I suspect the brainstorming for this feature went something like this.
"Wow, playing MMORPGS is apparently kind of addictive."
"MMORPGS?"
"You know, like World of Wacraft (1) and Everquest (2)"
"Ah..Can you think of three others?"
"MMORPGS? No."
"I mean games."
"I've played three other games, yes."
"Awesome, write a feature."

Not having some form of Civilization style game-Master of Magic or Master of Orion count too-on that list is criminal. What gamer hasn't stayed up way too late at least once in their lives playing a turn-based strategy games?

The MSNBC gamer

3-5 wold have made sense. 12 years ago.

Peggle is new. I agree on Doom tho. Back when it was. Honestly tho if they did their homework on massively popular games you would have seen two other Blizzard games on that list too lol.

Given that this is MSNBC, I'm surprised by the lack of Wii/DS non-games.

where the hell is diablo 2

Doom and Tetris are good sure, but addictive? Nah

What about counterstrike? never got into it but it was something that people were playing for years.

And still are. It's still the most played, isn't it?

I'm not sure since I don't know where they keep the stats of most played game. But it wouldn't surprise me at all if CS was still the most popular. When I tried a couple of games a year ago, the servers were still packed. I remember people complaining about the high spec requirements of CS:Source when it came out but most players should be fine now. CS has to be one of the most fraustrating experiences for a noob. I gave up after getting pwned about 1 min after each respawn.

There's probably more people on cs1.6.

I agree with Frag. Where are the turn-based strategy games? I lost two full weeks to Medieval: Total War. It was while I was unemployed after graduating college and I went from going to bed at 3 AM to going to bed at 10 AM.
