I don't wanna be a tool of the patriarchy, but that one chick pretty much justifies "butterface" as a neologism.

So I half like the show and half don't like it. Mainly, I think the show is pretty trite (oooo, did you see how he showed up that dude with the cell phone in the movie theatre? Uh uh, he's setting a bad example for his daughter, and now he's paying the price. Wow, a writer that can't write), but I really like David Duchovny, and I can see him carrying the show for a bit at least. And hey, sometimes shows take time to find their footing.

Actually the second episode seems worse, a few minutes in.

Pretty much agree with the assessment.
On the plus side, there's Duchovny, production values, and boobs boobs boobs.
On the minus side, it's a really badly written TV show, and almost every scene was a cliche.
There's a slim chance that it could develop into something good if the show pulls a House, where they figure out a formula that works and Duchovny's character turns super-entertaining, but I doubt it will happen. The restaurant speech stereotyping his date was his big moment, and it fell flat.

Watched the second episode. Completely awful. Only way to save it would be via Rifftrax at this point.

I held my tongue after the first episode, but after the second, it is fairly clear that the show has a pretty significant Entourage influence.

The triteness didn't get any better the next episode. Fondling under the table! By... two women! He's working for a man he hates! Yeesh.
Duchovny's character is completely unlikeable, too. They're going for a House/Ari Gold thing where you root for the jackass because he's that much smarter or more dynamic than everyone else, but it's not working. He's just relentlessly bitter and mopey.
I have no idea why he wants to get back together with his ex-wife, either. She's booooooooring and kind of pointy.
I think I'm just going to buy some early seasons of the X-Files.
