My theory: At the end, Master Chief will discover that he is actually stolen enemy (What're the bad guys again?) technology and that the war was instigated very much as a result of this theft. One of the game's final battles will be Master Chief versus himself in a warehouse full of clones, a po-mo nod at the success of the game's multiplayer component.

i hope he dies at the end. it'd be the best ending of the trilogy imo.

I don't think that makes sense since the first game begins with them not really realizing who the covenant are. I might be wrong though.
There's still supposed to be a lot of halo's left and you can't disable them unless you're close by so I assume the last mission may be an escort mission where you and the arbiter take the oracle to blow up a bunch of halos. or something.
it would not make sense for him to die.
unless he sacrifices himself. which one of the writers had the idea of so it wouldn't be surprising.

I'm betting he'll die at the end, or that you might get a peek at what's actually behind the helmet. I bet MC is black.

I think they showed him when he was a kid in the christmas CGI ad last year and he was white.

Master Chief is the byproduct of ONI's top level bioengineering genetic/cyborg programs. The MOLINJR armor has also been through MANY revisions and is, aside from the shield unit installed on the MKII suits, entirely earth born. If anything I am far more interested in whats up with Cortana. First off it was indicated in Fall of Reach that she knows Spartan 117's (Master Chief) past and for that reason is willing to protect him at the expense of herself. Add to that the fact that SMART AI only have a lifespan of 7 or so years and Cortana guessed that taking in and holding the stolen data from Halo, which changed her, may have even shortened that life span. So I expect to see some tear jerkin sacrifice!
Also I find it weird one of the Halo 3 maps has 117 tacked on after the end. AFAIK Reach was the only place that was home to Master Chief, so maybe its just a nod or something but I find it weird every time I see it.

The books have a story, im hoping Halo 3 capitalizes on the lore that now exists, but its kinda off on its own this with the avatar n crap.

The rumor that was going around is that the ending will closely mirror, the ending of marathon infinity. I could see it being true as the story could be neatly packaged and ended with it.

As long as Master Chief 'wins' I doubt he'll care.
