maf, the dot comes before the last quotation mark. so it's like: 'No Homo.'
yes, i'm anal like that, but capitals are terrible, though.
-
TBS is afraid of real talk.

Be fair and give it 200 hours before we have to ignore your complaints.

Real talk is pretty gay.

I miss the hotdog bar already. And I want REAL TALK to be limited to designated REAL TALK threads again so I can still occasionally fake talk if I please.

That's just the rule in the US. I heard the origin comes from America having shoddier printing presses than Britain back in the day, and for some reason the periods were liable to fall off the end if left to their own devices.
I really don't believe it, but it has a nice ring of truthiness.

According to the BBC style guide... (http://www.bbc.co.uk/branding/pdf/writing_style_guidelines_jan06.pdf)
Quotations
Use double quotation marks for dialogue and quoted material. Use single quotation marks for reported speech within a quotation or for emphasis. Punctuation at the end of a sentence comes inside the quotation marks if the quote is a full sentence.
• “I’ll be home later than I thought,” said Matt, “so don’t come till 8 o’clock.”
• “No.” explained Sue. “What I said was ‘Go if you want to.’ It was her own choice.”
• He was looking for a ‘light touch’.
I think the BBC's got MAF's back on this one, though I don't know how they feel generally about "real talk".
-
that's pretty awesome. i didn't even know they had such guidelines on the site.
i'm guessing cnn.com has something similar, too?

One of their examples was "he was looking for a 'light touch'. I'm sure they're down with the "real talk".

Can't find one. Apparently, the existence of a style guide is another difference between the English and the yanks.
Father_Mike: That quote also brings into question whether they endorse "no homo".

grammar can suck it. ask flannery o'connor.
The one thing I learned from American Lit was that all the best writers never obeyed the rules of language and writing.

With the exception of William Faulkner.

Like most internet forums, this place is a sausage party. "The Hot Dog Bar" was appropriate.
-
Real Talk is fucking awesome for a name.

I actually thought the hot dog bar was a play on the homoeroticism, which makes real talk not make sense.
