Title: PC Gamer question
Post by: bluemax on September 13, 2007, 06:16:49 PM
So I finally got my new work computer and now that I'm all settled on it I had a performance question.

The box I have is a C2D E4400 2GHz with 2GB of Ram.

I also have on my desk a Mac Pro which is a Dual Core Xeon @ 2.6 Ghz with 1GB of ram.

The Mac Pro has a 7300GT in it, right now the HP has a 6600 GT but I am considering bringing my 7800 GS from home in to put in the HP box. If I did this would the HP box performance be better than the Mac Pro? Or is it not worth the effort of swapping video cards around?

If your quest is anything like mine, be prepared for confusion at the end. WTF, laptops with a GeForce Go 7950 GTX's smoke ones with GeForce 8600M GT's?!?!??!?!?

a 7950GTX for laptops is just a small-form factor, lower power-draw iteration of the original 7950GTX bigrig card. the 8600M GT -- note the "M" -- is NOT the same as a 8600GT PCI-X card -- the M is lower clocked and has 32 (16x2) instead of 48 (12x4) "stream processors" (read shading/transform units). (The 8600M GS has only 16 [8x2].)

Well fuck the 7800 GS doesn't fit in the shitty ass HP. So I guess I'm stuck with a 6600 GT :/

I wonder if Bioshock will still run better than on the Mac Pro.

Prof., You would be proud of the research I've done:

The cards at the top of the list are almost impossible to find.
