My dad's spanish, though, and he's really proud of the fact.

usually really badly adjusted people socially brag about it.
see foc.

Most Europeans laugh at us for clinging to our European heritage...

Yeah, my dad thinks it's funny how Puerto Ricans cling to their Spanish heritage seeing as how they haven't belonged to Spain for over a hundred years.
-
Puerto Ricans are proud because they have RICKY MARTIN! :-* :-* :-*

Hah same here. I'm Polish, Slovak, Lithuhanian, German, Hungarian, Austrian, whatever. And that's only my mom's side. I don't know about my birth father's.

Nobody wants to be just "American," it would seem.

I'm a mixture of hillbilly blood from various countries

I say that I'm American, but truthfully the area I'm from has its own kinda culture.

We do things differently here in the Valley. We speak differently, too. There's a whole section on the funny language.
I have a book written by a some local called "If You've Ever Gone Trick-or-Treating In A Bar, You're From The Valley!" I wish it were available online somewhere. Hell, I'd probably scan it and post it if it weren't copyright infringement.

IM TAKIN YER LAND!
I work with the Muckleshoot tribe... to them, I'm just another white man. :lol

My adoptive daddy is French and German, so my name is French even though, as far as I know, I am not.

If I had amnesia I would be an RPG character!

I work at Chinook Elementary, it's up on the hill, not very far from the casino. I drive by it every morning.

Wouldn't it be cooler to be an amnesiac who is fluent in every language and is an expert in espionage and combat?
-
I'm mutt. The only bit of heritage I've ever had interest in was the Cherokee. People sometimes think I'm Irish and I let them think that. It's easier than going into a long list of a mixed background and ending with "I don't fucking care."

actually I'm 1/2 norwegian, 1/4 english, 1/4 danish but I ussally omit the last two because of my norwegian pride!
(actually, actually thats only my mom's side as i don't know my fathers, and I have no blood relation with my grandpa which takes out all the norwegian :lol)

i'm only 1/4 irish (1/2 british, 1/4 scottish) but if people ever happen to ask me, a lot of the times i just say irish. apparently (according to my family) i look the "most" irish because i look like my grandmother. also probably because i have a lot of freckles.

I have some scottish background from my mom's side of the family - my maternal grandfather actually.
You know who has a lot of freckles? Anne Hathaway. They apparently put makeup over them for her movies, but I've seen her irl and she has tons of freckles.
-
yeah i usually try to cover mine a bit, :-[ but in the summer it's usually a lost cause since being in the sun causes them to really show up.
in the winter they pretty much disappear though.

Sometimes I see American movies where people areas like Boston or something say 'I'm Irish'. Why? No you're not, you're American. Most Australians came from Ireland too, but we don't go around saying it like we just got off the boat.
-
Yeah, I hear that people with freckles only tan in their freckles. Like solar cells. Weird!
-
why are people embarrassed of freckles? their cute as long as there no one hundred per square inch.
-
Most Australians came from Ireland too.
are you insinuating that the Irish are criminals? >:(
-
Lucy Liu has freckles too, but she always covers them up for movies.

a lot of americans with irish heritage are super proud of it for some reason, maybe because of the "struggle" their ancestors faced when they came to the US and all the shops had signs up that said "IRISH NEED NOT APPLY" or something, i dunno.
anyway if someone asks me my ancestry i say "irish." if someone asks me where i'm from i say "canada." if someone asks me my home i say "the US." if someone asks me where i live i say "switzerland." i'm all mixed up :-\

yeah that's me. my skin will burn and then turn white again but my freckles get 2x as dark.

My Irish great-granddad was a cop in Australia after being run out of Ireland for being Catholic >:(
-
Don't pay heed to Father_Mike. He was trying to make a stupid joke because "lol Australia was a prison colony lol." He's probably too dumb to realize how many people originally came to Australia due to political and/or religious persecution.

freckles are hot
Theres a girl in one of my classes who has that 'covered in freckles' deal and uNF I'd hump the cheetah spots right off her.
-
Freckles are...okay...but there's way too many ugly gingers out there, and they're the ones who tend to have 'em.

You like spots? (http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/b71/f22/b71f220a-afce-4107-976f-c802dec57beb)

Hey now!
I'm 1/2 Polish and 1/2 Italian

The thing that sucks about being adopted is not only do you not know what your ethnicity is, but you don't know if your family has any history of illness'. Heck, it could explain why I feel the way I do.
-
this thread is so stupid. mint you can do better than this.

I always thought the proud to be irish thing was just a "cool" thing more than anything else. You can say you're like the boondock saints, and your secret service is apparently ownage.... and on top of that you can drink everyone under the table

i'm 3/4 swede and 1/4 welsh. or as they say it in wales, i'm 1/4 fyllddyylllwyddlwyd.

I'm Native American (Comanche), German, and Norwegian.
Basically, I kick ass.

My Norwegian bloodline actually crosses with Erik The Red, which is cool. Too bad I don't get any money from this.

Random fact: One of my great grandfathers was supposedly half Irish.

Who cares about that? Aren't you still black? Answer the question with something like "I'm proud because of 12 inches".

TRUE STORY
Mum met her new husband's family for the first time and they were discussing his family's heritage. Mom is a bit of a ditz. They say they're ancestors were Welsh and Hungarian, so my mom sits a minute, thinks hard on a pc way of saying welsh hungarian american whitey, and then blurts out "So you're wel-hung?" Hilarity ensues.
-
100% Puerto Rican. Grandparents on both sides were born in Puerto Rico. My parents were born and raised in America though (me too).
I don't brag about it or put my heritage on some pedastal. Its good to remember where you bloodlines history lies but thats about it. I also use the fact that I'm Puerto Rican to surprise people...they'll pick up on my slight accent and I'll be like "Yep, I'm Puerto Rican" and they'll be like..."what the fuck, nicca please" and I'll be like "lol"
-

Culturally, would you say you're more American, or more Puerto Rican?

American, definitely. I can barley speak Spanish and I don't really associate with other Puerto Ricans other than my own family members.

Do you still have any relatives back in PR? Have you ever gone to the island for vacation or to visit a relative or something like that?
-

I have cousins over there (some that I've never met). My parents have been wanting to take me and my sister to PR so we both can RETURN TO DA MOTHA LAND together. My sister and parents have already gone though, I'm the only one that hasn't. I'm afraid some crazed native will hack me up with one of those machetes they hide under the engine hoods of their Toyotas.
-
Dude, e-mail me when you do decide to come visit the island. We must hang out, like Gay Boy and PD. :D
...btw, is your sister hot? ;)

For sure man, if it ever comes to fruitition. And I CANNOT SAY IF SHE IS OR ISN'T but I have to bat guys away from her like crazy.

What part of the island is your family from? I'm from San Juan so I rarely ever go to other parts of the island.
-
Don't remember the exact places but I remember the general areas on a map. My Grandmother on my mothers side hails from the South West most region, my Grandmother on my fathers side is from the North East most region.
-
North East? Maybe San Juan or Fajardo or Hato Rey or someplace like that.
