Holy crap it's terrible. Jason Lee playing 3DO. Fuckload of annoying star wars and comics references. I didnt remember it being that bad.
-
kevin smith - how the fuck did he ever make so many movies?

Make very cheap "indie" comedies that have a built in fanbase of 30 million = insane profits = more movies
Jersey Girl obviously is the one film that didn't fall under this (and Mallrats pre-Video Release)
-
kevin smith is terrible.
-
lol. I liked Mallrats.
-
Mallrats was a great movie to rent 10 years ago.
The "game show" ending was horrible, tho. Complete cliche, badly acted and looked like a high school set.

Okay, that was fucking bad.
-
I love mallrats but that gameshow thing is PAAAIIIINFUL.
-
Mallrats was the shit back in Junior High. I thought it was the funniest movie ever until I graduated high school.

now you've "graduated" to superbad
:-\

I still love Mallrats. It's one of the movies I can watch any time. I hate Kevin Smith's preachy movies.
-
Jason Lee playing 3DO.
He was playing a fucking Saturn, what kind of gamer are you?
-
I decided to turn this into a rank (lets not include jersey girl) kevin smith movies thread. Even if you hate all of them!
Mine would be:
1. Chasing Amy
2. Clerks
3. Clerks II
4. Dogma
5. Mallrats
6. Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back
-
mine would be
1. clerks
2. clerks 2
3. the first half of chasing amy
dogma is worse than jersey girl.

I thought it was a Sega Saturn!

My best friend and I watched Mallrats ALL THE TIME as little girls. Her older brothers liked it, so we thought it must have been cool. :) The older we got, the more of the movie we understood. I still lol at the "holy crap, there's a kid stuck in the escalator!" or whatever line, and I still can't see anything in Magic Eye.
Same thing happened with Spaceballs for us. It was seriously only like 3 years ago we watched it again and were like "OMG Prince VALIUM hahaha I GET IT NOW!"
-
lol, I like Spaceballs and Mallrats. I have a thing for shitty comedies.
EDIT: I mean, shitty comments that deal with geeky topics.
-
Mine goes
1. Dogma
2. Clerks 2
3. Mallrats
4. Jay and Silent Bob
5. Chasing Amy minus the shitty ending
-
Still not seen any of his movies.
-
All his movies suck. I just like Mallrats because of the kryptonite condom/Thing's rock penis jokes.

you dont even rank clerks?
-
The problem with K.S. is that he made too many fucking movies. Too many with the same themes, actors, settings and they always have clusterfuck endings.
If he would have stopped at Dogma .. I think he would've been looked upon with greater affection.
1. Clerks
(Giant gap)
2. Dogma
3. Mallrats
That's it. Jay/Bob was horrible. It was like all the deleted scenes from Mallrats packaged into a new movie. Chasing Amy was tedious. I don't get why people enjoy that movie (Aside from swooning over Joey Adams).
I think Dogma was the movie that really could have been great. It had a great concept, cool casting and the potential to really skewer American religion. But it was a series of skits woven together with Affleck mugging through each scene. It lacked any kind of teeth and fell back on KS's usual bag of comedy tricks.
-
I'm assuming you never saw Clerks 2 TA?
For me I'd rank them as:
Clerks 2
Clerks
Chasing Amy
Jay and Silent Bob
Dogma
-
I'm assuming you never saw Clerks 2 TA?
Yea .. nor have I seen Jersey Girl.
I just see no need to watch it. I feel like I have seen it already.
-
Perhaps, I went in with very measured expectations and it was my favorite comedy of last year. It was much better than it had any right to be, only held back by the pedestrian acting imo. But, that's the price you pay by being loyal to the original cast.
It's not groundbreaking though, even by Smith's standards. I'd say it's his most complete effort though, blending a touching subplot well with the over-the-top comedy. Rosario Dawson is fuck hot in it as well, and she acts circles around the amateurs.

How have you seen it already? Clerks II has very little in common with clerks. It has very little sitting around chatting pulp culture. It's more of a straight foward rom-com than Clerks was. And a lot of its comedy is something that would not work in Clerks. Such as the gigantic song and dance number.
-
Mallrats > Clerks 2 easily.
Outside of Rosario or Jay dancing, Clerks 2 rather sucked.

Mallrats ending makes Clerks II by default better.
Plus Randal > Brodie
-
lol Mallrats is horrible
You lack taste, or you're just young, either of which explains that.
Clerks II has heart.

I've never seen Jersey Girl and while I've seen Dogma in its entirety, I've never actually sat and watched it beginning to end.
I actually loved Clerks 2. I'm not sure if I like Mallrats more or not, but its hard to rank because Mallrats has sentimental value to me. :) I'm one of the few people who really enjoyed Chasing Amy, though.
