my opinions on N64 and the 'Cube (although I think the Cube was better in that regard...).

The Wii is so funny - I'll sell one at work and NOBODY buys any games for it.  Months afterwards, they'll put down something on like Mario Party or Wii Play, but that's it.  The only other Wii game I've seen sell a decent amount of copies was RE4.  Mario Strikers way underperformed at our store.  The only upcoming Wii game people are pre-ordering is Brawl.

Software top ten is guitar hero, wii party game, pokeymans and your yearly sport addiction. Nobody is buying the 'hardcore' games or whatever.  I wonder how RE4s numbers are compared to other similar titles on 360 and PS3 for the month.

These threads are why I've started to hate gaming.

The thought that people in their twenties and thirties carry on like the fanboys they were in Junior High School doesn't do much for my faith in humanity, much less my enjoyment of gaming.

You're all feggits as far as I'm concerned.

I don't see how this is surprising. The NPD numbers for this month are almost always the exact same games. NCAA dominates along with some movie game shit and maybe one or two other things sprinkled in. There aren't a lot of hardcore gamer games sold during the summer.

Anywho to offer a flip side to the Wii owners don't buy games thing. My family got a Wii for Christmas (relatives bought one for me but I'd already bought one so they gave it to my brothers) and in the first couple months of owning the Wii my family has purchased more Wii games than they bought PS2 games in the first year they had a PS2 (which they got at Christmas the launch year).

Re: 360 sales, I think its honestly people continuing to say that $300+ is too much for a video game console. Next gen doesn't start until we hit sub $300.

Kind of interesting that the PS3 has sold more units then the 360 did 10 months after their respective launches.

You would have thought the 360 would be a million ahead at that point.

Well, for as poorly as the PS3 sells in Japan, the 360 like...doesn't sell at all. So there's 800,000 or so of a buffer in Jappyaon, and it is actually outselling the 360 is Europe. Like, I don't know why, but it is.

It's not enough to catch it within the next year or so, and America is basically fucking them over.

If they meet, it's probably like 2009.

People always look at worldwide numbers but isn't it better to dominate a region instead of being in the middle in every region.  By better, I mean software support for the userbase in that region.  The Genesis had strong software support in the US even though the Snes had a bigger userbase worldwide.  The N64 still had pretty good support in the US despite getting killed worldwide by the PSX.  The GC had a bigger userbase worldwide than the Xbox for a very long time yet the Xbox continued to get better software support in the US.  So basically, even if PS3 manages to get in 2nd place in front of the 360, it might not mean that much in terms of more software support if it's way behind the WII in Japan and way behind the 360 in the US.

I think so. I mean, even though PS3 will outpace 360 worldwide (whether or not it is is not what I'm arguing, just say), Madden will never sell better on PS3. And for that reason, EA and other American-focused companies won't do shit.

It's also a matter of demographics, too.

But in general, yeah.
