I rarely play online much because of it, few exceptions are BF2, and CSS. The main thing is that I get the feeling that I'll never be as good as those guys and get pwned.
-
daily life must be a struggle if you are afraid of being beaten at a videogame.
-
You probably won't be good as those people regardless if you play or not. If the multi is fun, then you play. Most of those "good" people play in clans and do private matches.
-
I suck at Halo 2, Resistance, and Warhawk, yet I continue to play all of them online. They're fun, I don't give a shit if I get "pwned."
-
I suck at most the games you mentioned, DM, and I also enjoy them. They're just games after all. The most I fun in gaming I had all year was playing the Halo 3 beta. I totally sucked but it was fun nonetheless.

i don't mind getting pwn'd, either. i'm just terribly antisocial when it comes to online games, which is odd, because i'm not terribly antisocial in person. something about how people behave anonymously and all the lies they spew really pisses me off.

I've only been good enough at like three games to really not suck at them. I enjoy playing online anyway-being middle of the pack is just fine, provided I have a good time in the process. Heck, even being last is ok, provided that I'm totally new at the game.
-
What kind of lies could people tell that would bother you? Even when I play online, I don't use voice chat because I've heard the stupid crap that people say when I watched my friends play on Xbox live.
-
i just hate posers and liars. the desperate neediness and desire for validation that comes with their cracking voices just makes me wanna strangle 'em.
-
I'm usually more interested in the team aspects of online gaming. While I'm not going to get 50 kills in a Wolfenstein map, you better bet I'm going to be the best medic/engineer/etc wherever I go. I like working together instead of going Rambo on people. This is hard to do when you've got 12 year old bastards running amok. :-\

So why not mute out voices and stop using a headset? If there's whiny bitches, that's what I do.

not me - the pwning makes you stronger

I stopped playing Mario Kart DS online because somehow my oppenents would end up having unlimited red shells/blue shells/whatever right off the starting line. Or they would somehow magically hover over the track for a while, disappear from sight, and then somehow end up in first place way ahead of you. Funny how that happens.

wtf? the main games I play online are rainbow 6 and cod4 beta and if anybody acts annoying they get kicked immediately or people tell them to shut up and they either shut up or in the rare case of a stupid host everybody mutes them but they usually get kicked. most of the time I play online there's somebody on my friends list playing what I want to play so I don't have to worry about joining random games that much.
most of the time I do see somebody get kicked in rainbow 6 is because they don't have a mic.
-
the few times i played online with anonymous people i've had to do it with mic off. people just can't control themselves when there's a female amongst them.
-
I always feel I can outplay the other person given time to learn the game, so no.
-
for the most part, i hate losing. but i'm not a sore loser. the way i see it, unless you're totally incompetent at gaming, anyone can reach elite status given the amount of time put into it. when i play online and get "pwned", i see it as -- the person probably has had more time to play the game than i have, so i don't take it personally. but it does make me a better player and quick to adapt.
-
online is where it is best. you'll learn the fastest... sure you'll lose at first, but if you want to be good at a game, you have to learn other people's moves, then improve on them with your own to surpass the majority online.
