How about pasta and curry, Patel?  That's one of those funny Japanese concoctions that I like.

What does your wife feed you in return when you make that for her?

Pasta with boiled shrimp and pesto sauce or basil sauce.  Simple to make and doesn't take long to cook.

Or make some tacos.  Tacos, yeah!

I've done that combo with Indian Curry too.  It's not possible with Thai curry though because it's too watery.  Do you want Seafood?  Steamed crab legs taste great and they're easy to make.

Macaroni and cheese.  The real deal, not the Kraft thing.  Put it in an oven until the cheese turns all nice and crispy up top. :drool

soft tacos sound good. pesto pasta a close second.

sadly I just got an additional hour of work dropped on me so it looks like another work-til-9 day for Patel

Here's what I made tonight. I think you could probably whip it up in less than 30 minutes and let cook for a bit. Ingredients halved since I made enough for my wife and I for two days-you can half them again if you don't want leftovers but I strongly suggest you make it all since it tastes FUCK AWESOME the second day after sitting a day in the fridge and then reheated.

Beef and Barley Soup w/ Vegetables:

Ingredients:

- .70-.75 lb. stew beef or a .75 steak cut into chunks. The precut chunks are just easier and don't require any fuss, you can just toss them into the pot and be done with it.

- 1 medium onion, sliced but not chopped.
- 1 14oz can stewed tomatoes
- 3 cups beef broth
- 1 rib celery, halfed lengthwise and chopped.
- 2 carrots, sliced into thin rounds.
- 2/3 cup of any red wine you have lying around.
- 1/3 cup of whole pearl barley
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 4 oz. mushrooms ( 1/2 a carton, use precleaned to save time)
- a bay leaves, thyme if you like it
- salt and pepper to taste

Heat olive oil in soup pot over medium heat. Put in onion, carrots, mushrooms, and celery into the pot and let simmer for a six or seven minutes. Throw in beef and stir until beef is brown and vegetables are getting soft.

Add in wine, tomatoes (with liquid), bay leaf and beef broth. Heat until just boiling, add barley to soup, and then lower down temperature just enough to get a vigorous simmer. Let run for a good 35-45 minutes or until the barley is soft as you like it. Serve and enjoy-no real need for a side since you have the barley.

If that doesn't sound good I have a Cincinnati Chili recipe that's to die for that I've been eyeing that I can post.

that soup recipe looks like a good way to get rid of the red wine the EU office gifted me (I don't drink wine)
the world's MOST AMAZING whole foods ever opened up in Irvine yesterday, and the soup recipe seems like an excellent test case for their produce
don't bother with chili, my dad's recipe is a blue-ribbon winner and would kick your chili's ass

Summer squash, some chorizo and some tomatoes.  chop up all of them and cook for 35 minutes.  serve with a pinot.

I approve of this message. That's a REAL good combo.

Get a jar of Patak's Jalfrezi sauce, dump it into a pot, and throw in potatoes, carrots, peas, onions and some pre-cooked chicken and let it cook for 45 minutes or so. While that's cooking, make some jasmine rice in your rice cooker. When the Jalfrezi is done, serve it over the rice.

It's too late to cook if you get out at 9.  OC has so many options, why don't you just eat out tonight?  Get a steak at Ruth's Chris.  I love that place.

OC is huge.  Where are you?  I've gone over to that Japanse supermarket near South Coast Plaza a couple of times.  They've got a interesting food court.  The ramen stall is pretty good.  They probably close early though.  Royal kybher in the same area is overpriced but pretty good.  The persian restaurant next to it is not bad also.

That's Mitsuwa; they close at 8:00. Marukai (on Harbor) closes at 7:45. Which is random.

What's the best ramen place in the OC?  I've yet to find one that's as good as the stores in Little Tokyo.

FFS, Shinsengumi in Fountain Valley. get with the program.

SSG > every Ramen place I ever ate at in Japan, save two

Little Tokyo is also where Japafags go to die. Torrance and even Costa Mesa both have better Japanese communities. (and thus restaurants, stores, etc.)

Little Tokyo does have some good Sushi places though.  I think I've been to a Shinsengumi but it wasn't the one that you mentioned.  They serve Hakata Ramen, right?  People have told me that the one in Fountain Valley is much better than the other branches.

LT has some good sushi but I think that's just cause LA metrolites "know" to go to LT for good sushi. Other Japanese cuisines, shops, even grocery stores are all pretty dire.

Yeah, SSG is Hakata style. (a.k.a "best style")

Dude, when people from Japan visit me they ask to go to SSG. No shit.

Daidai Ramen from Tokyo, best ramen ever. Uses actual chunks of pork instead of thinly sliced cha-shu. The only way I can describe the thickness and richness of the broth is "like what a vampire must feel when he drinks blood"

I like miso ramen with corn and butter best.

That looks so good, Patel.   :drool  How much was a bowl?  I probably would have gotten two since Japanese portions are so small.

like 600-700y. I miss being single in Japan. the life of a not cooking person in Japan is so awesome.

my second favorite ramen was yakiniku ramen from a place called Daioh. it went like this

1) make yakiniku. only use thick cut rich onions, real marinated flank steak, fantastic fresh spices, this is not fucking yoshinoya.
2) instead of donburi put it into a bowl of awesome miso ramen with thick-cut egg noodles
3) die from deliciousness
