the day Valve officially announces a Wii title is the day we all die a little inside. :(
-
Gabe talks up the Wii like he's getting paid!
They can port the Xbox port of HL2...and make Episode 3 exclusive to wii! :O :O
-
It's probably just a collection of mini games with the gravity gun. Of course, you'll be controlling the gravity gun by waggling your wiimote.
-
what a waste :-\

<ubisoft>this is to just fund our bigger budget, better games!</ubisoft>
-
So. this is how gaming dies? I would have never envisioned.
-
Big Huge Games licenced and will provide support on their tech to the next Left Behind game.
nobody should be shocked about who they allay themselves with as long as there's money to be made.
-
That's a bit different.
So its okay to hook up with fundies, but making a game for a pared down system, that's worthy of real dissapointment.
-
they're licensing tech, not using their talent to design a game for a shit console.

There's nothing wrong with taking money from the fundies. BHG isn't some political motivated company and a customer is a customer.
Making a BHG-styled game for a shit platform with shit customers that only care about cereal box mascot titles and Zavix-style minigaming is dissapointing. Brian Reynolds is one of the smartest and best game designers ever, and anything that could be made on the Wii could be better realized and appreciated by more sophisticated audiences somewhere else.

If nerdy elitists on the internet don't kill gaming, then the Wii surely will! Rite guyz?

The Wii won't kill gaming, no one with a brain would go that far. Seeing brilliant people make products for it is just depressing, though-it's like trying to serve a well-crafted microbrew at a monster truck rally.
-
Maybe the brilliant people in question will push the boundaries of the Wii into something you leet fuckers can actually appreciate. I mean, anything with the name "Nintendo" on it already gets points off, but dare to dream...
-
Dissapointing for me is when The Creative Assembly makes a shite Dynasty Warriors clone, when Lucasarts cans their planned (and nearly done) graphic adventure games so they can better position their Star Wars crap, when one of the best 2D shooter teams ever (8ing) hasn't done one in many many years because those crap anime fighters are so damn lucrative, when SNK makes fewer 2D stuff because their staff is too busy on 3D versions of Metal Slug and KOF.
Is the Wii the best place for a game from BHG? Perhaps not, but I won't be fully dissapointed, and I might even be somewhat optimistic about it until I know what the hell it is. Bad ideas can happen on any platform, and I won't condemn anybody until all the facts are known.
The Wii is set to have a scarily huge marketshare, I don't believe for a moment that there won't be anybody willing to buy or make games that cater to more then a casual audience.

no, because a game of the sort brian reynolds is good at crafting -- ui intensive, stat heavy, and ridiculously complex -- is not something that would sell to ANY of the current wii set, hardcore ninthings included. fuck, bhg shouldn't be making games for consoles, period.
-
::)
i really think developers should really focus their efforts on making games that Professor Prole and any other rational adult that would refer to someone who enjoys Nintendo product as a "nthing" because i mean really, these guys are wasting their time as it stands.
-
anything to bring the RTS genre down is a good move
-
SC, imagine if Nintendo made an inferior cock-sucking machine. Now, all the pent-up, repressed business guys aren't frequenting the reststops and bathrooms that you hang out at, they are sitting at home with their Cockmaster 5000 on weekend nights.
That is what Nintendo is potentially doing. Making your hobby less enjoyable by servicing the populace with inferior blowjobs. Instead of the fine hand-crafted ones you pass out you take pleasure in giving.

PARSE FAILURE: (A)bort; (R)etry; (F)ail?

given that BHG has elevated it with the RON series and ROL, this isn't a good move. maybe you should be bitching about starcraft 1.5, weaksauce!

I will say that they sort of do need to be making console games-their art and audio talent is very, very good and I'd like to see have the budgets to do the kinds of things that a PC-only title wouldn't be able to. Their RPG with Ken Rolston is a good example of what they should be working on-if anything, the console Western RPG audience could use their precense , given that Bioware and Bethesda console efforts fall short in the areas where the Reynolds/BHG games shine (user interface, stats resulting in interesting strategies, overall complexity).
Anyway, you could make a game for the more sophisticated subset of the Wii audience. Why not just make a game for the PC/360/PS3 instead, where you get the more sophisticated, hardcore audience right from the start?
The only reason I can think they don't want to go that route is that they want to make the project smaller in budget and scope, in which case the downloadable services and a Steam release seem just as ideal as the Wii.
ToxicAdam is awesome :bow :bow

ToxicAdam wins the award for strangest analogy I've ever heard.
Prole, I can only hope that I will someday be as brilliant as you are, and that my thoughts that sounds so marvelous in my head can actually be conveyed in the proper manner.
-
But what if some company competing with Saint Cornelius finds a way to give a blow job using their nose, and it's cheaper but less satisfying, but all the unwashed go crazy over it? :hyper

what subset would that be? the hausfrau who have a couple bronte books next to the nora roberts decalogy? the ninthing that made a mii that looked like ira gershwin? you're talkin' fantasy, homes! the only thing that separates the current wii demographic from the chumps who bought the dancing coke cans over x-mas '02 is a pocketbook that's $250 lighter and a doorstop that's 3 pounds heavier.

you can start by selling your wii and buying a decent pc rig. you get all the flexible expressive controls you crave PLUS real brain training games. we will play civ 4 together: me as julius caesar and you as cleopatra and we will min-max our joint empires across the cyberscape :heartbeat :heartbeat :heartbeat

The subset that:
*) Owns a Wii
*) Plays a game on it every few months and is usually disappointed by it, save one game a year or so that is actually decent.
*) Spends the rest of the time on the 360/PS3/PC.
In which case, you can just make the game for the 360/PS3/PC and not have to deal with shit like a 3MB framebuffer and finnicky controls.
-
nobody owns a PC -and- a PS3 -and- a 360 owns a wii, except for tvc, and that's because he owns everything.

I own all those things too!
... :'(
-
yes, but you have as-yet unmedicated yellow fever
-
The crazy thing is: I don't even OWN a Wii. But I will get one, because I like wacky non-games and general faggotry.
I'll just say this. The other night I played DDR on the XBox with two cute females and it was more fun than any game I've played in some time. I don't know how much I'll like the Wii, how much time it will get from me... but it will be a hit whenever I have (girl) (non-gaming) friends over.
TASTE OF THAT, NERDLINGERS
Oh and speaking of yellow fever, one of these DDR playing ladies was a shrieking Asian young lady. Sometimes it's a damn shame that I only like the white gurls :'(

It was more a OR not an AND situation.
BTW, I've seen some nthings on GAF talk about how the PC and Wii are the perfect combination. how on earth can you go from "shamelessly sophisticated platform with rich internet functionality and high-end visuals" to "HEY PAPA I MADE A MII FROM THE GUY IN OVERALLS FROM HEE-HAW" is beyond me.
-
i got a fever
and the only prescription is
more yellow
Corny, I will drive to sandyeggo to take that shrieker off your hands

little. yellow. different.
